Kimberly McCullough is highly overated and one of the most bland, stale and one note actresses in Daytime.

Ingo Radamacher is a terrible actor and is in the wrong profession

GL ain't that bad most of the time

Maura West is okay

Finola Hughes can be rather annoying at times

Rick Springfield just needs to go away

I like Genie Francis, and don't think rude for her to go to the media and tell it like it is

Rebecca Budig is a good actress, stuck in a old and tired role that needs to just go away

Jeanne Cooper could use a few acting lessons

Eric Braeden isn't as obnoxious and arrogant as he's made out to be

Laura Wright is the shiz, and people just need to except that :P

David Tom is a terrible actor

For me...........

GH:

1. Vanessa Marcil and her character Brenda are MAJORLY OVERRATED - Vanessa Marcil is an over-hyped, one-note actress, who leans on GH as a life support when her Primetime dealings fall through. Im tired of the Brenda rumors, will someone just kill the character so we won't ever have to hear about her "return" ever again. If VM was so good and so great than her ass would be able to hold on to a primetime job and would never have to limp back to GH when it falls through. There was a GH before Brenduh and after Brenduh..so stay gone VM we don't need you or Brenda back. People act like this woman is the second coming of jesus

2. Laura Wright...please be a dear and take an early retirement...im tired of looking at her pissy face routine everyday.

3. Spinelli is a pointless character..his act has become tired.

4. JMB's Lulu has to be the one of the worst GH characters to ever grace our screen...she makes me miss Skipper the Stripper aka Courtney Matthews....ugh

5. Steve "Time has not been kind" Burton hasn't aged well..........boyfriend looks a hot mess!

OLTL

1. Tangeline was amazing...simply amazing!

2. I just dont buy JPL in any "hetero" romances lol!

ATWT

1. Either Van Hansis forgot how to act, or he is actually an amazing actor fooling us into believing he cannot act(does that make sense...)

2. ATWT messed up by not going with Kevin/Luke....now those two had angst and a good build up...but instead we get Nuke..ugh

AMC

Don't see anything special about Rebecca Budig. To me, she is just an okay actress

Really like Annie

Megan McTavish was better than B&E. Yes some of her stories were bad but I never got to the point, where I was happier turning off my t.v then watching.(thanks B&E!)

GH

Over Tony Geary

ETA: Another GH unpopular opinion...love Jerry, love him with Alexis

ETA 2: AMC uo-Like Krystal. Like her with both Adam and Tad. Liked Alexa's Babe and like Amanda's take

Well, y'all are taking the fun out of my NUKE SUCKS declaration. :D But I'll go a step further...Van's acting is just b-a-d...bad, bad, bad.

Martha Byrne's acting was overrated.

I respect Jon Hensley, but he isn't leading man material. And throwing this plum story at him won't revitalize his character.

The most interesting part of the Stewart/Hughes feud remains Kim/Susan. The rest of it is mostly bunk.

Katie needs to leave, and take her whipped puppy Brad with her. Katie sucks the brain out of every man she's paired with. She's a freakin' vampire.

I'm okay with Parker being such a disillusioned kid. He's more interesting than 99% of soap kids.

CVP is over-rated and over the top. She sucks.

Van Hansis - Ditto CVP.

Gloria isn't half bad.

GL isn't bad ALL the time.

B&E weren't that bad on GL.

I loved the Reva Clone/Dolly SL.

I like the Reva movie SL.

I can't stand Daniel Goddard.

Amelia is growing on me as Victoria.

Josh Morrow is only good to look at. Can't act for crap.

I like the addition of Tyra.

I like Jana.

I like Sabrina.

I liked John Conboy's GL.

Paul Rauch wasn't half bad on GL.

- I have tried many, many times to watch Y&R and have never made it through an entire episode. I think its possibly the most boring soap opera on the air.

- I know that Alicia Minshew isn't a great actress, but I don't care. I find her infinitely watchable anyway. She's a chemistry machine, she's beautiful, she's got tons of presence, and Kendall is a good fit for her. That's enough to carry her through a long, successful soap career. Ask Susan Lucci.

