So, is Kirk Cranston to SB what Sheila is/was to Y&R/B&B?

I did know the character came back after his initial (longest) stay but I didn't realize he came back once more (after I stopped watching in 1989).  So, he came back a total of 3 times. This must be a SB record for a character return.  I don't actually know what happened to him after his final stay in town, so please don't tell me as I am planning on watching.  But then, again, they keep finding a way for Sheila to be back from the dead so many times, that it wouldn't surprise me that the TPTB would have found a way for him to come back again if the show continued past 1993. We know no one really dies in soaps!

As far as I can see, Joseph Bottoms was the only SB cast member to actually be born in Santa Barbara. 😊

Does anyone else think Sophia's breasr cancer storyline was too rushed? I feel like there should have been more to that. She had Mason change her will and he suspected something. He told her to call him later, but then it was dropped. I would have liked to see that fallout.

And when CC told Mason to stay out of Mary's marriage and admit he lost. Mason said he did, but not anymore. He should have said Mark beat up the hooker he hired and spends more nights at the porn district than with his wife. I mean really rub CCs nose into it.

CC needed his nose rubbed into his mistakes more. JA did a great job with subtle subtext and brought a lot of the softening of CC with his eyes. But sometimes words and a slightly slower pace is a wonderful thing.

I will say that the show dovetailed the return of Gina after the boathouse, the end of the Kirk saga and the beginning of Kelly and Gina and the tape PERFECTLY.

So I was bored the last few days, and I did some soap hopping, meaning, I watched quite a few episodes on YouTube from Edge of Night, General Hospital, As the World Turns, Another World, Y&R - the works - from various periods In the 80s and 90s. I finished off with the last five episodes of the current Sheila arc on B&B.

I'm telling you - nothing comes close to the quality of dialogue on SB from its golden age (late 1985 - late 1988). The amount of gems from this period could fill 10 prime time shows.

Whatever happened with Victoria? I missed some episodes between when everyone found out that Chip was Cruz’s son instead of Mason. How did things change with Chip’s custody to the point where Cruz and Eden became his primary caregivers?

I think when Tori left town in early 1989, she worked it out to let Chip stay with Cruz.

I'm surprised she last 2+ years on the show...I do wonder if there was a way to keep her on..without being the spoiler?

I think from what we saw, any character who wasn’t a Capwell or involved in their stories had a short shelf life. There were so many supporting characters who were on for a couple years and just disappeared

Victoria was addicted to "pills", after stringing Mason along, and creating a roadblock for Julia, the truth came out that it was Cruz's baby, and then she left town to go to rehab and gave custody of the kid to Cruz and Eden.  I guess she had that good Screen Actor's Guild insurance because apparently she either forgot her kid or stayed in rehab for the next five years.

Even years later when Cruz sent his kids to live with his family while he went on the run to protect BJ from being tried for murder (even though it was clearly self defense, and she had a father who was married to a wealthy family to pay for a good attorney) there was no mention of returning Chip to Tori.

Well, Tori was also a very unpopular character, so I'm not surprised she didn't last. The shocking thing was how long she did last.

No rehab this time. She went to Los Angeles to star in a new TV Series.

I love that we saw none of that 10 hours a week that Sophia was supposed to be doing community service! I suppose that would not have been great soap material

I agree with this. The dialogue is so quick and witty through these years. I love how Mary sees right through Mary. And I enjoy the early Mason and Julia scenes where he is upset with Julia because she isn't using her brain.

And how much Cruz loves that Eden is feisty. At one point, Eden takes off and Controlling Kirk is beside himself because he has to know where she is at all times. Cut to scene with Cruz, "I don't know. When Eden needs to think, she just takes off. I loved that about her."

And Augusta slapped CC. CC doesn't get slapped often. And his reaction of A bit high strung, isn't she?

I know that at times, I seem like I'm complaining because things are occasionally too rushed, but really that's just because I want more.

There could have been great things. Sophia trying to pick up trash while Lionel followed her around trying to give her pearls. Personally, I feel that when Lionel followed her into CCs coma room, she should have smacked him, kicked him out and laid beside CCs moveless body.

I was quite impressed with how they wrote Sophia's being in front of the judge when he suspended her sentence. She seemed genuinely sincere and ready to accept whatever punishment the judge was going to deliver. I don't know how much current law would allow something like this, but I believe she would have probably gone in front of a jury.

I agree. That was a very touching group of scenes. I'm not a lawyer, and I don't play one on tv. And every state has their own laws, so I don't know if you can waive your right to a jury or not. But I still say that wherever she's doing her public service, Lionel is there stalking her- er "being her friend".

May of 1986 was quite a busy time for the Capwells. Sophia was having her tumor removed, Eden filed for divorce, Kelly was killing pyscho Dylan, Mark was raping Mary. ALL on the same day! Golly, no wonder there wasn't time for anything else to happen in town.
