ATWT fans protest (Luke/Noah)

This whole thing keeps getting bigger and bigger.

There was a segment on Showbiz tonight about it, and someone Van's site was contacted by a woman name Cathi from Wetpaint who has contacts with Ellen, The View, Leno, and Lettermen that wants to get this story on those shows.

Here is the letter she got:

http://z13.invisionfree.com/vanhansis/inde...?showtopic=6926

Hi Natalie & Nicole,

You guys have made some great noise! And yes, it's still awesome and

very typical of the media to spin it to fit their needs so don't let

that set you back .

I'd like to help you guys bring it to the next level if possible.

Would you guys be willing to go on-air as the creators and

spokespeople of your site? We work with producers from all over,

including the nighttime shows like Leno and Letterman. I also think

we've got a good shot with Ellen. I've placed several clients on her

show as well as The View. With the topic what it is and the fact it's

on CBS is a little sketchy but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Let me know and we'll get on it!

Cheers,

Cathi

I don't know I could see this backfiring big time. There was a direct quote from Van on the kissing in SOW last week. Here is what he had to say:

"I've definately heard that people have been upset by the lack of kissing." affirms the actor. "I have heard from fans."

Do those fans have something Nuke-lear to look forward to? "There's good stuff coming up," promises Hansis. "I feel like we're all trying to tell this story as best as we can. CBS and Proctor and Gamble are being very supportive. The characters are still developing and coming along."

Luke sure has come a long way since giving Kevin mouth to mouth on a dock, which is what passed for a smooch.

"Noah wasn't drowning their first time!" laughs Hansis.

So he is saying the show has been supportive. I just hope that it doesn't backfire because I like Luke and Noah.

I'm dismayed that people I once respected call gay rights issues a "piggyback" on other human rights issues.

That wasn't what was said.

What was said was that it's offensive that white LBGTQ people constantly co-opt POC progress for the sole purpose of advancing their own causes.

Human rights are human rights. period.

No one's arguing that.

You know, I love Nuke as much as the next guy, but ... this is getting out of hand.

Based on what? Your opinion? Does one minority have a monopoly on human rights? You might want to talk to the ghosts of a few of my ancestors who were exterminated in Europe about 60 years ago.

And generalizing about a whole minority? Constantly? That's your word. What would you call that? You have bigger issues than I could ever address. Every minority benefits from the progress of every other minority, despite the interlockling prejudices that some feel so free to express. That's why we call it human rights.

I barely know who they are but the falsehoods and prejudices I see expressed here are distasteful at the very least.

I think this will totally backfire on the Nuke fans. Isn't it possible that the show could be backing away from the story because of the total lack of chemistry between the actors and because Jake whatever his name is, is horrible in the role?

That being said, I do scratch my head at the Family Group or whatever they call themself, protesting . Come on, soap operas have ALWAYS been about murder, sex, backstabbing, lying, cheating, stealing. Where have they been all this time when that was going on? Soap operas have never been about clean family fun.

I just think that the Nuke fans have made way too much out of this and the lack of kissing could be something as simple as wanting to back out of the story because the actors are so incompatible and one of them desperately needs acting lessons.

Based on what?

Whenever white LBGTQ people want to make a point they almost ALWAYS reference the CRM.

Does one minority have a monopoly on human rights?

No one said anything about having a monopoly on human rights.

But there HAS to be something said for the creation & continual advancement of the paradigm that subsequent groups have benefitted from.

You might want to talk to the ghosts of a few of my ancestors who were exterminated in Europe about 60 years ago.

About 600 years ago my ancestors were in a similar predicament. Only on a much larger scale.

And generalizing about a whole minority? Constantly? That's your word. What would you call that? You have bigger issues than I could ever address.

There are no generalizations being made but what would POC know about struggle, right?

Apparently that's the sole domain of non-POC too.

Every minority benefits from the progress of every other minority, despite the interlockling prejudices that some feel so free to express.

In a utopian society.

In an imperfect world for every Isaiah Washington there's a Don Imus or Duane Chapman.

I wish the NUKE fans every hope in the world. And if anyone else feels they have an issue that needs to be addressed, GET ORGANIZED LIKE THEY DID!

I'll happily support any grass-roots group that calls for more racial diversity on soaps. We need it, but like everyone else, I don't have the time or energy to start one.

Have not posted in a while, but some of the stuff in this thread has me kind of fuming. Like all of the comments that Nuke fans only care about what happens to Nuke and could careless about the rest of the show, Well that is the biggest load of [!@#$%^&*] I have ever seen. Seeing as Nuke fans talk more about the whole show during it, then any site on the web, they have a live thread everyday that has about 500 posts in it, even on non-Nuke days, and they are always discussing what could be done to make certain storylines better in those threads. Also Most Nuke fans have taken place in any campaign for the actors that have left, so again this notion that Nuke fans only care about Nuke is a bunch of [!@#$%^&*].

Just because fans care enough about how there couple gets treated does not mean they don't care about the rest of the show.

One of the main reasons why Nuke fans don't post on boards like this and other's is because of comments like that, and the horrid bashing of the actors and the boring stuff, I mean why should they part take on other boards if that is all they get. At first lots of Nuke fans wanted to discuss them and other stuff on the show on the boards, but then they got bashed daily for liking the couple, so most of them stopped, I can't really blame them. Bad enough that Nuke fans have to deal with Bigots on main boards, but then they have to deal with people and there actor bashing posts and they are so boring crap. I mean they might not be the most interesting couple ever, but some people act like they are the worst thing to ever be on a soap, and they post like that to.

I don't doubt that there are Nuke fans that support all aspects of the show. But there's no denying there's a huge number of people interested in Nuke that don't give a damn about ATWT. And there's a difference between bashing and honest criticism. Not supporting Nuke is just as likely to get you labeled a bigot, no matter what you say, or how carefully you say it.

Clint, Van's board is just as bad about bashing posters over there. You for one should know that. Thats why I stopped posting over there. I started a thread about Luke being with kevin instead of Noah and it got nasty.

And btw...here is the link to the CNN coverage of Nuke.

The girl from the Van board heard back from that woman. This Cathi chick is really serious about getting them on all these shows so much thats willing to pay their way:

Dead serious! We're going to pitch everyone as "meet the girls

behind...." Can you send me your best pic of the two of you (either together

or singular...doesn't matter) and any other details on fan reaction you

think is remotely interesting and any stats; i.e. How many emails you

get a day/week, etc.

You just talk about how great 'Wetpaint' is in any future interviews

and I'll take care of your travel. -smiles.

Looking forward to it!

Cheers,

Cathi

I don't think so. I suspect a great deal of Nuke specific ATWT fans would stop watching if Nuke left, so there is a no-lose outcome no matter how it plays out. If ATWT continues to genuflect to the hate mongers of the supposed "family values" crowd, then all that will happen is they'll turn the show off and find entertainment elsewhere.

I never watched ATWT before, but I now watch it on the Nuke channel on youtube. I am not alone in that.

Sounds like alot haven't been watching much since "Nuke" have barely been on. Alot more people will tune out for Martha/Lily's departure than for Nuke IMO...

I really resent how every intellingent conversation here at SON seems to turn into a heated debate at some point or another. And for some reason, people turn their heads or take part in it. Then, the debate turns into a big giant bash-fest until it's eventually closed. PLEASE, people! Learn to respect other people's opinions. You have them, we have them, they have them. You can see things from more than just one angle..it IS possible.
