How to Fix Y&R

 What?!

Even if Kay has ideas, Brad still has to agree with it. So it's his fault for agreeing/listening. Brad is the EP/HW/Master of the B&B universe and I can't just see him doing things he disagrees with.

So if you're going to blame Kay for what's wrong with B&B, you also have to blame your guy too.

I don't defend scabs. Never have, never will. And had you been reading my posts attentively, you would know that it's been a looooong, long time since I liked B&B.

I knew it, I knew it. :D

But I'm still in shock that Brad scabbed!! :o I hate scabs and scabbing!

I don't believe this at all.

It makes zero sense: B&B was totally different during the strike. The dialogue was B&B style but this was Jack Smith's wicked humor/camp affection. (not to beat a already dead horse; as I correctly assumed in February he was scabbing :P ) Yet the stories, plotting et al was very unusual for B&B. Rick & Taylor had a prelude, as had Nick & Karie - the tone of the show was very different. I could go on and on.

Brad wasn't writing this - as a viewers of B&B for half my life I seriously don't think so. He probably ok'ed some casting decisions (which there weren't many except for James' return which I guess was pre-planned) but that's about it.

Okay, this screen grab (from today's CBS online stream portal for Y&R) shows the problem.

week_screen.jpg

First of all, look at the headline pictures for the five full episodes:

- Lily (whom many hate), Heather (newbie), Katy whatever and Ivo whatever (WTF???), Heather and Adam (newbies), and Lily and Cane (whom many hate together).

Now, look at the recap pictures:

- Karen (newbie), Neil (okay), Katy whatever, Alistair (okay...could be John...but Alistair is hated), and Devon (some love, some indifferent)

Now, finally, look at the "clips" pictures:

- David Chow (whom many hate) and blindfolded Nikki, Gloria (whom many hate), Lily (whom many hate), Neil, Victor and Sabrina (a pairing many hate), and pauncy Alistair with half-naked Gloria.

What's wrong with these pictures? Overabundance of (youthful) newbies and characters who are not at the core of the show. Granted, these pics are fairly reflective of current front burner stories...but THAT IS A HUGE PROBLEM.

Where are Jill, Kay, Michael, Lauren, Paul, a full shot of Nikki, a shot of Victor, Nicholas, Sharon, Phyllis, Jack...I could go on and on.

The actors with the highest Q-ratings, the biggest historical connection....few of them are in true front burner storylines (I don't count Restless Style), and none of them are featured here.

This reflects the continued lack of balance in the show, the continued push of newbies the fans don't care about (without tying them properly to characters we love)...

For me, this screenshot in microcosm is what is wrong with the show. If we had episodes that let Jill, Kay, Michael, Lauren, Paul, a full shot of Nikki, a shot of Victor, Nicholas, Sharon, Phyllis, Jack, Brad, etc. be front and center...I think the show might be cooking again.

It's funny how Toups is accusing only (focusing his accusations on) Brad of scabbing when Kay scabbed, too. The only difference - she took fi-core. Scabbing is scabbin, with fi-core or without it.

Sylph has made it clear that he ashamed of Brad for scabbing, and he took his picture off. ;)

P.S. Guess who didn't scab? Need a hint.

Does anyone know when Hogan's work begins to air?

Most likely late June/early July. If he started earlier this month or late May that is. Y&R only shoots 4-5 weeks in advance, the last I heard.

I don't believe for one second that Brad Bell scabbed. I just find it incredible that you guys are so quick to believe this when you have absolutely no proof. During the strike B&B was written differently and Brad was still the Executive Producer of the show during the strike so of course he was still working at the show: as an EP.

Ahhhh, EastEnders. The GH of British soaps! I mean that in both the best and worst sense of the word. Two years ago, the show was a mob-infested, depressing mess. Haven't seen an episode since then, though.
