They need to go traditional with this or a combination of a new HW matched with an old one like Jack Smith, Kay Alden or Trent Jones. I don't think they should take any chances like they did with LML. Y&R is a very unique show with a delicate history and it would suck for them to tank with their 35th year.

I don't know what I'll do if I see a McTavish or B&E listed in the credits.

My first and best choice would be Kay Alden.

If they couldn't get her, Natalie Minardi Slater, Janice Ferri Esser, Trent Jones, Jim Houghton are all good writers who have worked for the show for many years. Of course, they should keep Maria Arena Bell (if she wants to).

KAY ALDEN

Many people on the web dislike her for ONE story, yet she totally got Y&R and I found her years fantastic. With our without co-headwriter she's a teamplayer and will eventually collaborate anyway... So it really doesn't matter. Let me just stress I won't accept anybody out of the Bell universe as headwriter ever again serving as reason to quit Y&R for good. This LML tour de force burnt too many bridges...

Could Kay still be on board as at least Co-Head Writer? I know her having gone Fi-Core pretty much hurts her chances of any employment outside of B&B. However, if there was a main Head Writer who went on strike, couldn't that person hire Kay as their Co-Head Writer?

Anyway, you'd think that the person whoever made Sally McDonald a producer on Y&R, would also think to make someone or a team the new Head Writer(s) of Y&R who worked directly under William J. Bell and Kay Alden for a number of years.

Come on Sony, CBS, Bell, and Josh Griffith! Trent Jones and Natalie Minardi Slater as Co-Head Writers with Kay Alden or Jack F. Smith on as story consultants/consulting producers and possibly David Shaughnessy on as Griffith's Co-Executive Producer.

The is going to be a very anxious couple of weeks for Y&R fans...

Exactly. That was the problem with LML, the bitch just didn't get it or refused to get it. Good riddance to her, what a piece of [!@#$%^&*]! May she never write for a soap again! And that goes for all the hacks she hired too!

I think it's pretty universal that whoever the writer is MUST be from the Bill Bell stable. Natalie Minardi Slater, Trent Jones, Janice Ferri Esser, Jim Hougton (forgot about him!) are all excellent writers and would likely be fabulous on the show. I think Kay Alden is a necessity simply because she's been at the show longer and knows the show better than anyone else. Thanks to going Fi Core her HW days are pretty much over...but she knew that and so did the Bells. She took one for the team so hopefully she is rewarded with a consultant/consulting producer position at the show in addition to her AHW post at B&B. When Alden left Y&R in November/December 2006 that was the moment the show really fell apart because she fought like hell with LML and Hamner (who still hasn't been fired) and once her presence was gone the show tanked.

Y&R is a special show, it is a unique show. It ain't an ABC or NBC show, it isn't even a CBS show, it's a BELL show and it takes that special touch. As far as I'm concerned Maria Arena Bell can do whatever she wants at Y&R, having a Bell around is nothing but good for the show. I wouldn't even mind if Brad Bell had a producing gig at Y&R like Bill did. Y&R doesn't need to be changed...it needs to get back to how it was circa 1998.

Sony/CBS/Bell/Griffith/ANYONE WHO CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Please, don't eff up Y&R again. You got SO lucky with canning the bitch and how the show has rebounded, that was a fluke, it doesn't usually happen, just look at the rest of daytime!

Toups said in his article that more Y&R writers are expected to be fired, that can only be a good thing since they're all essentially Latham's friends, family, or pet dog....

I wonder what the Y&R writing team will look like when its all said and done, how many writers will we have? Aw, I'm getting very anxious...

Whatever they do, we need more Bell-era people!

I bet McTavish is dusting off her resume. I hope to god there are no former AMC behind-the-scenes people at Y&R or Sony that could faciliate even an interview. Have she and Griffith ever worked together before? Also hope that Sony isn't planning on transferring Hogan to the top spot at Y&R.
