Like I've said, the Bells have a vision for Y&R that goes beyond the traditional methods of broadcast in the USA...B&B was supposed to have episodes online, on the shows website, but Barbara Bloom got furious and threatened to sue etc etc...so the episodes are on CBS.

The Bells, ever the brilliant family, found a way to get their internet broadcast model up and running. Smart huh?

Colleen should go...but Brad is still very viable.

I really enjoyed today's episode. It has been a while since Bryton has impressed me, mainly because they haven't given him anything to do, but he was wonderful today! Very brotherly....and I should know since I have 4 brothers of my own. The storyline with Ana has been surprisingly good the last two weeks. They finally have me interested and not wanting to miss a scene about it.

I still want Jeffrey dead though...I HATE that character.

Yes, I agree.

But there was actually a masterpiece of a thing on this show that demonstrates just how far Y&R has come.

Everything between Amber and Daniel ADVANCED NO PLOT PURPOSE WHATSOEVER. There was not an IOTA of plot in their scenes.

The scenes had two functions: [A] To further develop Amber's character, and show the legitimacy of her grief for Kay...and the fundamental loneliness that has defined her since her B&B days, and To show the deepening and strengthening and sincerity of Amber and Daniel's love.

Imagine! Soap scenes RIGHT out of Tom Casiello's playbook!! Scenes that weren't filled with a throwaway "C" story, but with character advancement. I am impressed.

Ok - was I the only one today thinking "How in the heck did Bryton ever win an Emmy, let alone two!?" Gosh his acting is so wooden and unconvincing. Everything he says is delivered with this forced indignation. But compare him to Eva Pigford (Tyra) and he looks like..well an Emmy winner. Apprently those weeks the show wrote her off (allegedly to get an acting coach!) didn't work out so well. i like the character of Tyra, but she's acting as if someone got her pizza order wrong, not had her daughter taken by social services.

They better hire a firece, seasoned actress for Yolonda!!!

She just didn't pop for me. I want someone who wasn't a model or beginning her career. No disrespect to Chene, who was talented and lovely in the role, but I'm just thirstin for a big, black diva (think Dianne Carrol in her prime) to take over the role. And with another looming strike and the economy in the tank, I think Y&R could lure someone fab. If we can't have Dru i want someone feisty!

Been watching Y&R pretty much all my life, I'm almost 30. My mother has watched the entire show and filled me in on Katherine's history. I love grey characters, my problem is that it is always written like Katherine was a wonderful and decent woman and all her sins are erased because she's old and rich. It would be funny if Amber published her book, in which she admitted to kidnapping, and as soon as she is found Heather can prosecute her for it.

    • National City Star-News, 5 May 1977 TV topics by Peter Blazi Lear’s ‘All that Glitters’—doesn’t The best thing that can be said about Norman Lear’s newest soap opera“All That Glitters” is that it comes on so late at night most people will miss it. Role reversal is supposed to be the big draw, with women the breadwinners, mainly executives of a huge conglomerate. The men either fuss with the housework or fidget at the office as secretaries to their bawdy bosses. A female fantasyland? I doubt it. While the role reversal idea has some possibilities, the show pushes too hard for laughs and winds up with raucous females and effete males. A confident, independent woman is indeed a sight to behold and attract, but femininity need not be sacrificed. Unlike Lear’s “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” "Glitters” doesn’t, but you’ve got to give him credit for trying. Today’s experimental comedy is what tomorrow’s hits are made of. Better luck next time, Norman. (“All That Glitters” can be seen weekday evenings at 11 p.m. on Channel 6.) .
    • Actually Kim Zimmer got six weeks off to test the waters for pilot season in L.A. - she said later she went on many auditions and got one offer for a sitcom, but she would one of many in an ensemble. She turned it down, because it wasn't worth leaving Guiding Light for a supporting role on a sitcom.
    • I'm not even sure why Zoe would care, even if they know each other offcamera.  I can't see Jean going, but if she is - good riddance at this point.
    • I just found the commercial on YouTube, with several other GL'ers doing the same commercial - how fun!

She did the same for me once Ghost Reva arrived (the anxiety and paranoia) - which is when the storyline for Rick/Annie started, with their Chicago past and her alcoholism. But before all that, when she was new and tending to Josh's broken leg, she was just normal, sweet and very cute/flirty.
    • I have to admit Annie exhausted me somewhat before she went nuts. So much anxiety. She and Robert were OK I guess. Didn't ever stick out much one way or the other.
    • I meant to ask in the May thread, but hey...it's not like it won't come up...   ...has our opinions of Jessica changed at this point? I know we debated at one point if she was sincere in her feelings for Ty or if she was in on his bullying. Now that a little more time has passed, what do we think?
    • Which is why I said...and continue to say mind you...that the designer is still trying to figure out what works for which character...highlight my points with particular characters. And as I also agree with you, too many misses. She has not found a clear, firm rhythm for me. Yet.   I also agree that BTG does a much better job. But I'll give credit where it's due.
    • I watch many episodes from the Vault, a secret source here on SON, because the quality is much better than YouTube. But, it has commercials that I have to skip through, although even these commercials give me serious nostalgia vibes. All that said, there is a consistent 1996 commercial for Excedrin with Frank Beatty!  He talks right into the camera about his feelings, and it's like Brent Lawrence never left. I wonder if GL fans back in the day ever saw this and had feelings about it.
    • Dukes of Hazzard had a good run when it moved to 8pm but even when that was failing ABC and NBC couldn't come up with a hit show to dominate  that timeslot. NBC sent The A Team, Knight Rider and Riptide there for their final seasons and CBS did the same with Scarecrow & Mrs King. Otherwise it was a barrage of new shows that never worked.
    • Agree. Much more miss than hit. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I thought clothing was supposed to be flattering. A lot of the Y&R women are seen in the tight solid color dresses ,often with cutouts/one shoulder. Now that may be a fashion but to have all of them in interchangeable dresses... Do the characters have a particular color pallette/style that is unique to them? BTG does a better job in that department. Some recent Y&R looks. I actually like the dress but we see that style too often.   Nikki's new look is not to my liking.
