There are more than just "some" music changes, alas.

And scenes and chunks of episodes got hacked away too. I'm not sure if any full eps are missing; I've blocked the entire experience from my mind, LO

L.

I forget his name but Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth had the EP on after they didn't understand the 60s flashback episode due to the lack of original music. He felt that was one of his strongest episodes so he came on to explain to them just how much the music changes hurt the series. Basically, they only allowed him to pick a selection of episodes he felt the music was vital and other than that they didn't bother to save the music.

They kept music for prom and things like the Color Me Badd episode and for most of the musical acts but any music you loved from the opening of the show or just music played in random scenes was cut.

I know there are also some scenes cut but I don't know too much about that. The most glaring one was Clare's final scene being cut which is obviously a huge problem for a character who'd been around for so long. Overall I was able to enjoy my rewatch using the DVDs but without all of the original music it isn't nearly as good a show.

Personally, I felt that the deletion of the original music from the girls' slumber party episode, and the axing of REM's Losing My Religion from the ep featuring Brenda and Dylan breaking up, were the most painful. The changes really damaged those episodes.

I dropped the DVDs after season two, but I've been told by other viewers who kept going that tunes from all the seasons continued being replaced, and the situation only got worse as the DVD releases progressed. Yes, penny-pinching from those in charge was the principle issue, but I wonder how much better the DVDs would have sold if such poor choices had not been made in the name of cost cutting.

On the other hand, when Time-Life put out the Vietnam-war era classic China Beach, they dug deep into their pockets and ended up clearing the rights to a whopping 268 (!!!) of the original tracks. This represented 96% of the total. TPTB said that when they were not given permission to use a few of the remaining pieces, they substituted different singers' versions of the exact same songs, in order to preserve the show's integrity as much as possible.

The CB set was expensive as heck, to be sure, but to me it was worth it.

Well, the HD remaster seems to at least include all the episodes on streaming as a few markets (Sweden, Greece) seems to have gotten it. The bad news is of course that there's no OG music, but a small step in the right direction nevertheless...

I assume the reason why it seems like a slow rollout in markets is because they're trying to license it out to outside streamers before putting it up on Paramount+ so they can profit as much as possible from it.

This is interesting.

I live in Canada and get Crave. I wonder if the BH 90210 episodes will be the original, uncut versions with all the music intact. I doubt it, but I'll probably check it out.

Sorry I had a typo.  I posted Sept. 1, but it should be Sept. 19.  Fixed now.

I had no idea about the remaster until I randomly cut on an episode on Paramount Plus, first impression the show looks amazing! I thought we’d be stuck with those piss poor quality syndication versions forever.

Yes!  I'm so excited. I noticed last night on Paramount that ALL the episodes are there. The episodes that were previously missing throughout each season are now there, so I can finally restart my watch. :)

Wait, what? The show has been remastered? The DVD and syndication versions were of poor quality and badly edited (or, more accurately, butchered).

Could you tell if the original music was included in the remastered prints, or do we still get stuck with that dreadful musak replacement junk?

They are remastered in 4K UHD. I've seen partial episodes of the pilot and season two, episode one, and the picture quality looks outstanding.

I noticed Amazon has it available for purchase, but iTunes only has the HD version and not the 4K UHD version. The episodes cost $3.99 per episode on Amazon.

I haven't seen even a second of this show... but I heard about the 4K remaster... I don't know if it won't be too teen for me...  but maybe I will dive in and find out. I LOVE A GOOD REMASTER.

OMG - this was THE show for USA teens and 20-somethings in the 90s. You gotta get past the first season (like most - Melrose Place, etc), but once you do, it's worth it. Total primetime soap goodness.

I think I'll get a taste this coming weekend. Maybe something different will be nice... I just can't skip on a stunning remaster like this. I saw the trailer and I was like WOW... this looks breathtaking. If they do this for Melrose place (still one of my favorite shows of all time, the show that made me learn English while watching it)... I'll scream. ❤️

I'm glad that it's been remastered and looks outstanding. Now if the original music has been restored (as much as possible, anyway, with some serious effort made), the fans will be in ecstasy.

I was over the moon with how well Time-Life brought China Beach to DVD.
