Tubi had a good selection of past Emmerdale - until today. Not sure where it'll end up next. Fortunately I'm still able to finish watching the plane crash saga and its January '94 aftermath, as part of my holiday soap viewing. I want to thank @DRW50 among others for providing a wealth of knowledge, it's been interesting digging into other key events in Emmerdale's past. I can't believe they killed off Frazer Hines not long after this. I know he's supposedly been rallying to come back; they could do (and have done) far worse.

Kudos for diving in - I'm sure it must be a mix of confusing and underwhelming at first, but there's a lot worth watching (nothing before or since in Emmerdale history matches this period in seeing the show tear itself down and build itself back again).

Sadly, the way Frazer was treated is par for the course with Emmerdale, but it was a very bad mistake, and I'm sorry they never tried to rectify it.

Not that confusing - I knew a fair bit of Emmerdale background on some stuff going in, and the rest was easily researchable. I do think it's a shame both next generation Sugden boys are gone atm but what are you gonna do. Frank Tate is even sexier than I remember, sorry not sorry. It's a very strong month-plus of episodes.

I was going to tag you to vent about Dingle protection, but I figure you get tired of that. I don't hate the Dingles, but this is an episode where the shield annoys me a great deal because it makes so much more sense for Noah to die - Samson would have to be more of a father to his kid with Amelia, Amelia would have more angst, as would Charity, etc. I know he's a Tate too and we don't need more dead Tates, but it's not as if the show ever plays into that side of him.

The worst part is that while the actors who play Wendy, Bob and Brenda all gave strong performances, the production felt so exploitive and overwrought that I couldn't even properly connect.

So many wrongly killed characters on this show.

You're right on all counts why killing Noah makes more sense. Personally I only need one reason.....

I wonder if we could possibly get an appearance by Scott in connection to this.... They mentioned him earlier last year when Cathy went to stay with him, so it wouldn't be completely out of the blue. If Ben Freeman is unavailable I'd be open to a recast. (Frankly I wouldn't mind a recast even if he is available). A comeback for Scott to the village would make this death a tiny, tiny, tiny bit less pointless.

I really liked Viv and her doomed husband in the plane crash episodes. But I wasn't surprised to hear that all of them and even the amazing Shirley at the Woolpack had croaked in the intervening years, and many of the young characters had met dire fates. (I thought the original child Scott also did quite a good job portraying PTSD, clinging fearfully to his horse)

The complaint here reminds me of when EE killed off Dennis Jr. a few years ago - a huge waste of future potential given his lineage.

Ah that 1994 period after Phil Redmond’s ‘parachuted in’ period was over and Nicholas Prosser was left to retool the show out of the rubble.

Then Mervyn Watson came in and established the Dingles as a core family. And the show has never looked back, neither moved forward, it seems.

    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
    • Gosh, what a waste with Lunacy. Why have her live with $B, reveal Finn, pardon her, etc What makes this story incredibly hollow is that what Luna is asking isn't unreasonable - to spend time with her cousin father. She's not asking to move in with them. How hard with it be for Finn to throw her a bone by, say, I'll meet you for lunch/coffee once at week at the hospital cafeteria. Lunacy isn't going to hurt Finn. In fact, all her crimes were related to finding her father and it turns out to be someone she's loved her entire life. Instead of course-correcting the nonsense of last summer, Brad somehow found a way to make this worse! That's a skill... Of all the younger actors B&B has cast during the past 5 years, LY has shown the most growth and range. Why get rid of her?
    • On the subject of sets (seems more interesting to discuss than the actual show)  Some sets we don't see anymore Lauren/Michael apartment (haven't seen that in years) Victoria's house (are Marian/Tessa living there?) Apartment above Crimson Lights (I think Chelsea was the last resident) Penthouse (Lily's home) Chancellor Estate (Devon/Abby) Chancellor office (once Dark Horse) Nick's house GCAC room (used as residence/hotel room for several characters) Some of these may pop up again. The tack house, for example, was not seen for many months before being used again. Have I missed anything?
    • Thanks for searching through everything. Worked on them so long, just too lazy to check for those links myself, so I am glad you chose to do it! I guess I never did type out anything for 1973-1977 in regards to the preemptions, but they are on the charts at least (and this far back, they don't seem to do any of those "breakouts" anymore, so things are simpler in the 1970's, so eventually I could type those out).
    • I dump on the Y&R sets problem all the time, but BOLD is no better -- and they're not even introducing new sets. All of their sets are years old, and very few look like they're inhabited by people with money. Is that going to change with this move? I'd rather they save the money spent on another remote, which is no better than an HGTV travelogue, and get some new/better sets.
    • The donut posts here make up for a Friday show that was barely meh. Aside from seeing Anna, I really didn't care much about anything else. While I understand the thought behind breaking up all the sadness with "other scenes," I'd rather they moved right to John's funeral. Instead of hearing a stupid story about John changing some minor character's tire 20 years ago, just move on to the crying. I also thought the Chad and Cat scenes were a waste. I realize not everyone is devastated by John's death to the point of not functioning, but going sky diving is a choice. By the way, Jack and Jennifer are giving me nothing on this return. Please leave asap. DAYS did such a great job with John's death, so ending the week this way was a letdown.
    • Add Dr. Montgomery to list of fine women on this show! I hope the show goes forward with Madison/Chelsea and then once they're developed, bring back Allison, who is now divorced or a widow, for a Madison/Chelsea/Allison triangle.  It would definitely be the hottest triangle in daytime.
