Honestly did anyone really think AMC would rise again? I sure didn't. I figured it would drop once the Tad/Dixie/Kate stuff was finished, cause the show is pretty much crap right now, and Jesse, Angie & Frankie weren't on for like a week if I remember right

I don't think either the Thornharts or McBain are long for the show.

If Susan is only here for a set period, where does John go as a character with her gone again?

I am not sure, but you may want to spoiler that part above. And I can't find the interview now,

but I believe she said she was returning for a set period of time, but that there was an "open end?"

Furthermore <she raises her hand timidly> I already said, and I completely agree that it's too early in the game to make a firm determination about the utilization of the characters. I am just mildly disappointed thus far. I wish I saw the fire you were talking about, but I don't. But I was always SH/Marty neutral. Neither loved nor hated her. And I am more than willing to withhold judgement for awhile to see how things develop.

she had been so abused by DH.

ICAM with this statement. And I never thought CC was the greatest recast ever, but I thought the writing for Marty was some of the worst material any performer ever had to work with. JMO.

But I still think AE is being poorly utilized. First because if I've heard correctly, she's

only here for two months (don't know if that's taping or air dates) and that's not a lot of time to integrate her IMO.

Second, it's fine to pull people from the backburner and use Tina as a launchpad for these characters' new stories. But I don't think it satisfies the longing of those people who've been waiting for AE to return.

And then there's Vee... who's caused me to completely re-examine what I just said. Glad you post here, Vee.

Ditto TC! Is this just about the best place ever?

As for the ratings, can't you just hear Frons screaming at Carlivati now? "I TOLD you no one wants to watch those old characters! Write me some more teens!"

evermore!!!!! Are you trying to hurt me?

Of course Andrea Evans was brought back to prop up the kiddies. Frons and ABC have no intention of telling a story about a late-40ish woman who's been off the canvass for 20 years. She will surely get plenty of screen time and interact with Slezak, but story will not be told from her point of view. And before anyone screams that I'm just bashing OLTL and Carlivati, none of this has nothing to do with Carlivati. That's just an ABC mandate. The same thing will probably happen with Debbi and Darnell at AMC. Now that Jesse/Angie are back together and they got past the back-from-the-dead [!@#$%^&*], they will probably be props for Frankie and Cassandra. I don't see it happening any other way. ABC's agenda is to tell stories about characters in their teens through 30s. Except for a few aging marquis stars on the network who get some semblance of story, these shows are blatently about the kids.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the reason that SH & AE return didn't register a blip in the ratings is because ABCD veteran viewers have been burned way too times by stunt casting to fall for it again. Every time that they've brought a beloved vet back, like Finola Hughes on GH, they turn the character into some over the top charactature that bears no resemblance to the original. I think that havin FH act like a stage struck groupie as Anna went gaga over 'Eli Love' was the last straw!

The poster that said that TAIC at ABCD couldn't care less about their 40's+ cast members was right on the money.

In Andrea Evans case, I think that she preferred to get less screentime or just being on recurring. Andrea stated numerous time, she doesn't want to do a job if that means being away from her daughter and husband for a long period of time. Since she got a family her husband and daughter out in LA dont expect her to get so much airtime and plus she is involved in charity work that takes up time too.

When Andrea was on Passions for eight years, she didn't want a lot of screentime nor being on a contract.

But yes sadly over the last few years, I had witnessed that ABCD has not only practice agism (showing less of the veterians or anyone over 35) but sexism ( making the women characters needy and powerless) and racism (not showing a lot of non-white characters or given them screentime) too. Now they are waking up too bad that it took a ratings dive to do something about it.

Yeah, Andrea Evans doesn't do contract work anymore...she never had one at Passions and she was there for 8 years and had a decent amount of screentime (often more than Kim Johnston Ulrich who had a contract her entire run). Her return to OLTL isn't going to do a damn thing. Longtime viewers of ABC Daytime are leaving in droves, after you've been burned as many times as they have, it's goodbye forever! The ageism and sexism displayed by that network is sickening. I left GH forever once Jackie Zeman was taken off contract. For others the last straw was Julia Barr or Stuart Damon. For me it was JZ for in her ouster I saw everything I hated about Brian Frons' take on ABC Daytime wrapped up into one disgusting move.

Good to see that Y&R and B&B are stable. It will be interesting to see what Y&R's ratings are for this current week with Victor and Sabrina's wedding...Y&R weddings are usually reliable draws...if this one isn't, well, Hogan can't come fast enough (and I've got my reservations about him)...B&B follows the lead of Y&R, they work in tandem.

ATWT and GL are in horrible shape. Those are some scary numbers. If I was an actor on either of those shows I'd call my agent.

DAYS, a slight rebound. But not enough. That is a show I pity for it's actually pretty decent at the moment.

