Its ok for OLTL to rehash history, but not ok for Days to dig into their history........sounds like a double standard to me. Im sick of reading negative things about this show. If yall arent happy about the plot twist....dont watch. Sorry just my opinion.

Y&RWorldTurner. You don't see the point? That's could be because you haven't seen the story and the scenes yet. You don't even know how this is going to work. Why don't you just give it a chance before you start talking down on the idea. jmo

I think this could play out well. I never saw Samantha "live" but I certainly know who she is and so do many many others including the younger viewers since she's been mentioned a couple of times during the years.

I'm with you Ilovedays.

Coming out of the woodwork to agree. I just love how some didn't even read the post and are acting like she is being resurrected. She's appearing to Marlena in a drugged state. That's it. It's a nice nod to history.

If something like this had happened on OLTL, many would be praising it. Oh wait. That is happening on OLTL. Perhaps some should go over to those threads and bash away since it's pretty much the exact same thing  .

Back to lurking I go.

I was around for the Strangler Storyline, any historical reference to that plot is definately worth tuning in to. A few years ago when Hattie showed up in Salem and Marlena saw her for the first time we were treated to SEVERAL classic flashbacks. Two flasbacks were from the mid to late 70's when Samantha drugged Marlena and sent her to the sanitarium, so she could take over Marlena's life. The other flashback was during the Strangler Storyline, when Don realized Marlena was really alive and it was Samantha that was murdered by Jake.

Anything that celebrates the past and is done with continuity in mind is worth watching to me. So please bring it on.

I couldn't agree more. People are just down on Dena for the sake of it. I'm not a huge fan of the state DAYS is in just now but I'm not using the tiniest excuse to criticise it. My only complaints on the state of the show is that Nadia Bjorlin isn't a strong enough actress to carry a frontburner storyline and that it has a tendency to sometimes look like 1980s porn in the way it is produced, but I do acknowledge that there are people trying to make this show a better one to watch.

Personally, I think it's great that DAYS is mining its rich history in a way other than 'look who's back from the dead this week'. Dena may not be the most talented writer in daytime, but she's trying to make the show better and that's no easy task considering she has Corday as a boss. I hope this idea is a hit, maybe some more history inspired stories could follow.

OLTL rehashing its history ties into a special series of one-off episodes (that somewhat tie into the present show) that pays homage to storylines of the past. We don't know the full spoilers for this yet, but I just don't see why Samanta would appear to Marlena when she's drugged? How does Samantha appearing to Marlena in a drugged state tie into DAYS history? Does that references a historical moment on DAYS?

I didn't "talk" down the idea, all I said was I don't get why Samantha would appear to Marlena in a drugged state when she hasn't appeared to Marlena in other compromising states over the past couple of years.

All I meant was, what's the point of having Samantha there? I think it's compelling enough to have Stefano do to Marlena what she did to him.

It could play out well, but still many who might be watching probably know very little about the Samantha/Marlena relationship.

Well I don't see the problem if someone doesn't know about the connection between Marlena and Samantha. They might appreciate the story anyway. When I first started watching I loved it when there were flashback, the really old ones.

And I don't understand how you can not see the point of Samantha appearing since you haven't seen any of it yet. There could be a number of scenarios. We just have to wait and see.

I don't mind any history being used (I never understood why a show that has been on for over 4 decades has a mandate not to even mention their rich history), but it just has to be written well.

I just don't know, and this is only based on the comments about Days, because I don't watch OLTL, that Dena can pull this off and have it fit the story.

That's all I'm saying. :)

To me, there is a problem if someone "doesn't know the connection between Marlena and Samantha." It's not a big problem, as Samantha probably isn't going to be there for more than 3 epsiodes, but if you don't understand the connection, how are you going to enjoy it's historical significance?

Flashbacks are well and fun and all, but if you know very little about the history and the fact that Samantha isn't referenced very often on DAYS, how does one learn to appreciate it?

On other soaps, when "ghosts" have appeared to core characters, those ghosts often did it before and were often still a major part of the characters they were appearing to lives. No one can tell me that Marlena's thought about Samantha non-stop recently or that Samantha has a long history of appearing to Marlena.
