What I really should be doing is consulting the great resource archive Toups has here for this stuff LOL.

I think you are right. I think they were credited with co-creating it with Wendy Riche and wrote for the first few months before Lynn Marie Latham came in in what late 1997?

I just waited for someone to write the show was a farrago of boredom and triteness! I wish daytime executives got rid of all these superb writers... Hire someone new, someone younger than at least 30. Carolyn is OK, multiple times it was mentioned she was the one responsible for Hogans ‘glory’ days at As the World Turns, but that's it, I wouldn't give her a HW stint. Enough was said about Richard.

I guess Jill Hurst isn't gone after all.

GL:

- Jill Lorie Hurst first listed as Story Producer on June 11

Story Producer? Never heard of that. Is that like a story consultant?

 Poor DK.

Courtney Bugler continues to pop out the scripts at AMC. Perhaps that alleged "insider" info regarding her as being a relative of Megan's was another little tidbit that proved to be untrue.

Here's what a story producer does in reality television. This is a very common title in Australia and in the UK, so some board members from those parts can tell us in a greater detail what does the job entail (Dominic Treadwell-Collins is, eg., now a series story producer on EastEnders, and I believe he's totally in charge of storylines and script department). However, I know what a script producer is.

LMAO! Seriously! That "insider" said that not only was she a relative, but Little Miss Hot Mess had already written her last work as of August of last year! So... I totally wouldn't be surprised if Bugler wasn't a McTavish-in law at all!

But speaking of Hot Mess's dialog writing... Did you not HEAR that awful beach metaphor Ryan used with Annie on Friday!?? Ugh!

Oh god yes! That whole "beacH' scene just made me go WTF. I mean I do enjoy Ryannie... but that was just too much.

Proof that even without McT as a driving force Courtney is still in fact, a Hot Mess!

She wrote back to back scripts! Egads. What's next a week of Casey Child's unsteady directing? I'll take the pepto bismal now thank you!

Lord, have mercy, baby... here it goes...

RYAN: Well, you remember -- before we got married?

ANNIE: When you took me away to the beach.

RYAN:
That
is just geography. You see, that time where it was just you and me and the ocean -- we'd never had time like that before, ever, and it was just -- it was incredible.

ANNIE: It was amazing.

RYAN: And time like that is going to be hard to come by very often, you know, with children and exes and work and just life. Life happens, and most of it's good, but some of it is hard. And when it gets hard, people -- they're going to try to crowd us and try to push us off our beach.

ANNIE: So, steal some sand?

RYAN: Steal some sand -- Steal some moments. You think about it -- Each grain of sand -- you know, individually -- is very rough and hard and sharp and really not all that pretty, you know? But when you put them all together, you get this beautiful beach, this beautiful, soft, smooth beach. So I -- I guess what I'm trying to say is
when things get crazy, we just got to put together the sand, you know, take our beach back.
I love you, and I know that we're going to be able to stay on the shore. I know that no matter how rough the waters get, you just got to fight with me.

That entire last speech given by Ryan had me like  WTF?! "I know that we're going to be able to stay on the shore... no matter how rough the waters get..."

Um... if your ass is on the shore, what do rough waters have to do with anything? YOU'RE ALREADY ON THE SHORE!!!

That was just a horrible, horrible, horrible speech.

Yes, they did co-HW the great early months of PC, with work airing till about late September or early October 1997. After them came the first time Lynn Marie Latham ruined a soap.

wikipedia also credits Carolyn with co-HWing at GH too, possibly based on one of Toups's entries at SON, but I think that's wrong. I don't remember seeing her name in the credits.

The Cullitons also were on staff together at AW in 1984-1986 and in 1998-1999, with Richard headwriting for part of the time in both those stints, but they were not co-HWs.

A new headwriter under 30? Interesting idea, Sylph. But David Kreizman is kind of like that, and some people constantly bash him in part because of his youth.