- I still love Zendall. Their chemistry is insane, they look gorgeous together, and the characters' have a great soap backstory. Their story (or rather. LACK of story) is proof positive to me that AMC is doomed.

- I love Carly and Holden on ATWT. I know it will never last, but I'm going to enjoy every last minute of what I get.

- I finally get what everyone says about RC's writing on OLTL - he's making me think a Todd/Marty/John/Blair quad could work, and that's just ALL kinds of wrong, on ALL kinds of levels.

- Scrubs on GH bored me from day one. I thought Jason Thompson had better chemistry with Becky Herbst, and I mourn the Jason/Robin/Patrick/Liz quad that will never be almost as much as I mourn the Lucky/Liz/Nik triangle that will never happen.

- Carly should have been written out with Sarah Brown, because NO other actress playing the role has hit the underlying insecurity that was they only thing that made the character bearable to watch.

I would rather watch GL than Y&R. I can only think of one vaguely likable character on Y&R (Jack), and the show is painfully dull.

Say what you will about Guiding Light, but at least they're innovating, and the cast is so brilliant that I think it works.

I don't really get Scrubs. I mean, they're okay, and I would rather watch them than Carly, Sonny, or Jason, but they're generally dull and repetitive, and I don't see any of the chemistry others see. They're like blank space.

I wasn't bothered at all when GH took Jackie Zeman off contract. She was never a talented actress, her face is hard to look at, and she'd been relegated to propping Carly.

I also wasn't bothered when AMC sent Brooke English off into the Martin attic. Talented actress, but was there any point to Brooke anymore?

I don't think Steve and Kayla are needed on the DAYS canvas. I like the actors, but they have nothing to do. I would much rather see Stephen Nichols bring Stefan back to GH.

I wish DAYS would just drop Dee Hall. John is WAY more fun without Marlena, and DH just always seems so smug to me.

AMC

~ I loathe Zendall, I'll never ever ever take a sip of that Kool-Aid.

~ Alicia Minshew can't cry to save her life, and she's a mediocre actress at best.

~ Thorsten Kaye showed more emotion when Zach was involved with Maria/Maureen, and I didn't like that pairing either.

~ I love Aidan, but the writers have wasted the character in epic ways. I haven't liked any of his pairings much at all since he was with Kendall.

~ Cameron Mathison is a great guy, and I won't transfer my feelings for his character on to him.

~ Ryan isn't that bad. Granted, he was a better character the first time around, but he's not horrible now.

~ Kendall deserved to be a blubbering idiot when Ryan and Greenlee got married in 2004. You scheme and lie, the [!@#$%^&*] catches up to you (and I don't care if this character or that character schemes and lies too).

~ I don't understand how if Greenlee or Ryan do something stupid, the characters are bashed, but if Kendall or Zach do something stupid, the writers are bashed.

~ Susan Lucci is the only reason why Erica is still on the show. I love Erica and always will, but TPTB would have dumped her ages ago if played by a lesser-known actress.

~ I loved Babe before the baby switch (some people couldn't stand her because she cheated on her husband with his brother....you know, because that is SUCH an unheard of thing in daytime...GMAB).

~ If introduced during a better period of the show under better writers, Krystal could have become a long-running, beloved character.

~ Ritchie is/was insignificant and never important to anything.

~ I loved the Kendall/Ryan/Greenlee triangle in 2003/early 2004. It took a nosedive after the wedding.

~ I hated all of Bianca's pairings.

~ Loved a lot of the smaller, brief, random pairings like Maggie/Jamie, Reggie/Joni, Tad/Lysistrata, and Adam/Mary.

~ Laura Allen wasn't horrible.

~ I hate the Santos family, except for Julia. I hated Edmund and Maria, and I couldn't stand their kids (though I liked Sam after SORASing).

~ Ava wasn't terrible at first.

