It was very dark, Toups!

Ted Shackleford was good too, and Chapman was quite effective as well. Eden was well....Eden.

Oh and they need to keep Daniel Goddard with actors like Walton, Cooper, and Bergman, because he's SO much better opposite great talents, and I totally buy him as a CEO.

I concur. Very good music. About two of the music pieces were regularly used in early 00's. The one involving Adam solo was frequently used in scenes involving Michael Baldwin's duplicity, hiding of information or talks by other characters about Baldwin. Think it became the unofficial 'Baldwin' score in my mind.

Speaking of Michael, the other score used involved the scene with him (I'm being vague, as I don't know how to use spoiler tags, ) showing glimpses of the 'old' Baldwin. It was one of their grandest pieces and we actually only got about half of it. I actually builds to something really big, but the shorter scenes meant we were not going to get the full version. Again, consult early 00's episodes for infrequent use.

And all these darker, older scores (and a darker feel to the episode) in Mike Denney's first episode back as director.

This was the piece that stuck out for me.

Which scene was this again? To use spoiler tags, highlight the spoiler, then click on the drop down menu where it says "Insert Special Item" and then choose "Insert: Spoiler"

. That music adds to the scene. I can recall a scene from 2003 where Jack goes to Victor's office just after the Safra and Tuvia sales figures have come out and Jack acuses Victor of doing something illegal. That was used.

Also, during Gala night as Brad was freaking out about Colleen in the restaurant, the score was used to heighten the scene. It was the scene where Kevin's name comes into things and Brad demands to see him. I think you can find the Fire/Aftermath scenes scenes online. Type 'Kevin Traps Colleen' into YouTube and there you go.

I wonder how much of the music used is down to the director, and how much is down to the EP and music director. I noticed a lot of either older scores or newer scores heavily influenced by past scores used last Friday in Andrew Lee's episode. Music was never used like that in any of his other episodes, which makes me think its down to Rauch/Bell who implemented that technique.

Mike Denney did choose a good episode to come back with though. A lot of variety in terms of cast, sets used, and character interaction. And the show was directed in more of a classic style, which LML did away with. He must be so happy that she isn't there anymore, it's so evident how much he hated her.

Now, it's time for Kathryn Foster to be rehired, if she isn't already. :)

Jack Smith said that his main role, in the days prior to departure, was smoothing out friction between "production" and "writing"...something to that effect.

I assume, now in retrospect, that he meant the directors, and maybe Ed Scott.

But, at risk of pillorying, I hope they don't wipe out all of LML's innovations. For example, I really miss that Newman Enterprises hallway, or all those elevator scenes.

This episode was...classic...heaven.

There was a PARTY scene...granted it was a small party...but a PARTY non the less! When was the last time Peter Bergman and Jess Walton enjoyed an extended scene together? It's delightful to see the Abbotts coming back together. The rivalry between Cain and Billy is going to be good! The big dinner scene was wonderful, Katherine's tale of Cain and Abel was a great foreshadow. Kay's dementia (which I hope is what I think it is) is very disturbing.

Gloria, for the first time in like, ever, did a selfless good deed. For the time being, she's redeemed herself. I'm surprised.

Michael confronting Jeffrey was pretty damn good, the music in that scene was particularly effective. The CREAM is back, hallelujah!

I adore Nikki the haughty society bitch with the Ivana Trump hair. And I can't believe I'm saying it, but for the first time, I accept Amelia Heinle as Victoria. I don't know how it happened, but I just have. I really dig the way things are going with Nikki, the whole storyline is classic Nikki and Victor.

Adam is a sonofabitch, he and Heather are pond scum, Vail Bloom is a terrible actress and the character is a loser.

And they can wipe out whatever LML ''innovations'' they want as far as I'm concerned!

I know, I loved that whole scene -- and I especially liked how Jabot was somehow at the core of that whole get-together. All the people there (except maybe Sharon) want a chunk of Jabot.

LOVED when Billy said "Maybe I'm Cain."

