Passions: CANCELLED by DirecTV

If PASSIONS moves to Oxygen, then I doubt the show's more supernatural elements will "survive." In fact, I can see PASSIONS-on-Oxygen becoming a straight-up, traditional drama.

Oxygen's yet another NBC owned cable channel that airs reruns of old female theme sitcoms in the day, in addition to chick flicks. They've tried airing original programing in the past in the daytime, but it's never been successful for them.

Remember when they tried airing Neighbours a few years back? They poor thing didn't even last five seconds on the channel.

That's okay, Toups. Everyone Freudian-slips every now and then. ;)

Yes, I doubt PASSIONS would survive on Oxygen. Aside from the 'net, though, where else could NBC try it? Bravo?

I hate to say this, but as much as I would love to see the show continue, It would probably be in everyone's interests to let the show go. Suppose it does get picked up by another network, who's to say it won't get cancelled again 6 months after that. I think it's time to just say goodbye to "Passions." I won't be happy about it, but I'm just glad this show was a part of my life for the past 9 years. I wish the cast and crew good luck in their future endeavors.

NBC hasn't had Oxygen very long. They just bought it from Oprah last month so who knows what direction they will take it in.

NBC owns a bunch of cable stations they can try.

If NBC is willing to fight for the show, there's a great chance for it to continue.

If NBC wanted it on its own cable networks, they would have done that in the first place instead of going to Direct TV.

I just hope Andrea Evans gets sick of this and leaves PASSIONS for good and returns to ONE LIFE as Tina Lord. She deserves much, much better than the crap that is PASSIONS.

What will constant network-jumping do for Passions that wasn't done for The Edge of Night or Search For Tomorrow?

That was 20-25 years ago. There's a lot more posibilities now.

Maybe DirectTV approached NBC with the offer and NBC took the deal. So now maybe NBC learned their lesson and will put the show on a cable channel they own.

There's still hope and that's what I'm holding on to.

Passions is not going to be a lead-in for Chris Matthews on MSNBC. Just about all the sand that will fall in that hourglass has fallen.

Well this sucks for Passions fans. While I am not a fan of the show myself(not because i dislike it, i just dont watch it), Directv didn't seem to care about the show. I think Directv figured this would get them more subscribers. Quite possibly these decent ratings they said Passions got were due to people who already had Directv, and new subscribers were few, far and in between. Personally, I am not one to switch a particular cable/satellite provider just so that I can see one show. So if Directv thought that this would happen, then they were really clueless.

I'm not completely convinced that it won't end up on the network that started it all, NBC.

Or worse, it'll end up following "Heroes" on Monday nights.

NBC bought Oxygen "after" Passions had started airing on DirecTV. Had they owned it earlier, they may have just moved Passions there when it left the network.

What supernatural elements? The greatest majority of that part of the show went away sometime after 2001. Sure, they currently throw a little of it in here and there, but it's nowhere near the way it used to be and I doubt it would make any difference to the show "surviving" on Oxygen. Even if they brought back the supernatural in a much greater capacity, I still don't think the show would hurt being on the Oxygen channel. Like someone said, programming on this network might take a different direction.