~ The FilmLook is still there, I can see the difference, and two years later, it still sucks.

~ Fusion is pointless and needs to go.

~ I like "New Beginnings."

~ Agnes Nixon isn't senile.

ATWT

~ Nuke sucks. Horrible. Ridiculous. Much (NOT ALL) of their popularity stems from some (NOT ALL) of their fans' desire to relive their youth vicariously through the characters (that hurts, I know, but it's what I think). No matter how horribly written the storyline is (and it's been written horribly), as long as Noah and Luke end up together, the fans are going to eat it up.

~ Maddie had every right to open an epic can of whoop-ass on Noah (not because he's gay; because he cheated on her).

~ Van Hansis isn't a horrible actor. He was amazing in 2006, but as long as Luke is stuck in this dumb storyline, he can kiss any hope for an Emmy good-bye.

~ Luke, as a character, was much better in 2006, even when he was on the backburner. They gayed him up for Noah big time.

~ Marnie Schulenburg is great as Alison and fits the show well. I can't buy her as a porn star/meth addict though; she's too adorable.

~ Aaron and Alison are a great pairing and always interest me.

~ If Rosanna comes back, I'll gladly take her place in her coma.

~ Paul and Meg have been a force of boredom for two and a half years.

~ I love Kelley Menighan Hensley and the character of Emily Stewart.

~ Jade was orgasmic, but horribly written.

~ I loved Gwen for a very long time. When Jennifer Landon stopped caring, so did I.

~ Roger Howarth is a cringe-worthy actor and feeds the soap actor stereotype.

~ Jack and Carly aren't destined to be a couple.

~ I don't understand how if most of the other characters do something stupid, the characters themselves are bashed, but if Carly does something stupid, the writers are bashed.

~ Vienna has outstayed her welcome tremendously.

~ The teens' trip to Branson was fun and interesting for what it was.

~ Dylan Bruce isn't terrible, and no, I'm not just saying that because he seduces me every time he appears on screen.

~ Hogan Sheffer was such a bad fit for ATWT. He fit DAYS more than he fit ATWT.

~ I don't think Jean Passanante is as much to blame for the show's current state as people think she is.

~ The Hughes family isn't as ignored or dead as people think...the writing just needs to be better and one or two family members should return.

~ The Stewarts are an extremely important part of the show's history and if any family is being ignored, it would be them.

~ Even as a child, I never liked the show's business storylines...back then, it was because I was too young to understand them, but now, it's because I see ATWT as a very domestic soap.

Shows cater too much to fanbases. For example, Nuke from the START.

The internet is actually not an accurate representation of fans.

AMC

I too think that McT got a bad wrap, and he work wasn't as bad as people said.

I'm glad they recasted Colby.

B&B

I actually want Eric and Donna to work out.

Nuke should have been the best, freshest thing on daytime. It should have grown viewership. Instead, corporate timidity and writers with no sense of narrative killed it.

Some soap should start over and DO THIS STORY RIGHT.

The baby-stealing two-soap story was one of the most exciting of this decade. I found it well written, and the umbrella story was remarkably intergenerational and used many vets. It also made me feel. McT gets full credit for that.

ETA: You know what I love about this thread? It empowers us to use SON as it was MEANT to be used...to freely express our opinions without threat of negative judgment, incivility. This is a thread asking for opinions--especially the contrarian ones we mostly bury in favor of safer group think--and boy are they coming! The thread is doing a remarkable job of inspiring passion and analysis. Thank you so much Graciecat for this inspired exercise!