    • They’ve been really nailing the fall out super well and your whole post really highlights some of the great parts and ramifications we’re seeing.
    • I like that this episode highlighted the ramifications of what Eva and her rotten mama did. They were so focused on Ted and Nicole, not even realizing that other people would be affected. Eva thought nothing of what she did to Mona bc she was sure no on would hold anything against her but Mona is right in that they ruined her reputation with the Duprees. They dont blame her but they will likely never trust her judgement again. She has to walk by them feeling the guilt and shame that she'll never live down bc she unknowingly played a role in the hell that was unleashed. Not to mention the trauma and trust issues she no has bc she genuinely viewed Leslie as a friend   And poor Laura nearly died when she had that car accident and then had a heart attack and infection bc she was poisond. She's been recuperating for 3 months. She missed her trip to Hawaii and no idea what impact this has done on her relationship and her own plans but no on was thinking about that.   Eva and Leslie need to be made to feel like ish bc this was bigger than just Ted and Nicole

    • Understand your point.  But I usually see Reginald's mustache twirling villainy as ultra campy bordering on comedic (albeit unsuccessfully).  And upon Reginald's exit, most of the overt camp/comedy seemed to cease. And although I'm aware camp and comedy are not exactly the same thing, I tend to throw them together anyway -- especially when discussing soaps.  You are correct, Mary was not played for laughs.  When I used to term "let's play everything for laughs" I didn't mean literally everything or every character was comedic. But TPTB put so much effort into comedy, it did tend to eat the show for a few years (again not literally). I'm just expressing my perspective on the topic, and lots of folks probably disagree.  That's cool. People who like comedy on soaps tend to defend it, and folks who don't like comedy (or think it want too far) tend to criticize it.  Whichever side of the fence one is on, it sure didn't help the ratings on AW.
    • Nope, it was not just you, I had the same issues. Most either disagreed with me, or just ignored my comments. But, I most definitely would have liked for them to take another route, even to add sheer variety in the storytelling. It is what it is, the story is a hit with the fans...
    • You may be a casual watcher, but you got SO much right.
    • I've been eagerly awaiting Kate's first episode under the new writers, and I wasn't disappointed. I started reminiscing about all of Kate's misdeeds when she said how good of a liar she was and how she saw right through Roman's lying. I really buy this matured, but still wise Kate in 2025, and the fact that you know under the right circumstances, the more ruthless side is always there, under the surface. Hopefully, with Roman about to confess, we get the full truth about just what the hell happened with Johnny the night EJ was shot, then all the major suspects will be eliminated, just for the writers to throw in that wrench that's waiting for it's time to shine. Everytime Brady thaws even a little bit towards Kristen I immediately get concerned. I was entertained by their fight, and it was smart to mention Kirsten having no friends, let alone positive female relationships except for Lani in regards to why Rachel is such a loser. As a viewer, do you think Stacy Haiduk as Kristen was at all thinking about her former friendships with Jennifer and Billie in that moment? I wonder if she's even aware that they were, or who Billie even is. Anyway, I do wish Kristen could have also thrown in Brady's face that he's literally the biggest slut in Salem. Rachel seeing and possibly hearing about him going from woman to woman would also negatively affect Rachel's negative ideals about women, and possibly her own self-hatred. I thought Doug's favourite class being English lit was a good through line from how impressed he was with grandpa Doug's poetry book to Julie. Hearing he dropped out because no one at home cared just made me yearn for more information about Charles LeClair as a father and person. Maybe it was this time that Robert LeClair was dying so Charles was distracted and it all fell apart after that? Alex with Kristen today is the most interesting I've seen him written. He was smarmy and cold and for a quick second looked like he was enjoying playing with Kristen clearly throwing herself at him, but when she dropped her facade he became merciful, but still unwilling to budge. He would have fit in well in the more complex 70s era as a cad with a heart underneath his bravado. However, and I can't stress this enough, I absolutely despise whenever he calls Philip, 'Phil.' It just itches my brain in all the wrong ways.
