Do you really think I made such a naive statement? You misunderstood, but never mind... Who cares. ;)

Yes, too bad you never simplify your posts for us "lesser posters" to understand.

Whoops. I meant Greg. Not Alvin. I read too fast, and I was referring to how Greg said it hasn't worked since Curlee at GL. My bad.

SORRY, GREG!!!! :)

Y&R's good now...everybody just be happy about that. Last year around this time weren't we looking for reliqueries or some shiz like that? Rejoice and be merry! :)

That was two years ago, I can't even remember the crap Latham was spewing last summer. I think Phyllis was on trial for blackmailing and was sentenced to a million years in prison for that one offense.

Thanks, Cashton! Totally agree! :)

OK... I'm confused: your post, and specifically the words "spells disaster", made me think you were replying to me. But, OK, I was obviously mistaken.

OK, I just watched today's episode on SoapNet, did anyone else notice the slight film look to the show? It's very subtle and not as obvious as it is say on AMC, but I thought they did it well. It's probably most noticeable during the last scene with Victor and Nikki at the beach.

My sentiments exactly.

I can't even remember the crap Latham was spewing last summer.

*Nikki and Jack were running for senate.

*Kevin, Amber and Daniel were hiding bodies and burying money.

*Nick realized he still loved Sharon. Later that day he decided he actually loved Phyllis.

*"I'll kill you Jana". "I have a brain tumor Kevin". "I love you".

*And last but not least, Phyllis was sentenced to six years in prison for... spitting on the sidewalk or something.

The storylines were bad, but at least we had that awesome heavy metal music in the background. It really enhanced the scenes.

I don't think it's a given that two head writers always equal bad news. I may sound like a broken record, but I still think HS and CC had a stellar first year at ATWT. Sheffer was new blood, had fresh ideas, and was really invigorated, whereas Culliton made sure ATWT never lost "the soap" with someone in charge who had never written soap opera before. I think it can be done with the right team.

But you're right, Alvin - it's such a crap shoot, especially when you throw people together who don't know each other personally, or might not have the best rapport. One is preferred, of course... but I don't think you can immediately say that having co-heads always spells disaster.

There I go, being lenient again... sorry...

Ya know what, mike...I stand corrected. :):) Totally forgot about the CC/HS at ATWT.

Which is so contradictory from your insider info you posted in TDAWT a few days ago when I mentioned Hogan/Carolyn.

Apart from that model, Dumas, père/Maquet model might be applied, too. :P

I think 2 HW's is always better than 1.

The issue is, can they work together? Can they take the two visions they have and merge them into one?

I don't know... I don't think so. Dumas/Maquet might be good sometimes...

I somehow feel cheated, although I'm not. I knew those big August/September stories were, in the end, going to suck. But I somehow always had this tiny hope that it might turn out to be something really good.

Silly me.

I look forward to each Y&R episode...I mean almost breathlessly. That hasn't happened in FOREVER. I mean, I almost think it hasn't really happened since Kay Alden first took over as HW...except I really liked the start of Victor's epilepsy arc under LML. But, I have just been enjoying each episode so much.

Of course, there is still more episode to episode variation. I'm noticing that I'm left somewhat cooler by the Seidman and Racina episodes (now that you have me watching credits), but I enjoy most episodes. I still haven't deleted 8/6/08 off my DVR...and that is something I NEVER do. Heck, I even penned an homage to it :). But most shows now move me or make me smile, and definitely can't wait till the next episode.

Thus, I actually feel August lived up to the hype.

Once again epople need to stopt aking posts personal. if you feel its a personal attack report it. But DO NOT STOP posting your thours, your views, and how you feel because someone else mught take it the wrong way.

Come on now people. We can all disagree an d debate. Thats the point. ignore the people you feel attack you or [!@#$%^&*] on you or are out to get you. And this is directed at EVERYONE! Because seariously, ever since i started placing on ignore i have loved posting more and more.

I live for brimike's posts, and I hate that he feels sensitive. I know what he means. There is a poster who criticized me a lot on ratsc...a guy I really liked and enjoyed exchanging with...but he hated that I posted spoilers (under protection), and that eventually drove him off the board. I'm sorry he's gone, but honestly it had come to the point that I got pains in my stomach whenever I wanted to post anything for fear of annoying him.

That is a terrible feeling.

That is why "ignore" IS your friend! In addition, that is why I LOVE LOVE LOVE the "unpopular opinions" thread...because it is a place of no judgment. I wish the whole board could be like that.

Not silly you, you had hope, that's not something to be ashamed of.

I don't feel that the August/September stories suck, I find them really enjoyable and I feel the actors received some great scenes to play, the show does feel like there is some momentum...I guess I'm being optimistic as well.

I agree...momentum. But like brimike, I'm not looking into the future. I'm very much watching each episode on its' own merits, in the context of my lifelong love for Y&R. Right now, each show has me eagerly anticipating the next. I know this will not last; I know the show is far from perfect...but I prefer to look at the positive.

Actually Y&R has been good during the last month or two. It's nowhere near perfection but at least it isn't at the bottom. I can endure every scene with the characters I hate, and then comment on how they suck here. That's what the forum is for. I didn't expect much for those Aug/Sep spoilers and that's why I wasn't disappointed. People who suddenly start expecting a miracle will only end up disappointed.

I also let the hype make me expect less, not more. That said, I find the August drama pretty much lived up to the hype.

I have to admit that final scene with Jana, Kevin, and the Ouiji board was kind of creepy. Emily O'brien rocks!

What I loved was Kevin's almost orgasmic need to set off that fire. He burned Gina's. He torched himself in the hospital. When Michael first met up with him he called him a "little firebug". So we know that Kevin has a life long joy of fire and flame as a way of acting out. Thus, the fact that he could LEGALLY torch something, and do it with his girl....Greg PERFECTLY played his delighted. I don't know if that was scripted, but it was a delight that Rikaart had a PERFECT grasp of his character's history in that scene!

No one was expecting a miracle. At least, I wasn't.

I expected gradual change for the better. And even though something of the sorts happened, it's still like a roller-coaster, up then down, then up... It doesn't have stability.

I see gradual change for the better. See the figure below...that is gradual change. That is what I feel I see. Improvement is not, day to day, necessarily a straight line.

But what bugs me big time is the seeming lack of will to sort this out. Maria Arena Bell doesn't even have the guts to hire her own team, to somehow bind it together according to her own principles. She just hired a few friends and fired some others. (And left Scott Hamner on team of all people...) Without any sort of rule whatsoever, it doesn't matter if the writer's good or not, she just hired/fired randomly.

She just doesn't know how to run this show. Then as a quick fix, she hired - again, of all people - Hogan Sheffer, who has a reputation of needing someone to control his output.

All one big, gigantic mess.

I can't comment. Is it Maria? Is it BBJr? Is it Sony?

Yes, my bias is that Hamner should go. But he is being retained for a REASON, and (given the fairly rapid dismissal of Griffith) I do not believe it is inertia or ineptitude. We were told by Racina that Hamner is doing some kind of coordination function. If he is good at that, why fire him? He may have little to do with the creative product on our screens.

We have established elsewhere that Sylph is an "absolutist" and I am a "relativist". So, that also applies to show quality for me. BUT, honestly Sylph, in today's posts I somehow felt wounded by your balloon popping :). Y&R is the best on daytime, it is better than it has been, and it seems to be on ascendant trajectory. Why not celebrate for a change?

This is not meant to be personal, challenging, or mean-spirited! I really write this to all of us. There is a good show, and it is getting better. For one fine minute, let's just revel in that!
