The ratings for Laura's return is TERRIBLE news, but I expected this. The only reason this worked is because of Genie Francis and the other actors. Because they used another sweeps stunt and the ratings paid off, there won't be any changes. This is how it will always be with this team at GH. Crappy all year around, then they do a big sweeps.

Glad to see the high ratings for ATWT and Y&R seems to be doing well as well with those 4.6's. Tuesday and Wednesday are shocking, but the other days totally balanced it out. I guess Carmen's murder mystery is doing well for them, hopefully the ratings stay high.

B&B is also doing well, which is shocking since the show is still pretty bad, IMO.

I agree! All the hype surrounding Ms. Francis' return and they only managed a 2.7 is sad. The newness of her return is going to lose stream quickly, GH will be back at their respectable mark of 2.5. I'm happy because I hated the fact that Fronsie and Jilly Willy (both DISRESPECTED this incredible woman 4 years ago) would get great numbers by using this amazing woman.

ABC Soaps are pathetic and Fronsie needs to be replaced IMMEDIATELY!

Y&R's "who done it" is A BILLION TIMES more popular than the return of Luke and Laura. hmmmmmmmmmm

I don't see where GH has good news at all - a 2.7??? PAHLEASE! I think next Thursday will be telling - let's see if they can keep that 2.9 audience into Monday and Tuesday for this week. Considering Luke and Laura have only been on TWO DAYS so far, the rest has been SSDD.

It's pretty sad that Genie's return is pulling a 2.7 and they can't break into the 3's.

With all the promo, including The View in the middle of November, I think they will make it into the 3's. B&B has been having a surprise resurgence, so it might not be able to pass that.

Still, it's just so disappointing! Rumor has it they were looking at Jack Smith and while he made a lot of mistakes at Y&R, I think he could revive GH and give it a new vision. Thats what they are in most need of a fresh new vision. I'd be willing to give almost anyone a chance at this point.

But we can forget it now. :(

Loving that ATWT is doing so well in the ratings. I just hope so much they keep it up.

And I am also happy to see that looking at the numbers and doing my figuring, GL has now tied AMC. They both have a 2.34 according to the numbers listed there.

I will be so glad to see the final rankings and see if I am right on that.

Last Thursday and Friday were so good on GL and I am glad to see they beat several shows that day. From what I can see on Friday they tied with OLTL, and beat Days, AMC, and Passions - putting them up to 6 in HH's that day.

Too bad that Wednesday's rating was so bad for GL because Wednesday was the best show of the week. But the momentum evidently helped because they went to 2.5 and stayed the rest of the week.

WTG ATWT and GL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am happy for Genie Francis but am unhappy about GH - and that is all I will say about that. But I am loving seeing her again.

To me B&B and Y&R were both very good last week. I am glad the ratings are showing it. B&B is hurting in many ways, but the Stephanie/Jackie stuff has been pretty interesting.

Ratings are better, yes because of a stunt, but the stunt didn't extend much to OLTL and AMC, who are still in 2.3/2.4 range. Even with Laura's return, it wasn' t a clear shot, but tied with ATWT --which DOESN'T have a stunt to recommend it much right now that I can think of (not like the storm or the stalker).

I recall hearing he has offers from GH and B&B, not too sure about the GH one, but I believe it was posted in Spoiler Island.

The ATWT is very shocking. The Perfect Storm and Raven Lake stories gave a big boost and I'm guessing more of those people are sticking around these days. They have been doing the Halloween Gala, but it hasn't been promoted at all to my knowledge. Maybe Craig's return is what is getting people tuned in? I'm just glad such a great soap is getting the attention it deserves again!

ZaraB - as to ATWT, the storm might have been sort of like a stunt, but the stalker was a whole separate storyline, and not a stunt at all. That story ran all summer long. Stunt's don't run that long.

I see the storm as a stunt in some ways, but the storm was more of an "arc" or "plot point" as it was used to move all the stories along at one time, and it did. It wasn't dragged out for a month or anything - just a few days. It brought stories from one point to another, and was used to reintroduce Craig Montgomery to the show.

I think we are getting to the point (and I blame ABC for it) that anything special the soaps do is a stunt, but not all things are stunts. Such as I even saw someone refer to Stephanie pushing Jackie off the railing on B&B as a stunt. This was a plot point. But as I said anything that boosts the ratings just a little for any show now if referred to as a stunt, but it is not always so. It is going to get so bad that even a murder mystery like Carmen's on Y&R will be referred to as a stunt.

I am not attacking you ZaraB - just stating all of this here as your post made me think of it.

I would be interested in what others think, but to me a stunt is more something like a special return (esp. set in a sweeps month) that is not intended to last long (i.e. Finola Hughes, Genie Francis, Arlene Sorkin on Days, etc.).

A month long story that only happens during a sweeps month (the virus story or the trainwreck on GH definitely qualify).

An appearance by a popular star or performer is more of a ratings stunt to me (i.e. Clay Aiken on Days, the reality stars on some of the CBS shows, and many many others could be sited here, etc.)

A catastrophic event (esp. set in a sweeps month qualifies) - (i.e. ATWT's ice storm; OLTL's tornado; AMC's explosion; etc.).

Sometimes big parties or balls (not normally held) can be those too, but not always. Sometimes these are just plot points too, but can be ratings stunts.

I for one don't see the culmination of ongoing stories as a ratings stunt, even when they happen during a sweeps month. Soaps have been doing this for years. I guess they were a ratings stunt in the beginning when someone thought it up, but to me it has just become part of soap opera viewing. You just know that certain stories are going to stall out for awhile, and reach a new point or conclude during a sweeps month.

Anyway just wanted to issue my thoughts here.
