His last season on SVU was Season 12 (2010-11). He left when contract negotiations fell apart during hiatus, and hasn't been back for any guest appearances as yet. Maybe that will change now that Mariska has become one of the show's producers since this season began. If anyone can coax him back for a return gig, it would be her.

Could it have been any more obvious that they were channeling Lindsay and Dina Lohan on tonight's episode? Lookalikes and sound-alikes, the both of them. I'm almost surprised their real names weren't used. LOL

Is anyone else surprised that SVU has been renewed for next season? So far, this season has been a mess. As much as I love her, MH has to share some of the blame because she's part of the crew now as a producer and occasionally a director. Olivia just isn't believable as the head of the squad - they should have gotten a new CO. Of course, I still miss Munch, Cragen and Huang. But as long as Barba is still around (who has given the prosecution part of the show a huge boost since the revolving doors of ADAs a few years back), I'll keep watching. Also, no matter how much of an annoyance Carisi often is - he still isn't the worst cop SVU ever had. That distinction still belongs to Chester Lake!!!

Sadly, I agree. It isn't that Olivia is incompetent as head of the SVU squad, per se -- because, on the face of it, she isn't. But...I don't know...it still feels to me like she's just filling in until Cragen returns (not happening, I know) or until "One P.P." assigns the new head.

Frankly, I wonder whether it's time for MH to leave the show. They have Rollins, Tutuola, Amaro, Barba and now Carisi (who is growing on me, believe it or not). All they'd need is a new SVU head -- preferably someone from one of the other L&O shows -- and they might have a pretty solid program.

Are real-life sergeants COs? I thought one had to be a lieutenant or captain to be a CO (as has been seen here and the mothership with Cragen, the mothership with Van Buren, CI with Deakins/Ross, etc.).

I wouldn't really want to see Olivia leave, as her friendship/chemistry with Barba is one of my favorite parts of the show. However, it does seem that Benson's collective heart really isn't in it anymore now that she has Noah - and I have a feeling that this season finale will have something to do with him and the adoption.

Also, I really wish they would show Munch in his capacity as investigator for the DA's office. I'd love to see him assist Barba in a few cases. Bring back the Munchkin!!

I am not surprised at all. It's ratings are very steady and NBC doesn't have much room to be choosy. Not to mention it holds strong in the very competitive Wednesday at 9 timeslot. With the juggernaut Empire and still strong Modern Family there it's best that NBC leave a reliable utility player like SVU there and focus on improving their abysmal Tuesdays and Thursdays

Apropos of nothing: I believe Barba has a "thing" for Carisi. He might insult the guy, but I think that's just his way of covering his real feelings. Trust. Watch.

So, Amaro's gone. I can't say I'm surprised by his decision to retire from the force and start fresh in California. I feel like the writers probably wrote him into a corner -- if such a thing is possible in the L&O universe -- and that they acknowledged as much by having Tucker from IAB tell Benson that the department would never promote him given his record. Plus -- and I'm sure most, if not all, would disagree -- but the more I watched Danny Pino on SVU, the more I felt he was just repeating his old role on "Cold Case." I've always felt casting him after coming from another procedural was not a good idea; and whether they finally realized that or not, and whether Pino is leaving of his own accord or the producers just feel it was time for a change, the point is, I actually believe the decision to write him out was a smart one.

Now, Mr. Wolf, perhaps you could look into hiring a new female to join the squad next season? And maybe -- just maybe -- she could be an AA or Asian-American? Let Olivia take a more administrative role as the head of the squad, thus giving her more time to raise Noah; and give either Fin or Amanda a new partner to work with while the other continues showing the ropes to Cousin Oliver -- I mean, Carisi. Oh, yeah, and get a better actor to portray the ADA. Making Raul Esparza the first male ADA in SVU's history was a nice touch but...I dunno...he doesn't seem all that electrifying as a performer.

Bring back Alex Eames!!! She guested on SVU a couple of times after CI bit the dust. She's already a LT, so that probably won't happen since Liv will probably take and pass the LT exam. But we can dream!! Benson and Eames would be like the L&O universe's Cagney and Lacey. LOL

I think Danny Pino chose to leave, and it's quite possible because of burnout. His 4 seasons on SVU were almost immediately preceded by 7 seasons on Cold Case, and it seemed that Amaro was basically the same as Scotty Valens. Maybe they should have made him an ADA instead, just to shake things up a bit. Plus, he lives in LA so he doesn't have to do the commute to NYC anymore.

I love Raul Esparza and Barba!!! He really is a very charismatic performer, but the material he was given this past season was very thankless. Probably his best courtroom scenes this year were in "Pornstar's Requiem", which aired in October.

Your description of Carisi as the show's Cousin Oliver is too funny - and so true. Even his co-workers shoo him away like a gnat.

They really need to get new writers for Season 17 or just call it a day. They haven't done anything the past few seasons that they haven't done better before.

Don't get me wrong, I happen to enjoy Carisi...but I realize how annoying he can be to many fans.

At this point, I'd much rather see SVU end than bring in another writing team. Warren Leight brought in a little "fresh air" but I think he fell into the same melodramatic trap as his predecessor, Neal Baer. It just can't be easy to keep a series about sex crimes from growing stale and repetitive.

