Syler did not have breast cancer...she was at very high risk for developing it as both her mother and father died from it. Therefore she had to had annual tests that became increasingly more and more painful, disfiguring, and emotionally draining. So she made the decision to have both her breasts removed to drastically decrease the risk. Shortly before the surgery (like a few weeks or so) was when the sorry asses at CBS fired her. The entire story is told in detail in her book and subsequently in a heartwrenching episode of Oprah that had cameras following her throughout the ordeal.

Syler was my fav too and I would have rather seen the sour Hannah Storm booted instead.
