SOD Best/Worst 2006

Every soap is represented equally here IMO. So GH didn't get more love over another soap - they got some 'Worsts' like everyone else. I think you're just upset it won best show....which IS debatable I agree...but you said 'Oh Lord' to all the GH love, yet you pretty much agree with all the GH choices - except the best show.

I didn't exactly agree. I said I could see why they chose them but they didn't have to since there were better choices. Yes, I am upset they won best show. The weren't consistent enough for best show. Lulu's abortion was alright but poorly written for the most part. The virus was nothing but a gimmick with the exception of Tony's death episode. The returns were botched up and if it weren't for Laura's goodbye scenes her return would've been a wreck.

Y&R had about 6 good months and while right now it is boring it is still better then GH. Same goes for ATWT. Hell, I would give it to GL before GH. At least they are a bit more consistent and offer good solid drama a good deal of the time even if some stories I can do without.

SOD has a history of bias with GH, Y&R, and Days but the GH article basically talks alot about Genie Francis so I think this all but played into the hype of her return which has had SOD and SOW practically jumping through hoops for weeks.

Some serious money and butt kissing must have happened in some backrooms at SOD for some of these choices. And I think that the beginning of Zack's story was great.

The rest sucked.

My sentiments exactly. The Spencer for best villain one perplexes me as well.

Oh shoot Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott, Y&R) AND/OR Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters, Y&R) hands down should have got Most Entertaining Character.

As for Biggest Waste of Talent there are countless choices there...Jess Walton, Eileen Davidson, Greg Rikaart, Elizabeth Hubbard, Jacklyn Zeman....

Bergman or Rowell would've been fine choices/ I also would consider Rex from OLTL. I always enjoy him even though the show is bad right now and despite Adriana ruining him for me a bit.

Your right alot of choices for waste of talent. There are many vets from AMC and OLTL that fit into that category as well.

Oh yeah definitely Jack Abbott for most entertaining character, I'm totally hooked on that man, also Rex from OLTL and Henry from ATWT would be great choices as well

Well I see that there were 3 shows that were consistent enough to win it - GH, Y&R & ATWT. They all have equally the same amount of consistent months. I think as far as excitement and pure drama of course Y&R and GH out did ATWT this year. So I think either GH or Y&R would have been a good choice this year - considering that all 9 soaps were way off their ball game this year. Earlier it seemed a shoe in for Y&R to be names Best Soap but they have lost a lot of ground lately, and GH has picked up some. So I have no problem with it at all.

And Phoenix if you will read my post I was not implying that you had problems with the list because of Days - I merely asked you the question if that was it. And the only reason I did that was because when SON did their awards which were for much of the time frame that many of us admit Days was bad but enjoyable to me during, you felt they deserved a lot of awards for that period. So that is the only reason I was asking.

I think SOD did an okay job with the list. There are some that I think they could have made another choice on, but I see their choices on just about all of them.

SOD did say they were initially going to call a tie for Best Show. I'm thinking that may have been Y&R, they don't say.

And for Most Improved (PAS) and Disappointing they did say they were torn between judging the shows against their own history or against every other soap. And while Y&R's ratings are great, I wouldn't call the programming they're showing now an improvement from Y&R's Bell formula - different, still keeping an audience - yep. Improvement? That could be argued, a lot of the cast of Y&R doesn't seem that comfortable with new recipe Y&R. I actually bought their pick of PAS with the way they explained it. DAYS got a nod to improvment with the nod to Sheffer, etc...

If Zack's death was the best storyline on daytime television in 2006, the genre is in a sorry state. Yes, it gave us 2 weeks of great acting. But the actual story rapidly went south. It degenerated into little more than a tacky JER quad.

Best Story- Zach's Death, Days

Dont think so.this was just another JER gimmick, that while we did get some great acting this "story" turned into nothing else but chelsea and the Bo/Hope/Patrick/Billie story.Yawn..

Yep, and the beginning of Zach's Death was the best thing on Days this year. They so blew it.

Sorry Steve.

It just seemed like you were implying something.

I see your point but those awards were different. The categories were different and things are different now as far as my thinking goes. The list isn't terrible but there are some "WTH?" ones on there.

Thanks for that info Rugrat. It helps knowing they were at least conflicted. I remember one year when they had a tie they listed both shows as Best Show in the magazine. I would've liked that better but whatever it's only their views.

I still don't understand why they measure most disappointing and most improved like that. They either are or aren't. They got it right with AMC but Passions for most improved is really hard to see.

I think their Best Story pick was an attempt to get DAYS some Emmy nominations finally because they spent most of the last paragraph on that talking about DAYS hopefully finally getting some Emmy nominations. Definitely wasn't the best story. I probably would have gone with Y&R's Victor story for Best Story.

On the Passions pick, here's some of what SOD said...

Once agonizingly slooooow, stories have accelerated.

Beloved characters who'd become one-note have evolved.

Theresa showed interets in somebody other than Ethan.

Sheridan developed an edge. Luis quit waiting around for her.

Kat ditched his dishonest stalker tendancies.

Made changes without losing its distinctive edge.

I was thinking to about Lumi as Best Couple. I know some said they didn't agree with that one. I do.

When a couple even when not together can take in the midst of bad writing make you still see them as a couple then they have something special and that is what Lumi did all year.

I was one that liked Sami with EJ too, but even in the midst of JER's bad writing and trying to make you root for Sami & Austin and Lucas & Carrie - and many saying it was a Carrie/Austin story. It wasn't Lumi stole that story. No longer were you rooting for Carrie/Austin as it used to be - now the rooting couple for many was Lucas and Sami. And their love for one another shown through all that. I think of all the couples in the midst of the bad writing on Days this year, they were the ones that really accomplished that for me.

So I have no problem with them being chose Best Couple even though they were apart this year.

And on another not on the Laura Wright as Best Recast. I know there were some other choices but I think Laura Wright is a great choice there. She took a character that I could no longer stand and made her likable again for me. I now love her and love to hate her many times and even sometimes at the same time. She is wonderful, and I am so glad they chose her.

I don't know what should've been best story. Zack's death was good in the beginning but then kind of fell apart. Many stories this year were like that so I don't think there was a clear great story. I don't think Days should've got that though.

It is interesting you sat that Rugrat. I wonder if Days or Hogan put them up to it because I don't remember SOD ever trying to campaign for a show to get nods but I may be wrong.

Steve I agree with your assessment about LUMi. That is an excellent way of putting it. I think Wright is good so I won't argue there.

Thanks for that Passions info Rugrat. The only reason they cite there that I agree with is Theresa focusing on someone other then Ethan but did they forget that Passions went back to ET repeatedly? The rest is BS. There has not been any character evolution. Kay has evolved a bit but now she is wishy washy and Sheridan is getting more then an edge. They are ruining her but whatever.

Thanks, Roman. That is AMC's little Spike when he was more little (I should say she, the kid is played by girls). I hide my bitchiness behind the super-cute avatar, no, no I'm super-cute also ;)

Oh if you guys want to blame somebody for SOD not putting the TWO shows they were stuck on for Best Show on the list, which they were planning to do initially, they gave a name: Mike (Mike Bruno? Probably)

Classic AMC. First Miranda is played by two boys, now Spike is 2 girls.

I cant beleive Abbots got most rejuvenated family when the show ahs the Winters who really did deserve that honor. They went from backburner hell to frontburner material
