I was just thinking the same thing.

For the shows I watch these days:

DAYS. It's picking up, so Hogan gets a B.

B&B. Hmm, difficult one. I like the show and the pace is as always good. C+(+)

ATWT. I think I'm about the only one NOT enjoying the Noah/Luke story. I just dont find it interesting and I've always found Luke to be kind of annoying. Instead I'm enjoying stories like the one with Carly. I want to watch the next episode and that has to be a postive thing. I give the writers a C+.

Yes they do get some very good scenes, and some very good individual episodes. However the overall stories suck though. Reva had cancer, and KZ was amazing during the sl, but overall the story sucked because it was used to basically break up Josh and Reva. CC was phenomenal when it was revealed that her character was apaprently raped years ago, however the overall story sucked bc DK didn't want to tarnish Jeffrey O'Neil's character. The only thing in which this wouldn't apply to would be GT's current story which the last time I watched, I was enjoying, despite the whole Matt/Dinah mess. I'm not questioning the actors capabilities when I give the show an F, but the writers. Sure DK gives the cast some very good material, but the overall story he writes for the characters are at times purely plot and contrived.

AMC: D, B&E have started up where that hack McTavish left off. What a dump!

ATWT: C, Meh. I don't really watch the show, but so many wonderful vets have been backburned.

B&B: A+, I am loving this show once again! Brad Bell + Kay Alden = Magic

DAYS: C-, Hogan is terrible...but John Black's death was fantastic. Best soap death ever.

GH: F, Guza, Frons, JFP = Disaster....I just hate GH now and I used to love it.

GL: C+, Kriezman has given it a shot...

OLTL: B-, Carlivati is a bit all over the place and he hasn't given Slezak or Strasser a fabulous story yet...but we'll see.

Y&R: F, Lynn Marie Latham and her band of hacks have taken a plot driven wrecking ball to what was once the gold standard of daytime. I hate this woman and she's making me hate my favorite show! Please CBS, SONY whatever...please fire her! Please! I'm begging you!

Days gets a B- from me.

When the vets are featured (a la John's death) and true drama is created, it reminds me of the good days. But then the following week, we are bombarded with the utter crap that is Stephanie and company, so that drops the grade significantly.

ATWT : A- / The only show that has the cojones to give us a gay love story full of respect and dignity, Maura West as Carly is doing an emmy award job,

GL : F / the show is a mess, s/l dropped and disjointed

AMC : D /it is all about the babies, it's the babies stupid!

GH: D /mob 24/7

OLTL: B - /Viki moving to paris, texas is a lot of fresh air ( A for that s/l)! Llanview is as boring as ever though (D for the rest)

BB: B / has improved a lot in the past couple of weeks

The only two I watch are Y&R and GL. I think despite everything, Y&R is still the best soap on daytime. I don't always agree with everything, but I'd give it a B.

GL on the other hand... this show is my heart and soul... it tears me up to see it in the state it's in now. I can only hope if there is a strike, that GL will bring in fans to write the material or let the actors (who know their characters) make up their own dialogue. After reading previews for the Thanksgiving episode, I wrote GL a very stern e-mail. I know it won't make a difference, but it made me feel better. :) DK has ruined every character whose last name isn't Cooper. In my opinion, the show gets a D, with the Coop/Ashlee coupling and the friendship between Billy/Lizzie being the only thing right now saving it from an F.

Technically Phoenix11, DK has ruined every character including the Coopers (some achievement for DK, while other writers have ignored vets, DK takes it upon himself to ruin both vets and fairly new ones). Buzz, Frank, and Harley have all made mistakes in their lives and yet DK destroys them by writing them as holier thou. I concur that Billy/Lizzie are the only thing worth watching for me.

Congrats to DK for ruining every single character on the canvas...that's something that not even Lloyd Gold or Ellen Weston has done.

IA, MichaelGL.

And I mentioned this in another thread, but thought it would be more appropriate here.

What's the deal with Donna Swajeski? She's co-HW on GL, and I have heard people say great things about her work on AW, so what's happening with her on GL? Anyone have any thoughts on her?

