Members jcar03
I think a lot of cast members stuck around that would have left if we were not in a pandemic. McKinnon, Strong, Bryant, Mooney, Bennett are all over 8 seasons now. Even Davidson is at 7 seasons.
Members Gray Bunny
Agreed. The article posted certainly highlighted on the newer (i.e. those who've been around for 3-4 years) folks needing to step up their game. On nights when Cecily Strong is off, Aidy is MIA, and McKinnon only does the opening sketch, there are some weak sauce players and the skits don't gel. They've got a great team of players overall, but I agree some of the sideline players need to sieze the moment and become the next big breakouts. That said, newbies Bowen Yang kills it in everything he does, and Chloe Fineman is definitely picking up the pace. And Ego excels - they need to build on her. Members Khan
Frankly, I think Ego is the strongest performer to come along on SNL in ages. It's way past time for a woman of color to break out on this show.

Members Faulkner
Melissa Villaseñor did impressions of John Mulaney, Sarah Silverman, and Kate McKinnon as host of the Independent Spirit Awards. Not sure why SNL doesn’t build skits around her impressions: Please register in order to view this content

Members DRW50
@Vee Thanks. That's interesting. It's also likely a smokescreen, of course (cast members who have a lot of power or make Lorne a lot of money can probably take a powder [like Mike Myers did when Nancy Kerrigan hosted...others, not likely], but I guess it can be seen as a sign of progress compared to the days when the show wished death on Nora Dunn for boycotting the Andrew Dice Clay episode. Lorne undercuts his very talented cast (and mostly talented writing team) with these ratings-chasing, shock value hosts, but if we got a trainwreck episode it might be fascinating to document, if nothing else. Unfortunately we will probably get a very safe, "cute," stilted episode that will be forgotten in a week, at least until the first cast member to leave the show shares weird Elon stories on 500 different podcasts. Hopefully someone more compelling and less heinous will host the last two episodes of the season.

Members Faulkner
Keegan-Michael Key should be great.
Members Planet Soap
Not sure how you all feel about this, but I always found Mad Tv (and In Living Color) to be edgier and funnier than SNL. It think Mad's 1 hour run time was a plus too. Both shows also boasted a more diverse cast. Mad Tv especially could swing from frat boy to urban and everyman's humor. Mad and Living were strong at music video parodies as well. Because SNL has to fill a 90 minute slot, it's makes half the skits feel like moderate to barely funny filler. The only advantage SNL has is comedy star generating power and the iconic backdrop of New York and Rockefeller Center to add to it's prestige. Members Faulkner
SNL was the No. 1 entertainment series (meaning excluding sports) in the 18-49 demo across all of ad-supported TV this past season, beating even The Masked Singer and This Is Us. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/snl-ratings-no-1-2020-21-season-1234963138/
