I still find H&A the best of any current soaps, although that doesn't mean a great deal. It's the main show where I still care about a majority of the characters, and they have a better balance of stories. With that said, they do need a change - I would write out Harper, Tane, Mali, Bree and the members of Lyrik. I don't dislike any of these characters (maybe Harper), but I think their stories are over. The only one I might keep is Eden because of her siblings - Levi's arrival and the show's willingness to have him actually do bad things and be called out for them was one of the best parts of the show this year (his being hot helps).

I would also give Marilyn a story again - a much better story than her last few.

That surprises me. Apart from Hollyoaks, I find H&A one of the worst soaps now, I stopped watching at the beginning of 2019. All the characters are bland and samey, and they just introduce attractive pairs of siblings then replace them with attractive pairs of siblings. There's no diversity in the cast or in terms of the stories, it's basically just a soap version of Love Island now. They also ignore their older cast in a patronising way and ignore the past.

I agree about the lack of diversity and history, but I like most of the characters (which is NOT something I can say about any other soaps at present) and most of the stories never drag on too long. I think some of the older cast are well-used in one capacity or another (Irene and Alf have their share of plots while John is a wonderful counsel and quasi-comic relief figure). Marilyn and Roo could be better used, especially Marilyn. I find Leah somewhat tiresome, along with Justin.

If I had more of a history with the show, I might feel differently.

They are just images used from old promos, for now, and I don't like the overly angsty version of the theme (they've had this for a while so that's more of an excuse than the poor angsty Neighbours theme tune I guess), but it's nice to have credits again, even for just an episode a week.

    • Copying and pasting pasting this here as to not to derail the KL thread lol Wow I forgot CBS actually did try multiple attempts to come up with a soapy replacement for Knots on Thursday nights in the 10/9 slots for the 93-94 season.   Angel Falls had promise but CBS didn’t give it a fair chance. Latham’s Second Chances got even worse ratings than Angel Falls and wasn’t given a second chance when the Northridge quake destroyed the show’s sets. One West Waikiki looked gorgeous but was a blink you missed it affair. Finally we got Hotel Malibu, a quasi follow-up to Second Chances that stayed as the summer replacement series it was. CBS switched gears and had Chicago Hope air in the slot…against ER. It made the Top 30 but obviously underperformed below expectations. CBS gave up, and gave us 48 Hours for years there. It wasn’t until the 2002-03 season when CBS finally produced a Top 20 show for that spot with Without A Trace against an aging ER.
    • Of course I join in on wishing that Peacock & Corday & Sony would all together come to the conclusion that NOW would be a fine time to put some of these gems in the archive on full display!!! But, at the same time I'd like to give kudos to the fact that behind the scenes they've been doing the great work of preservation by taking tapes, etc. & converting them to modern digital formats. Besides the important fact of preserving them it means they are ready to go!

    • Bill and Hayley’s living room set should be redressed as their bedroom. We’ve not seen their gorgeous circular entry way set since the first week? Why not utilise that more and build them a living room off those double doors? The hotel room also doesn’t have a bed? Does only Dani have a bedroom?
    • as posted upthread, this interview was on that channel's youtube   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLraEMlqtTw

    • @Paul Raven thank you for the synopsis! I enjoy reading these before dozing off for the night. That aside, this Charles character sounds like a horror, just reading about him. I can only imagine how he was watching in real time. But it is intriguing to, as I wish there were more clips of LOL out there besides the one episode from this era that I've seen, which is the one of Cal getting in the car wreck.