    • I hope for a multi-year renewal, too! This is the only show I've been excited to see the next episode in forever. Considering their demos are quite decent. the initial episodes showed there is still an interest in daytime, and it has helped to boost the rest of the soap line up at times, it should be around for a while.

    • I agree.  How many times did we have to watch Bobby vs. J.R., or Blake vs. Alexis, knowing that nothing would change at the end, and that everything would go back to status quo, so that they could fight the same, exhausting battles all over again?  If nothing else, I give FC and KL credit for trying to keep things fresh, even if I think FC, in particular, went too far in the other direction and became unrecognizable even to the most diehard fans. Exactly.  Plus, because viewers were so burned out by the kind of serialized storytelling that was beginning to affect even half-hour comedies, I think MSW represented a nice change of pace.  You didn't have to watch every week, or watch from the beginning of each season, to know what was going on with Miss Fletcher.  Instead, you could watch a complete story in one episode, de-stress from whatever had happened in your own life last week, gear yourself up for the week ahead, and be okay. If you notice, though, there were differences between those two shows and what Aaron Spelling had produced in the past.  For one thing, there was a greater emphasis on youth; and while characters on 90210 and MP certainly had more disposable incomes than the average viewer, their wealth wasn't as opulent as what we'd seen on DYNASTY or on "Hart to Hart."  Even the battles among Alison, Amanda, Billy and others at that advertising agency weren't as histrionic as those between Denver Carrington and ColbyCo.
    • I saw a conversation yesterday with Liam with the 7 dwarves hat and Steffy -  I know she did not say re: Hope and Liam said - well look at Finn and you forgave him right?      I know I did not hear Steffy say “well but you can’t compare that to…”  For *uck sake someone call the bitch out!?     You’re right, we shouldn’t compare your forgiveness for the dude with devil spawn seed whose daughter locked you in a cage along with crazy stepmom/mom/Grandmother who has also SHOT YOU BOTH - and multiple murder attempts but you have to exist with them / Hope’s part in a takeover which you know was FAR LESS THAN CARTER BECAUSE HOPE IS NOT AN ATTORNEY…. Goodness no, no the same thing at alllllllll.   When they do Steffy’s absence at least let it be because they all find out what a manipulative ho she is in her own right.
    • I think a lot of us still agree with that. I do hope that the resurgence in the soap world with Beyond the Gates will push ABC to either bring back these shows or produce a newer one.
    • So, this was fun. Elsewhere, friendly to polls, a poll on what do you want to see at the Nurses Ball. The Gio reveal got 18%, for Blaze to return & sing also got 18%, for Jennifer Hudson to do a cameo & sing got 10% and for Lucy to lose various parts of clothing got 9% but the huge one was the reveal of Drew/Nina sex which got a whopping 45%!
    •   I liked the effect of the curtains closing. Yeah it was like the end of Act I.   Or maybe they are simply trying to emphasize the drama of the end of an episode -- instead of a random abrupt end that has happened in some prior episodes.
    • I posted this in the behind the scenes thread but I know this thread is busier so wanted to mention it here as well. During their instagram live yesterday, Daphnee Duplaix and Trisha Mann-Grant mentioned that they will find out this month if the show is renewed for another season. Just a heads up so we can keep an eye out for an announcement and keep our fingers crossed for a multi-year renewal!
    • They haven't explained the ownership of the Bistro, but Doug told Holly the other day he didn't get the job there. Basically Roman just hired Doug on the spot and gave him a room.  It was really nice of Roman.  I don't know if he knows who Doug is or that he stole Julie's necklace.  That was unclear-at least to me. ETA-I feel like the Bistro might just die and people will just pretend to order food there like Leo did today.  Sophia is on bed rest so no one works there anymore.  They can use that set for something else.
    • I'm not sure how I felt about it, but I do kind of like that it felt like the show telling us this concludes the first chapter of the series. Could be interesting if they only do it for big aftermath episodes. The biggest mistake with Martin is that it's almost hard to buy his anger because we've gotten no strong scenes with him and his parents. They've all been with Anita/Vernon. I can't even remember him ever even saying one word to Nicole, even in passing.
