The spinning of health care protesters as "violent" and "dangerous" goes all out (with lots of help from the media, I imagine), with one particularly craven (and from what I've read in the past, incredibly stupid) Congressman even trying to bring up Gabby Giffords. Funny how none of them gave a damn about Gabby Giffords when Palin and friends put her in their "crosshairs."

Which is funny because during the health care town halls, Freedomworks sent out protesting kits directing protesters to be disruptive. That said, I'm glad for some of these people to feel a little fear of their own base for once.

Betsy bought that seat and any senators that didn't get in line were threatened with the Devos family funding a campaign for any potential primary challengers of said senators. Murkowski and Collins both come from states that are not ridiculously partisan.

Also, I've read that Alaska is too rural to benefit much from a voucher system, so her constituents probably weren't clamoring for it.

This development really makes me sad. I just feel like our country is in such a state of chaos and upheaval. I guess that's what some people wanted.

Today has been one of those days which reminds me of why I became an independent.  I truly hate partisan politics.

This morning I watched some of Maxine Waters on Democracy Now and it's great that she and her fellows are all in on fighting Donald Trump, but I am still dismayed by what little some of them have accomplished over the decades they've been in public office.  And it's sad that some of them have not done much to prepare the next generation for office.

Fight to get things for people but also work on putting together networks to help the people be a resource to themselves and others.

I've heard complaints about old textbooks being used in California public schools for years, but an old textbook is no reason for a child not to learn how to read. Some basic problems can be addressed and Betsy Devos is not an excuse either.

Then there's this post on Huffington in which H.A. Goodman blames Trump's elections on the Democrats "cheating" Bernie Sanders.  I don't agree with what the DNC did but there's no guarantee how Bernie Sanders would have fared--maybe he would have been a counter to the anti-woman voters.  It is all moot and the blame game does not fix anything.

The whole thing could be discouraging because it shines a light on how broken the Democrats are as a party, and coupled with the gerrymandering, makes the chances of them doing much mid-term weak.

Instead of being discouraging though, it's tiresome.  Republicans are pushing through harmful legislations while Trump creates chaos and the media keeps insisting that everyone stand at the roadside and watch the wreck.  Meanwhile the Democrats are watching the wreck and in this constant state of outrage during breaks from finger pointing.

And Fear Mongering 101 has taken an odd turn.  Rep. Sean Duffy went on CNN to defend the Muslim ban and basically shrugged off Dylan Roof and others because there's nothing that can be done about them.  But, in his eyes, the bright side is that Nikki Hayley took down the confederate flag.

ITA with Bette Midler about the damage caused by Prop. 13 but that's a state issue.

Unless there is some sort of quitclaim loophole then eventually it will die but there's probably nothing stopping it being killed in some other way.  California is special that way.

    • Wasn't it even framed as Monica wanting Jeff out of the way so she could be with Rick?
    • As you all know, my memories are sketchy, and at the time of this story, GH was probably at its most awful in its history.  I think Patsy Rahn was still playing Monica at this time, and her Monica was not written as a sympathetic character, so maybe that's why the viewers were able to forgive Steve, because it appears Steve was more interested in saving Jeff's life than Rick-infatuated Monica was.
    • If the shooter is Arnold, I am not going to be happy.

Agreed.  Again, I really like the pace of the mystery. RonC always wrote a shocking crime, then it would be solved only through exposition at the end.  I feel like the audience is being shown some respect by them carefully closing all the loopholes.  For example, having Shawn-D call Rafe to turn in his gun was a clever device to get Gabi to confess. As much as I agree with @carolineg about the odd shift in Sophia's character, this plot is starting to make me angry.  A woman is denied an abortion and forced to raise a child?  It is gross.  The stomach pains are a hopeful foreshadowing.  But, if she fakes pregnancy, or hides his miscarriage, I am going to scream!!! Roman continues to be a mench, but I have to admit that I can never keep track of the difference between Max and Benjy.  I guess it helps that Benjy is dead.  Is Max still related to Carly?
    • If Sally Field had been more generous about the writing I would say that her assessment is really very fair. I found Soapdish very funny. The cast is great. Delirious with John Candy and Mariel Hemingway (and Emma Samms!) came out the same year and I had expected to prefer Delirious, but Soapdish is one that I can watch repeatedly.
    • I love SOAPDISH but I think TOOTSIE is better. Generally I am quite fond of gender-benders. VICTOR, VICTORIA, most favorite.
    • On GL we only saw young GA's Philip in very short shorts but on AMC we saw GA's Alec McIntyre in a speedo.  But, on GL, an older GA/Philip is having sex with Olivia in a hotel room where Bruce Barry was directing & he & she both end up down to nothing but black underwear & at one point his bicep is covering her entire upper body so it appears that she is naked. I think they ended up on the floor between the bed & the wall. That was when I realized that Grant's body was better than Steve Burton's. (Olivia was cheating. Her husband Alan was in the hospital.) It is notable that I can speak with any insight AT ALL about these bodies since that is not the team I play for! LOL
    • I mentioned that last week and I am glad Tate and Sophia just realized that today lol.  I think the show is just tying up some of Ron's loose ends.   You would think Brady, Holly or even Marlena would have perhaps pointed out the age thing to Tate at some point. I am not sure I like this shift in Sophia's characterization though.  MK played Sophia as someone who always defied her mom's rules-she just didn't get caught.  She was openly trying to steal Tate from Holly with no shame, showing up at the Horton cabin in bikinis to seduce him, and blackmailing Holly to work all her shifts at the Bistro.  Once the recast started the show has acted like Sophia's lived in her room, sheltered her entire life lol.
    • I thought Dante was going to put hands on Gio
    • If Jordan never appeared again, I would absolutely not notice or miss her.  So, while Brook Kerr has her flaws, she at least appears to have a pulse and a personality as Portia.
    • That's because India, or the India MKA ended up playing, was created due to the fact that both she and Kristi Farrell were liked by TPTB, but the part they both read for didn't exactly fit either one of them so the show created two brand new characters for both actresses to play (India and Roxie) and opted not to cast the character they were intending to cast (A cousin of Beth's). I think that's why the show seemed to struggle at first with how to write both India and Roxie in their first months on the show because the characters weren't ever intended to exist.  And yes.. Grant A had a great body... but I didn't find him hot when he was playing Phillip.. only when he was playing Alec on AMC which baffles me since it was the same actor in both parts LOL
