Members amybrickwallace
His last season on SVU was Season 12 (2010-11). He left when contract negotiations fell apart during hiatus, and hasn't been back for any guest appearances as yet. Maybe that will change now that Mariska has become one of the show's producers since this season began. If anyone can coax him back for a return gig, it would be her. Could it have been any more obvious that they were channeling Lindsay and Dina Lohan on tonight's episode? Lookalikes and sound-alikes, the both of them. I'm almost surprised their real names weren't used. LOL
Members amybrickwallace
Is anyone else surprised that SVU has been renewed for next season? So far, this season has been a mess. As much as I love her, MH has to share some of the blame because she's part of the crew now as a producer and occasionally a director. Olivia just isn't believable as the head of the squad - they should have gotten a new CO. Of course, I still miss Munch, Cragen and Huang. But as long as Barba is still around (who has given the prosecution part of the show a huge boost since the revolving doors of ADAs a few years back), I'll keep watching. Also, no matter how much of an annoyance Carisi often is - he still isn't the worst cop SVU ever had. That distinction still belongs to Chester Lake!!!
Members Khan
Sadly, I agree. It isn't that Olivia is incompetent as head of the SVU squad, per se -- because, on the face of it, she isn't. But...I don't know...it still feels to me like she's just filling in until Cragen returns (not happening, I know) or until "One P.P." assigns the new head. Frankly, I wonder whether it's time for MH to leave the show. They have Rollins, Tutuola, Amaro, Barba and now Carisi (who is growing on me, believe it or not). All they'd need is a new SVU head -- preferably someone from one of the other L&O shows -- and they might have a pretty solid program.
Members amybrickwallace
Are real-life sergeants COs? I thought one had to be a lieutenant or captain to be a CO (as has been seen here and the mothership with Cragen, the mothership with Van Buren, CI with Deakins/Ross, etc.). I wouldn't really want to see Olivia leave, as her friendship/chemistry with Barba is one of my favorite parts of the show. However, it does seem that Benson's collective heart really isn't in it anymore now that she has Noah - and I have a feeling that this season finale will have something to do with him and the adoption. Also, I really wish they would show Munch in his capacity as investigator for the DA's office. I'd love to see him assist Barba in a few cases. Bring back the Munchkin!!
Members Eric83
I am not surprised at all. It's ratings are very steady and NBC doesn't have much room to be choosy. Not to mention it holds strong in the very competitive Wednesday at 9 timeslot. With the juggernaut Empire and still strong Modern Family there it's best that NBC leave a reliable utility player like SVU there and focus on improving their abysmal Tuesdays and Thursdays
Members amybrickwallace
No matter what, I don't think the show could survive without Hargitay/Benson. For better or worse, she IS SVU.

Members amybrickwallace
Do any of you think Chris Meloni would ever come back in a guest capacity at this point (probably too late to do it this season), or has that ship already sailed?
Members marceline
If Eddie Murphy can return to SNL, Meloni can come back to SVU. Edited March 1, 2015 by marceline
Members Khan
Apropos of nothing: I believe Barba has a "thing" for Carisi. He might insult the guy, but I think that's just his way of covering his real feelings. Trust. Watch.
Members amybrickwallace
I think he could do a LOT better than Carisi, but that's just my opinion. LOL
Members Khan
So, Amaro's gone. I can't say I'm surprised by his decision to retire from the force and start fresh in California. I feel like the writers probably wrote him into a corner -- if such a thing is possible in the L&O universe -- and that they acknowledged as much by having Tucker from IAB tell Benson that the department would never promote him given his record. Plus -- and I'm sure most, if not all, would disagree -- but the more I watched Danny Pino on SVU, the more I felt he was just repeating his old role on "Cold Case." I've always felt casting him after coming from another procedural was not a good idea; and whether they finally realized that or not, and whether Pino is leaving of his own accord or the producers just feel it was time for a change, the point is, I actually believe the decision to write him out was a smart one. Now, Mr. Wolf, perhaps you could look into hiring a new female to join the squad next season? And maybe -- just maybe -- she could be an AA or Asian-American? Let Olivia take a more administrative role as the head of the squad, thus giving her more time to raise Noah; and give either Fin or Amanda a new partner to work with while the other continues showing the ropes to Cousin Oliver -- I mean, Carisi. Oh, yeah, and get a better actor to portray the ADA. Making Raul Esparza the first male ADA in SVU's history was a nice touch but...I dunno...he doesn't seem all that electrifying as a performer.
Members amybrickwallace
Bring back Alex Eames!!! She guested on SVU a couple of times after CI bit the dust. She's already a LT, so that probably won't happen since Liv will probably take and pass the LT exam. But we can dream!! Benson and Eames would be like the L&O universe's Cagney and Lacey. LOL I think Danny Pino chose to leave, and it's quite possible because of burnout. His 4 seasons on SVU were almost immediately preceded by 7 seasons on Cold Case, and it seemed that Amaro was basically the same as Scotty Valens. Maybe they should have made him an ADA instead, just to shake things up a bit. Plus, he lives in LA so he doesn't have to do the commute to NYC anymore. I love Raul Esparza and Barba!!! He really is a very charismatic performer, but the material he was given this past season was very thankless. Probably his best courtroom scenes this year were in "Pornstar's Requiem", which aired in October. Your description of Carisi as the show's Cousin Oliver is too funny - and so true. Even his co-workers shoo him away like a gnat. They really need to get new writers for Season 17 or just call it a day. They haven't done anything the past few seasons that they haven't done better before.
Members Khan
Don't get me wrong, I happen to enjoy Carisi...but I realize how annoying he can be to many fans. At this point, I'd much rather see SVU end than bring in another writing team. Warren Leight brought in a little "fresh air" but I think he fell into the same melodramatic trap as his predecessor, Neal Baer. It just can't be easy to keep a series about sex crimes from growing stale and repetitive. Edited May 24, 2015 by Khan
Members amybrickwallace
Very true. I don't know how they've kept going as long as they have. Actually, Carisi doesn't bother me too much - the one SVU detective I absolutely couldn't stand was Chester Lake. He and ADA Kim Greylek still go down in my book as not only the worst characters in SVU history, but among the worst in the entire L&O universe.
