I’ve read an article from 1984 that said NBC invested $12 million into the biggest and newest videotape production facility in the US designed specifically for a daytime drama. Bridget Dobson said that they had the largest and most exciting studio with sets that are unequaled.

I can see that because this soap has many different sets compared to others and also some very big ones like the Capwell house. Still, I wish it has more exteriors. It’s great when you watch scenes on location. It makes the show more realistic.

Yeah; you can tell, NBC was investing in this soap. Even in its final years, the remodeled Capwell set was still extravagant.

I'm enjoying watching Santa Barbara from the beginning even if it has some weak stories. Meanwhile I came across this video which is a summary of the plots of 1987, in my humble opinion, a great year, maybe it's peak. After 1987 everything was in decline.

I started over too. I'm loving it, even though it's the wrong CC. I even enjoy the kids in LA story. Augusta just cooked Tina the pigeon. Augusta and Lionel are at the Capwells. And it's all just great.

To be fair, 1988 was a mess because of the Writers' Strike, so "scab" writers wrote whatever the hell they could to have material on the air.

All shows suffered.

I'm not accepting this excuse anymore. The strike didn't start until March. This was after the TJ affair, so I have to say it wasn't ALL the strikes fault

R.i.p. And brilliant casting. Stella Stevens and Robin Mattson were perfectly cast together as mother and daugther duo.

Thanks. I haven't watched a great deal of this period. Do you think they should have kept her on longer?

Part of me wants to ditch the 900's and start over, too.

I think Phyllis added some comedy with Gina that was nice after Keith left. But they didn't do much with it ultimately.

Is there a time on SB where you just lost interest and you were never invested in the show again? For me, it was when Roberta Bizeau was let go. I thought Flame was such a good character and had great potential, and then the backstage stuff just ruined it. I would read summaries and watch the occasional episode after that, but I never returned it as a faithful viewer.

For me it was when Marcy Walker left.

I agree though, Flame was a great character.

I'm on episode 34. Jed Allan is the one and only C.C. Capwell for me, but Peter Mark Richman was quite good and now is out. Paul Burke, his replacement, is the worst. But it's interesting 3 Dynasty guys played C.C. Capwell (if we are counting Lloyd Bochner who was really the original C.C as we saw in the first promos from the first episode). Also I read Lloyd Bochner filmed a few scenes like the one in the harbor with Joe Perkins from episode 4.

Peter Mark Richman was my favorite CC from Santa Barbara 1984. Too bad they couldn't get him to continue.

I will never understand how Paul Burke was so, so bad on Santa Barbara. He wasn't like that when he was the lead in Naked City and 12 O'Clock High, primetime shows of the 1960s.

Well that was 20 years earlier. Maybe Burke was one of those actors that couldn't deal with the rigors of daytime, having to learn scripts quickly, not much rehearsal, multiple scenes in a day etc
