Best to worst: Opening credits

And Winsor Harmon.

Nice list.

Don't think they've changed AJ's shot since she got there, which was Jan 05.

I wonder if the people just request to have a new one or what. Tylo really needed a change after she let her hair grown back. But then I'm pretty sure they did one again since then, which is the current one, and IMO, it's worse. Actually, I just tried to go back and look and it appears they've changed her quite a few times. Lesli Kay doesn't look too different, maybe a little shorter hair, but not too drastic.

B&B is the best, hands down. It's stylized, current and visually stunning. I like Y&R's theme song, but the credits need updating. OLTL/DAYS tie for the worst. Very dated and lackluster.

Actually I think AMC has one of the best openings currently. It's the ONLY ABC soap opening that actually honors the show. It shows the photo album, OLTL, what does it have? Nothing, GH's doesn't even show the hospital

None of the others are that great IMO

How can ATWT's opening be anywhere but the bottom of anyone's list. They dont even have an opening! They have like what 3 seconds with the ATWT logo

Although not nearly as prominent as it used to be, OLTL's opening shows various buildings across Llanview which has been the theme of all the openings since the early 80s

Nice list.

They do tend to change HT's when she changes her hair. I think her current one is her best shot. The first one was with her horrible wig and looked a mess

Well, for the ABC soaps:

AMC's would be the best..... I'm happy they kept the photo album theme. I think it's more about the music at this point since the visuals are basically the same for all 3 shows -- and AMC wins for theme music, hands-down.

The OLTL and GH theme music is BAD..... but at least OLTL's isn't as headache-inducing/ear-bleeding as GH's.

So.....

AMC

OLTL

GH

I hate the way they remixed AMC's theme when they did the homogenized mix. The extra guitar riffs and sounds were NOT necessary.

OLTL and GH's themes are bloody awful. I think Snoop Dogg's Remix was a step up for OLTL. And GH's sounds like someone playing the saxophone on drugs. Not to mention the shot of the men at the end with that cartoony, sitcom tune as Geary gets up and walks away from the photoshoot, ever so annoyed.

You know, it's so funny but live, I remember that Susan Lucci moment being so much longer than it really was. My mom and I were like, "OHHH myyy GAHHHHHHD...." Did you see her face light up as she felt the warmth of that applause?? Y'all betta leave my girl alone. :P

Perhaps OLTL should have stuck with the fire/sun motif, played with the between heaven and hell thing a little more, I don't know. I liked how in the '90s blue opening there was that shot of The Sun on the news stand b/c it reinforced that OLTL has always (and especially at that point) done a lot revolving around newspapers and The Sun was a link to the old rising sun openings. Maybe I resist the sun concept a little b/c it puts the ball too much in Todd's (The Sun/The Son) court.

The tour of Llanview opening was so beloved and memorable that OLTL's "signature" in openings has become buildings/the sites in Llanview... except for the Gottlieb opening which would have been great for Loving. It even would have worked for a darker, more serious, HBO soft-core early '90s OLTL had they superimposed beauty shots of the characters over the billowing satin, sort of like '88-'89 Knots Landing.

The '90s blue opening (and very nice closing sequence) incorporated some grittier, more industrial shots to remind us that Llanview doesn't only belong to the Lords and Buchanans of the '80s, but also the Vegas of the '90s and the Woleks, Grays, et etera of the '70s. Visually, I liked it, and I grew t0 like the theme (especially those opening beats and when the music explodes on Dorian's face) but nothing can trump Peabo.

If I remember correctly, one of the Loving openings was almost exactly like Gottlieb's OLTL opening, only the Loving opening came a few years before, I believe.

Seeing the late 90s/early 00s AMC opening on SOAPnet yesterday only reaffirmed my love for it. [!@#$%^&*] all you hatas!

Ewww, if you're talking about the one with the white background, that opening was absolutely shitastic. Dull music, uninteresting photos, flat out boring. The one that preceded it was much better. LOVED that opening & the song. LOVED EVEN MORE how the music started playing during the scene before the opening, ala old school Y&R. Case in point:

That's not fair, you posted the crap version. The opening was so much better when they used video footage instead of still pictures and made the theme more upbeat.

They're still both crap. The previous opening rocked my socks!

Agreed. AMC's Falling Pictures and OLTL's Tour of Llanview are the greatest openings those shows have ever had. Period. :P I do love the explosion of pictures at the beginning of the latest AMC opening which is an idea I had in my head a few years before it debuted (if he doesn't say so himself). However, I envisioned it in black and white on the side of a country road by the Welcome to Pine Valley sign.

I really like the current version of AMC's opening and find it far superior to the rest of the shows that are on. And don't kill me for saying this but I absolutely LOVE the music in GL's current opening in a cheesy sort of way. Think "Laguna Beach" with the Osmonds as executive producers.
