I’ve been watching the late 1985/early 1986 episodes that recently propped upon Jim’s channel - right now it’s the whole Baxter McCandless storyline and I’m up to the part where Paula has just kidnapped Mark from the hospital after his shooting (damn she is one freaky lady…).

I do have to say though, I *ADORE* watching Constance Towers - she lights up every scene she is in. And also fascinated by pre-Loving Catherine Hickland!

Jim Muneco has uploaded several more Capitol episodes (all still poor quality but watchable).

@SFK You may be interested in this - the video is basically a Constance Towers compilation. Several appearances on Merv Griffin and a segment on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

In the fashion parade for the first segment, you also see Julie Parrish and Karen Kelly.

To me, still one of the most gorgeous dresses in daytime history (headpiece not withstanding).

Poor Sloan, betrayed by her mother and her father.  That's good soap when a vixen is given context and motivation for their actions.

And, it always amazes me that you can hardly tell how horrible the weather was on the day of filming; that's some Hollywood magic.

I wonder how the 16 affiliates were chosen?

Broadcasting March 14th 1982

Washington goes Hollywood -or vice versa

Film crews and promo teams convened in Washington last week to tape segments of Capitol, the new CBS soap opera to be launched Friday, March 26, with a one -hour prime time special from 10 to 11 p.m.

The new daytime drama portrays the fates and fortunes of two prominent political families, the McClandlesses and the Cleggs, who have been enemies for generations and now face new rivalry on the Washington battlefield of political and personal affairs.

To herald the new series, camera crews representing 16 CBS affiliates followed the Hollywood set to the nation's capital for a week of on- location scenes, socializing, press conferences, dinners and an elaborate reception at the Phillips Collection. The show stars veteran actor Rory Calhoun, along with Carolyn Jones, Ed Nelson and Constance Towers. It is produced by John Conboy, winner of eight Emmy awards and producer of The Young and the Restless. The special one -hour introduction was directed by Corey Allen. After its March 26 prime -time launch, Capitol will air every weekday from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

This probably was in response to the storyline where Grant Alexander's D.J. Phillips had Kelly Harper addicted to pills. I think that would have been 1986.

Only in the Reagan 80s would your PSA present a serious medical issue as a serious economic threat to the private sector. Wild. Almost makes you want to edit Conboy's title to producer of Capital. I'd be curious how long after Todd Curtis' accident this was. Do we know what caused the car accident?

Thanks @DRW50.

I looked up information available in the papers on Curtis' accident. It sounds pretty awful. He and his girlfriend were driving when they were rear-ended by another vehicle. This caused the car to go over the guardrail flipping in the process. His girlfriend was the driver and I think it said he was in the back seat. Both were injured, but his were worst.

    • Where to for Dana? She's pissed off the Duprees (most of the cast), alienated her daughter and will she be welcomed by the Have Nots at the diner? Maybe she can befriend Ashley and Derek and liven up their story.
    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
    • It does seem cheap and lazy for this show to have just one family. Passions was heavily criticized but it was nicely structured with a total of four families.
    • I think it was definitely a surprising reveal in the storyline. I had a hard time appreciating Evan because I couldn't get behind his interest in Amanda. But that's because I never thought Sandra Ferguson made her a compelling character (although to give her credit she occasionally had decent emotional scenes with Mac or Rachel).
    • I'll even go further... I'll make her re-think BeLief and create a new patent. Brooke needs stuff to do. Anything other than beg or be in her panties. We need her to be creative. But sadly Bradley has a very low opinion of these characters. To him Brooke is nothing more than sex and scandal... or a pathetic doormat. Ridge is nothing more than a chauvinist pig that needs to pit women against each other to feel like A MAN and Steffy is nothing more than her father's guard-dog. I don't even want to open my mouth about Hope. She is such a fiasco in my opinion... I will not suffer if they kill her off. Bradley pooped on her character and now it's too late to fix it. Annika is great and I would hate to see her go, but slutty Hope was not her thing. The vibe was missing.
    • I've seen Jason interact with Mitch and annoy him. That's as far as I recall. I didn't even have a slight idea that Evan had a vendetta against Rachel... That came as a surprise to me. I thought Evan was Iris's dog and that's it. Now he's definitely more interesting.