    • I’m sensing you’re not really a John Black fan from your posts.
    • The John Black character has been a part of my life for decades. I like heroes being honored.  I'm glad they are giving him a long farewell and tribute.
    • Annie Dutton was anything, but sane when she was introduced.  She was very tortured and looked like she was on the verge of tears when she was first introduced.   While people, and writers, made it seem as though Annie lost her mind because of Josh.. I truly think that Annie had a lot of untreated mental issues that didn't manifest until her marriage to Josh. Sonni was also anything, but strong when she was first introduced either.   Claire in 1983 was a complete 180 from the Claire that we got in 1986... and I do agree that her character was degraded.
    • I remember seeing him briefly when Rick went to confront her about her blackmailing him. (I briefly forgot that Rick's sleeping with Claire at this time was a retcon - or her lying that she slept with him, whatever that story was). I wonder if he interacted with Kurt given that Mark Lewis later took his ATWT role. I tried to watch some of the full episode and it was all so alien and uninvolving. Roxy having a meltdown on that construction site for Mindy and Kurt's house that never gets built. Ed with Ross and Vanessa dealing with custody issues. Even Ross and Vanessa seemed flat, with Vanessa seeming oddly meek.
    • She did. It was during a party at Amanda's. She didn't literally throw herself at him, but she was subtly coming on to him and he quickly shut her down. Yes, I remember she not only made a pass at Justin, she convinced Jackie that he was harassing her sexually. She also tried to convince Sara that he was pestering her. Everyone banged Josh back then, LOL. Whoa. I must have missed a good chunk of this first time around because I don't remember Reva going to India.  What I recall is Harley being a nanny to the kids and then Reva driving off the bridge. Then they kind of toyed with the idea of Josh and Harley getting together but I don't think that ever happened. Yes, that all happens but I don't recall the tumor. Maybe that's coming up soon with the videos being uploaded to Spauldingfield. The last one I watched, she was planning to vamp Kyle while taking care of the pregnant Maeve.
    • I am a little disappointed that the show will be writing Jenn as in the wrong for her not liking Cat, when she's actually in the right.  Maybe if Cat was played by a competent actress and had a purpose, I would be more behind this propping of the character. And I can't wait for the funeral for John Black to be over and then we can proceed and move on.
    • I'm not sure if the boy Carrie 2 seduced (I think his name was Ron) was still in high school or in college, but I remember he was very shy. I don't recall her making a pass at Alan, but she did make one at Justin, and she ended up banging Josh. I think there was an out of town business man too. Reva thought Josh and Vanessa were having an affair. Vanessa had just been fired by Roger, and when Reva took off to India, Van started helping Josh with the children. He then hired Van to work at Lewis. She would hear him on a business call with Van and think they were arranging a tryst. Or they sat too close together on the couch, so of course they were hiding an affair from her. It was very weird and blew up really quick.  It culminated at the party Reva was throwing at the club to introduce Dylan to Justin. Reva imagined everyone whispering about her and then she dumped a tray of drinks on Vanessa. When Vanessa hauled her into the ladies room to ask WTF, Reva accuses them of having an affair, asks if Van's pregnant, and then knocks her to the floor. I do think Claire had a tumor. I know around Valentine's day, Claire is making passes at a young businessman (or maybe even someone college age), and Ross (Van kinda pushed her at him because she's not keen on Calla). There's also a young intern played by Burke Moses that I think she sleeps with.

If the standard of play in the women's final yesterday wasn't of the highest caliber, that is not something you could say about today's final. It was absolutely fantastic tennis.
    • When Barbara's letter was read (partly in Barbara's voice), there was commenting upthread that Barbara's voice is similar to the voice of Naomi's unhoused client June.  It did sound like her.  June is played by Jasmine Burke.  Per closing credits, Barbara was voiced by Sherita Bolden.  Still possible that they are connected. From our discussion on the May thread:  Looks and/or voices similar between June, Haley, and Tracy.   Tracy looks like Debbi Morgan. LOL so June might be connected to Haley, Tracy, or Barbara; and/or Samantha&Tyrell. I love that we don't know!
    • In the 1987 episodes, Mary has wonderful conversations with MJ and Cheryl. This is a realistic family with believable dynamics. Mary's ambivalence towards Vince is played nicely. Denise Alexander is so good here. I don't know what happened that the writers or producers just decided to chuck it all away. I don't FF these scenes. The show had a strong family that could have had years of storyline and they did nothing with them. I really don't get it.