I'm very much enjoying DOOL and I'm glad it went up a little bit. As far as OLTL, I think Ron C is incredibly overrated and don't see what people are getting out of the show. I watched him kill off my favorite character and have not watched since.

HOWEVER, Andrea Evans has not been on in 20 years. If people do come back to watch her it probably will take a while. Word of mouth will bring those viewers who are not watching back if they are coming back to watch AE. Also, OLTL really did not drop in the ratings. The previous week they went up and I think that was because of the BE takeover and Nash's death. There was some talk about that stuff. In my opinion, it was a pretty big week and the show got a bump. The 2.1 is back where it was after it got a bump from a big week. It hasn't shown yet that it can sustain the bump, but it also didn't lose any ground.

But I still think AE is being poorly utilized.

That's absolutely it. I want to see her with Vicki and Dorian. I care nothing for the Sarah/Christian/Antonio/

Talia-is-Carlo's-daughter

story. Why isn't she giving Todd some sh!t? I guess if I cared about Sarah. . .

Andrea's wonderfulness is being wasted.

David Vickers hasn't been back long, but in his first week or two he got to interact with Jared, Natalie, Viki, Dorian, Nigel, Clint, and Nora. (And within another week or two he also had scenes with Blair and Addie too) Pretty much everyone you'd exect him to get scenes with, considering his many many ties to the canvas. His return is part of multiple storylines: the long-lost Buchanan brother, the BE takeover, Viki-n-Charlie, now the Cramer women...

By contrast, Tina has only interacted with Ramsey (who's dead), some stuntmen, a new character named Jonas, and Cris and Sara. One week after returning, she's been involved almost exclusively with Cris and Sara, and only Cris and Sara. And judging from next week's spoilers, it doesn't look like she'll have any scenes with Todd, Viki, Dorian, or any of the other characters you'd expect her to interact with at some point any time soon. This is the very definition of a prop: a popular character returning to shore up a single, unpopular storyline (Cris & Sara). For this, they could have brought in ANY actress to play Tina, but they didn't... they brought in Andrea Evans, an actress who has played scenes with all of the vets. Call me stupid for expecting that AE would be working with Erika Slezak or Robin Strasser again... or Trevor St John or Cassie de Paiva or Tuc Watkins. I agree that the character of Tina should play scenes--lots of them--with her daughter. But she should also have lots of scenes with her sister and brother, just as much as David Vickers has had lots of scenes with lots of people.

David's return and Tina's return are two completely different animals. All of the people that you listed David as interacting with are all parts of the storyline that he's back for. They've been setting up for revealing him as the Buchanan heir since the day he returned.

Tina, on the other hand, is involved in a storyline where, A, she hasn't been in Llanview in years, B, she has some secrets that she's trying to keep, and C, she's only now realizing how important it is for her to get in the loop about her family. Given that Tina is in hiding, it would make no sense for her to be having scenes with other characters now. She chose to reveal herself to her daughter, and with the police looking for her, I don't blame her for wanting to lay low right now. The storyline wouldn't work if everybody knew she was back in town within a week of her being back in town.

And word to everything Vee said.

Thanks a lot for spoiling that for me. <_<

If it hasn't aired on screen, please use spoiler tags!

*sigh*

I guess that's what you get for not posting the ratings quick enough.

LOL I'll post the ratings sometime on Friday afternoon. I'm too tired to do them now. But if someone spoils another OLTL spoiler, I might be tired until Saturday? :P;) Hmm...maybe that's something I should do in the future. For every spoiler that's posted and doesn' thave spoiler tags, I will hold the ratings for an extra day. Hmm........

Glad Days inched up a bit, last week we saw a little improvement over the past month....And now with this current week, i'm finally really enjoying the show again (minus Chelsea/Daniel and the lack of a bope story)..And i'm not really surprised OLTL dropped, as they had huge increases the past couple weeks..Soaps usually can't sustain high numbers week after week..But the show is very exciting now, so i'm sure it will go back up in the coming weeks..

LOL! Nobody spoil Toups! Ya Hear!

ETA: In case it's not obvious, this me, rhinohide, shamelessly sucking up to Toups. So Toups, if you just want to lead with the OLTL dailies -- the rest of em can fend for themselves. <smooches>

I watched OLTL back when AE was first on, and this is exactly how I remember Tina. I never watched Passions, so I can't comment on Rebecca, but I don't feel like AE is out-of-character at all. This IS Tina. And as for not interacting with Todd and Viki yet, I think that's for dramatic effect: they know that Tina-Viki is the reunion most long-time fans will be looking forward to the most.

I agree this is the Tina I remember. As for the dramatic effect -- excellent point Shane.

After a week since her grand arrival, there's no sign of that Tina at all. Her sister's alone in the dark & her brother's off tormenting one of his rape victims again. Tina's barely even mentioned her siblings. She just heard about the tragic death of her niece's husband & she couldn't wait to get back to talking about herself