Very true. I don't know how they've kept going as long as they have. Actually, Carisi doesn't bother me too much - the one SVU detective I absolutely couldn't stand was Chester Lake. He and ADA Kim Greylek still go down in my book as not only the worst characters in SVU history, but among the worst in the entire L&O universe.

    • Am I the only one who hates how this show treats Claire? She's a glorified extra This girl comes from stock the granddaughter of the shows 2 biggest supercouples and they treat her like she's a throw away. Her pop pop is dying/dead and her other grandpa is saved awoken from his coma, alive because of the selfless heroic actions of her maternal grandpa

There is no reason why she wouldn't be here to say goodbye. Olivia Rose isn't doing anything I bet she love to come back and say goodbye. I just don't understand the motivation & thought process when it comes to some decisions. This show is probably still salty about how they didn't succeed in trying to assassinate Claire, on the alter of her dicktimized bird brained aunt & her serial killer boyfriend/husband with the audience.  Also unless they're keeping it under wraps Sami not being back in time to say goodbye to John is a huge fumble. If it had to do with Ali availability then they should've pushed back the fallout of Johnny learning about his sperm donor raping his mother and the subsequent confrontation with Elvis & Sami to conceded with John's coma & death so Sami/Ali were here for it. It's just a huge piece missing from this. As much I hated Sami's overdramatic looney tunes treatment of John long after she was in her 30s, became a grandma, her & John had one of the best dynamic complex heartbreaking father/daughter relationship's on both daytime and the show. It would be full circle as John's end of watch nears, that Sami apologizes for her treatment of him & admits she does love him. He was just as much as a father to her as "Roman", in a impossible situation that turned everyone lives upside down(The 2 Romans, Roman Intitial Death, The Affair)through no fault of his own. How fitting if she called him dad one last time & how thankful she is for his unconditional support and love. He squeezes her hand one last time, calls her Samantha and finally let's go after hearing the words he spent decades longing for in my eyes
    • So around '84 is when things get bad?
    • There are details through the thread, but yes, as mentioned, she hated Ellen Wheeler, and lambasted her for crying a lot, for her decisions with firing and Peapack, etc. Back in the day she also hated Pam Long, who created Reva and gave Reva all of her best material. The producers or writers she liked most seemed to be those who saw Reva in the most generic of molds, although she likely doesn't see it that way. She was OK on OLTL; I think @Vee could probably give a better summary. She was earthy and added her usual hard work to some trash material. There was nothing special going on, as yet again with patron saint Carlivati it was all plot, no character, and he cared more about writing for a cutesy child character.  You're right about what they could have done with Reva. Reva, Erica, and any women who are in story long enough face this problem. The biggest difference is Reva was allowed to age (even with the post-menopausal baby), which Erica was not.
    • Cali was the only Paulina for me on AW.  Was Judi Evans such a “name” that Cali was fired for her?  Judi basically played an entirely different character.  She could’ve been Nancy!
    • They were great together. Barbara was way too high maintenance for any man. You know Henry divorced her a$$ after about a year.  And, here’s an example of what I was talking about…
    • I watch every day as well, and I am enjoying the show. There's always room for improvement. TBH, things are much different from what I expected reading the character breakdowns. That could be a good thing! I'm willing to let them find their groove and figure out what kind of show it wants to be. The core and underlying theme. -I echo what a few others have said: The show is lacking in real romance and cross-starred lovers. But that tracks from (MVJ) experience cause the bell soaps are not good with romance IMO. -I have a feeling it's being built before our eyes, but we're missing that rival family. -I would prefer more variety of storylines. Good ones that could weave together the whole town.   -I struggle connecting to the male characters. So I hope they get a clear handle on them soon. Most of them feel underwritten and one-note. -Find a better purpose for Naomi. I fear she will be the first Dupree dumped. I completely agree. June's story does nothing for me. And what if she turns out to be Tyrell and Samantha's mom? They are very close to leaving high school. why should I care? If she turns out to be related to Hayley also, what's the long-term story, and why should I care? I believe Hayley can work on her own as a vixen. Does she need a sounding board? Sure, but you can accomplish that with an outsider's friend group. I didn't think I would be saying this, but I would entertain Kat having a forbidden affair with Jacob. Both Naomi and Jacob need something to do other than case-of-the-month storylines.
    • That would really just be a redux of the Leslie/Eva story. I really hope they don't go there. My guess for the storyline with Anita that we have "never seen before on daytime" is that it may be a "me, too" story. Anita did unspeakable things to get ahead because of some disgusting producer, and the other person she left behind was a boyfriend who cared about her very much.
    • Reva and Zimmer needed strong adversaries/scene partners. It would dampen the negatives associated with the character and Zimmer's self-admitted excesses. I think that's why she was a bust on SB. I don't know how she did on her return to OLTL because I was not watching at that point. The problem for me with Reva is the same situation with Erica Kane. It ended up being variations of the same storyline year after year. I think if the show had truly broken up Reva and Josh and put them in other viable relationships it would have freed up the characters to have better storylines and character growth. Instead, it's as if the characters were stuck for decades.

And I know I'm not ready and have not been since the official news. That was my first couple on that show. You won't be alone.    When you put it like that...same. Like I say in the thread when I'm more interested in what people are wearing than the stories...red flag. No momentum. Just stalling.      lol.