I also liked how Cane finally realized what his brother might really be like. The tension was so thick. I also liked the way DG played it when Esther showed up with his beer. Cane looked mortified. This was probably the first time he'd felt embarrassed about his background. He was both insecure next to Billy -- and powerful and assertive when talking with Jill and Jack about Jabot. This proves to me that DG should be catapulted out of the Kollege Kidz SLs and into adult stuff. While they're at it, Michael Grazadei should be, too. He has more than earned his stripes.

Oh, man but didn't she keep reminding the Baldwins (and the viewers) about it. Look at me, poor me! So self-sacrificing, so unselfish! I love the way JC plays it -- even when Gloria's done something nice for somebody, there still isn't a truly sincere bone in her body.

What is the CREAM?

LOL, TeamAdam! I actually feel for Pipsqueak. And having Nick rough him up was totally uncalled for. Adam may have been breaking-and-entering but so were they. It's not their ranch, either.

The CREAM is the face cream that Gloria tampered with years ago that ended up killing a woman, causing the Abbotts to lose Jabot and having Jack step down as CEO.

Damn Pipsqueak! It's not that I'm on Victoria and Nick's side. Rather, it's all about my Nikki love. I loved the episode previous to this one where Nikki blurts out "Damn her! I told her not to bother you" (about Heather).

Nice 9000th episode. Nikki reminiscing about her and Victor, coupled with flashbacks was nice.

And that is

. Totally love that Esther admitted to Jill that something is wrong with Kay, and the scenes for tomorrow's episode look even better.

Once again the musical score, and directing of this episode was solid. I don't want to see Billy/Lily either, because Lily turns all her men into whiny lapdogs.

The 50s and 60s are over. Storytelling won't go back to that type. The 80s and 90s are over. Storytelling won't go back to that type.   I understand the nostalgia and enjoying a certain type of storytelling that was popular when growing up/being 20, 30 yrs old. That's why I watch TV series from the 70s and 80s and not as much current television. But I understand that people's attention spans have changed and therefore storytelling has changed and everything has gotten more expensive and there are more and more projects competing for eyeballs and the big flashy stuff is what makes people look up from their phones 5 seconds before going back to them.  We can never go back to before.

date: Monday, June 9 | Teresa Zimmerman, Lynn Martin | Steven Williford YAY! Caroline is back in action at the law offices. I adore Caroline! She is a woman of business, and she handles her business quite well. Could this be the chance for Tomas to move ahead at Bill Hamilton Esq.? Madison is doing the usual tests for strokes: smiling, holding out the hands, etc., but I do wonder if she'll have him touch the tip of her finger and then the tip of his nose. That one is not easy at all. Trust me, I know! It's about time Derek becomes useful: helping to take down Dana by witnessing her interrogation of Ashley at Orphey Gene's. Oh, Nicole is showing up to question Eva, re: her interactions with Laura. This will either be a bitchfest or it'll be a heartfelt one. Cantankerous? Yes, Ashley! Call it like you see it! Is Tomas working with Katherine to set up Dana? I pray he is!! Child bride needs to calm her ass down; now she's hugging Naomi as if they're besties again? This isn't your "get out of jail" card, sweetheart. The weight that I am sure is now lifted from Eva's shoulders with Nicole accepting her apology? I love that for her. And I am sure, deep down, it helps Nicole to accept and hear it, as well. Dani showing up for Bill and their children? That's love right there, and you can tell how much it not only means for Bill but might also be reminding him of why he fell in love with her. Watch out, child bride; your time might be up by mid-summer! Katherine, you are sneaky... but I do have this sneaking suspicion this is going to blow up right back into your face before you know it. The awkward face-to-face with Chelsea and Madison. Dani introducing herself as "the first wife" is hilarious. I love it. Chelsea and Madison openly flirting in the hospital by the elevator is super cute!! Notes: Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana) continues to serve up the right amount of camp for American daytime. She's almost too good for daytime. I appreciate the new viewpoint of the outside of Dana's apartment. Nice that we can get these viewpoints that other soaps wouldn't dare to explore. Tide is seen in the scene; Tide commercials air right after. Today's jacket on Alex Alegria (Tomas) fits better than the past few he's worn. Hoping this trend continues.
