This conciliatory tone from some Democrats will only work if they are being ruthless in executing the Democrats' agenda behind the scenes and having a "it's nothing personal" attitude in public. Elections have consequences. The Republicans don't get to set the agenda after gaslighting the country for four years. Or, at least they shouldn't.

Seth Meyers does a fairly good job of crystallizing what has been going on within the last 24 hours, as well as a recap of the situation that we are all in, in this video.

Exactly.  I understand the needs for unity and compromise, but let's not forget who has control OR who put us in this precarious position.  Achieving unity doesn't mean letting the GOP still have its' way.

It is too bad that CNN wasn't this quick off the mark when Trump kicked off his campaign of lies in 2015.

That's a stretch to fact check Biden on. "You all said" is a fairly generic statement that really isn't meant to target specific reporters. Most people speak collectively when it comes to the media.

It's just part of business as usual for CNN. Jeff Zucker bragged about what Trump did for their ratings. Van Jones cried on air about Trump "becoming President" when he launched an airstrike against Syria. They need Republicans in power. They did anything they could to help Trump and the GOP. They won't stop.

There is a push from the media at large, who would have sold their children for 4 more years of Trump, to pat themselves on the back and make sure everyone focuses on how terrible Biden and the Democrats are, so that we will see they are "above the fray" and all the rest. This is just beginning.

LOL, fùck Shafer. When the GOP wins the Beltway loves to run gushing pieces about how the savvy Republicans are gonna go hogwild and celebrate for years. The Dems are more than welcome to celebrate.

From a friend who subscribes to Dems email lists.

Received an email from Biden on Jan. 20th in the afternoon.

A few key points in Biden's email (these are exact quotes):

  • A cry for survival comes from the planet itself. A cry that can't be any more desperate or any more clear.

  • and now a rise of political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat.

  • In another January, on New Year's Day in 1863, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. When he put pen to paper, the president said, and I quote, "if my name ever goes down into history, it'll be for this act, and my whole soul is in it.

  • "My whole soul is in it." Today, on this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation. And I ask every American to join me in this cause.

  • Uniting to fight the foes we face, anger, resentment and hatred, extremism, lawlessness, violence, disease, joblessness and hopelessness. With unity, we can do great things, important things.

------

When I read that .... I conclude this:

Biden's not saying unity with the racists and domestic terrorists.
Biden is saying unity against racism and domestic terrorism.

And also unity to save planet from climate change.
And unity to end poverty and despair.
