Yeah, it’s sad. I know Kei’s tennis career is way too lucrative (in terms of endorsements in Japan) to quit just yet. His sponsors don’t seem to be bothered that his performance has generally stagnated (he hasn’t made another GS final), as he’s still one of Japan’s biggest athletes.

And hey, he’s become a top 10 player again, which is better than 99 percent of players on the tour. He just can’t get past a Grand Slam QF. Nice work if you can get it when folks like Feliciano Lopez and Kohlschreiber and Simon are all still playing with not much to show for it in terms of big trophies or deep runs in majors so...

He just needs to be careful, as life is more than tennis, and he doesn’t want to live with debilitating pain for the rest of his life.

Play has been suspended for wheelchair matches due to the heat.

And close to being suspended for all other matches. Currently 39 degrees or 102F,  Expected to get to 84 overnight with a high of approx 105 - 110 tomorrow.

TO update

IT'S officially too hot to play.
The tournament referee Wayne McKewen has officially deemed that the head stress scale has reached 5.0, meaning play on outside courts is suspended and the roof of Rod Laver Arena is to be closed.

Petra Kvitova and Danielle Collins are waiting in the shade until the roof is fully closed, which should only take a few minutes.

All play on outside courts has been stopped.

Gee reading the updates, someone is not happy at all.

Collins fumes as roof closed due to heat

The heat stress reading has hit 5! That's a suspension of play on all outside courts, and it will lead to the roof being closed on Rod Laver Arena.

A smiles comes over the face of Petra Kvitova, because this will certainly advantage her now. Collins was thriving in the heat, and she's probably the only person at Rod Laver Arena who not happy about that one.

There's a huge cheer from the crowd, but Collins

John McEnroe made a comment on how he was too short for tennis.  He looks just like Stefanos minus the long hair and beard/mustache...LOL

I wonder what kind of game he has....

Gotta love the screaming going on between Petra and Collins.

Carlos Ramos is at it again and now with Collins....LOL

Naomi is the first woman to back up her maiden GS title with a final in the next Slam since Jennifer Capriati won the Australian and then the French in 2001.

She’s no flash in the pan.

She’s the youngest to make back-to-back finals since 20-year-old Ana Ivanovic made the Aussie Open final in 2008 (losing to Sharapova) and then won the French.

    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.  These episodes aren't consecutive, but if you ever have time, they are worth a watch. They are bits and pieces from January and April of 1979 - April in and out of prison, her past calling to her via her psychic powers (and the suicide of Miles' wife Denise, who had murder framing in mind). April 1979 has the end of Winter Austen (such a fantastic soap name).  I don't want to drop a ton of links but you can find playlists on Youtube.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
