Maeve was close to Joel in age, much more so than he and Jayne. Maeve was only a few years older than Joel while Joel was 14 years older than Jayne.

Does anyone know if any famous or pre-famous soap actresses tried out for Nicole before Jayne Bentzen got it? It was a rather high-profile, popular character played by a departing high-profile actress, so I am guessing they tested a lot of actresses. Jayne Bentzen is the actress I remember most as Nicole, but I always found her rather blah. However, I can see why they de-SORASED her when Maeve left, wanting someone a little closer in age to Joel Crothers. Did Joe and Maeve share many scenes before she left? I've never seen them on screen together, but just visualizing them together, I couldn't imagine there being much chemistry.

Karen Lynn Gorney was quoted in a 1981 issue of People that she was interested in the role of Nicole after Jayne Bentzen departed. It was right around the time of Edge's 25th anniversary party and I believe Gorney was in attendance at the party.

This is the article. It was accompanied by photos of the cast and there was photo of Gorney with a caption saying she wanted the role of Nicole.

There's some debate in the thread about whether she was considered or whether she just wanted to be considered, as apparently she was at a cast party or something.

I do think she would have been an interesting choice, although I can't see her lasting long.

Nicole seems like such a different character between Maeve and Jayne, although to be honest I've barely seen Maeve and the little I have seen was mostly her just sitting around in France.

I always thought she was a little bland on DS, although I did like her as the vampire Roxanne, and she was very beautiful.

If Gorney was looking to get back into soaps, why EON? Sure, it was a great show, but you'd think after her SNL success and earlier soap recognition, she would've gone for a higher profile, higher rated show. Wonder if she tried to get back onto AMC? The show was shifting focus at that point and Tara just wasn't needed, and I'm pretty sure Mary Lynn Blanks was gone and the Tara character totally retired by the time EON was replacing Bentzen.

Nicholson had a fetish for redheads (Fisher, Moore, Cross). Ironically, a couple of years later, Wandrey did appear a younger recast of Laurinda Barrett's Dr. Allison Perry. If Edge wanted to raid Dark Shadows, I would have first considered Marie Wallace or Virginia Vestoff, but they were even older than Wandrey -a no-go with demo conscious ABC.

Someone in the comments section for this wanted to know who the woman is and said she played Barbara Montgomery. Do you know who she is?
