Writer's Strike Thread

All I know is Y&R is much better (imo) than AMC or GH is. The writing is much more balanced. Vet's aren't used as much on Y&R as they used to be, but Kay, Jill, Victor and Nikki are getting a lot better treatment then Alan, Bobby, Opal or Palmer. Women are rarely baby obsessed on Y&R and the under 5 crowd hasn't over taken the show.

Anyway, CBS seems to be considering bringing Dexter to their line up because of the strike. Isn't that crazy? I hope they have a master dubber and editor around to make that happen. It is an awesome show though. It just belongs on cable.I think they would do better bringing The Tudors over if they are that desperate.

^ In addition, could someone possibly make a list of when the scab writers material starts on all the soaps? I know that the dates are probably spread somewhere in this thread, but I don't feel like searching through 49 pages. I only know that the scab material starts after Christmas on Y&R, but that's it.

I think there's different stages to the scab/fi-core writer's material.

1. When the scripts end

2. When the unedited scripts end

3. When the breakdowns end; breakdowns are usually weeks ahead of scripts

4. When the Head Writer's stories end

So when we say "material" we have those options.

Now I have no idea how it's going to work credits wise. Will script writers be credited until the edited-scripts finish or until the unedited-scripts finish? Will we see the script writer's names disappear before the breakdown writers? Will the HW be listed until his/her material ends? Anyone remember how the credits worked in 1988?

As a person who keeps track of the credits, you know I'm very curious to see how all this will work out credits wise. I'm going to have to do a lot of updating for the database! LOL

When the strike AWs showed in 2004, I don't necessarily remember the process of names disappearing from the credits, but I do remember that the first episode Lemay was credited for was obviously still a scab episode. There's all kinds of legal stuff that goes on meaning that credits will not necessarily reflect who wrote what.

More writers on Fi-Core:

Fran Myers (OLTL - Script Writer)

Garin Wolf (GH - Breakdown Writer)

Pete T. Rich (PSNS - Script Writer)

More info on Gary Tomlin and Josh Griffith:

Tomlin is interim Head Writer at OLTL

Griffith is interim Head Writer at Y&R

So, I take it Garin Wolf will be interim Head Writer for GH? Why?!

I'm quite surprised Wolf and Pete T. Rich went FiCore.

I wonder if Tomlin and Griffith will still be employed as writer's once the strike is over. FiCore really kills Griffith and Tomlin's writing careers though, and I can't imagine Guza keeping Wolf once he's back.
