The city responded that Trump and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel had previously spoken and agreed to ways the federal government could help. "Chicago murder rate is record setting - 4,331 shooting victims with 762 murders in 2016. If Mayor can't do it he must ask for Federal help!" Trump tweeted.
Members marceline
How much do you want to bet one of Trump's advisors talked them into this just so he could play them? Edited January 3, 2017 by marceline
Members DRW50
Kellyanne Conway being quoted defending them does make me wonder if she's playing both sides. These are some low-down, craven people - most Republicans are craven but many dress it up in moral superiority. It's going to be a system shock for them when Lee Atwater mutations begin to take up more and more of their ranks.
Members marceline
She is always playing both sides. A lot of people have only recently become aware of KaC but I've been following her since the Bush administration. She used to appear on a weekly PBS talk show called "To The Contrary" and you could see then the kind of souless pathological liar she would become. People are afraid of Trump but the real danger is Conway and Bannon. There's not a single working ethic between them.

Members ReddFoxx
The last time Republicans lost Congress, it was due to ethics issues and shutting down the ethics office makes it easier to cover up any impropriety that might cause problems in 2018.
Members DramatistDreamer
Politico claims that Trump tweets disapproval of the gutting of the ethics legislation because he used the word unfair but Trump shrugs at any aspect of life being unfair because he simply doesn't give a damn. This fits a certain pattern that when Bibi Netanyahu goes raving abroad, he's clearly got problems at home. Members marceline
Looks like the GOP backed down and pulled the plan. Frankly I doubt they had the votes. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/02/politics/office-of-congressional-ethics-oversight-of-ethics-committee-amendment/index.html
Members DRW50
And look how quickly the media is giving Trump the credit. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/cnn-manages-to-blow-the-house-ethics-story
Members DramatistDreamer
From what I've read Americans got on the phone and called their Congress-angry as hell! That not Trump, not changed things. Of course, that won't stop him from assuming the credit. Members Roman
That is exactly what happened. House Republicans' offices were SWAMPED with calls from all over the country and had no choice but to back off. and TRUMP didn't have a damn thing to do with it.
Members marceline
I hope it's the beginning of a trend and that we'll get more people paying attention to Congress and calling them out. Especially when they go after Obamacare.
Members Roman
I think what happen today will look like a picnic compared to how americans will react when they try to gut the ACA.....and I also believe today was a test run so they can gauge what will happen when they try that nonsense.
Members DRW50
A lot of people are very confused and misinformed about the ACA, and will likely believe the lies that a plan will be on the way.
