We've been there. Although with immigrants and ICE it takes it to a truly even more horrifying degree. And we have people in charge who want all the "undesirables" not only gone from this country but from this planet. That's why we've been in the Middle east now for almost 20 years. Watch Ava DuVernay's documentary 13th and you will get a very good idea why private prisons exist.

The problem is they are wrong about so much and I actually think people are paying less and less attention to them. I know ratings are up in places like MSNBC but I don’t think people really pay attention. The arrogance shown by Hunt, who I admit I’ve not ever really cared for is typical of Beltway folks. Yesterday i heard also how Lamb is a moderate and warning sign for democrats primarying incumbents. They used the 4th congressional district in Illinois of how a TOO progressive democrat is primarying a blue dog. And how bad it is. Shows people know zero about the district because Lipinski is a big example of old machine big money politics and is out of touch with a good portion of his district. And she’s not ultra liberal. She’s more progressive yes but she’s also a businesswoman and is pro union, pro labor, is for increasing the min wage, supports shoring up Ocare. The only “radical” position is that she’s pro choice. I guess to Beltway hacks that’s now radical. Talk about out of touch.

This is fascinating and frightening all at the same time. A fantastic piece of journalism by the way. Putting aside all the other consequences of this, it explains a great deal about positioning with Qatar who feels like the well intentioned (relatively speaking) dupe in this entire process.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/14/democrat-conor-lamb-is-the-apparent-winner-of-pennsylvania-special-election-in-trump-country.html so apparently Conor Lamb does win in PA18 . The last big county, Washington, which Saccone was hoping would go his way, actually showed absentee votes favored Lamb who secured a larger lead. The tax cuts apparently were dropped as an election talking point because voters aren’t buying it as a middle class miracle. And the GOP and PACs poured over 12 million dollars into this race compared to between 2.5 and 3 million for Lamb. But the real story again, women were 70% of the volunteers fueling the grassroots efforts that helped Lamb. Lamb also got all the Union support in the district.

Hate to look to China but no way will they take any if this. As they continue to expand and exert influence around the world, in many cases backfilling the absence of the US, I expect them to squash Russia. Are they a better alternative. No.

As someone who has worked in education off and on for years, what an embarrassment. I worked in Chicago Public Schools, and I can attest to the fact that Arnie Duncan, former head of CPS, was disliked a lot, primarily due to his role in closing over 50 public schools in mainly minority areas of the city and being a big proponent of charter schools. He was Obama's first Sec of Education. But at least he could talk policy, he worked in education his entire life, his mom was a teacher. This woman has no clue. And the experimentation she was allowed to undertake in Michigan should make any legislator ashamed of ever voting for her. This is one thing I resent Susan Collins for the most. Yes she ultimately voted NO on Devos, but she voted YES to move her nomination out of committee, when a NO then would have killed her nomination for good.

If it opens up the floodgates on his money, bribes. Mob style business empire I agree, although I think Mueller is already onto that. And I suspect the NY AG already has a case built or in process state centric case against Kuschnar. His downfall will be quickened as soon as the GOP is done with him. After reading one of the most dishonest Op-Ed’s by Charles Koch in WAPo yesterday, that may be sooner than we all think.

Texas still has a record number of people who do not vote. I'm not sure who thought Texas was turning purple at this point. Heck Georgia would be a better investment for democrats in the short term than Texas IMO. But the democrats did increase turnout and it's very likely they will pick up at least 2 congressional seats, both in Clinton districts and both with Latina women running. I think there is still a lot of work to be done in Texas to engage people, particularly Hispanics in the southern part of the state where numbers turned out to be low. The democrats in texas need to invest in energizing that base as they did in Alabama. And then serve them. I'm in Illinois and I have been hearing how horrible early voting numbers are in the City of Chicago, particularly African American areas. Problem here is no one is excited about the primaries except those in the districts getting attention. I am in Gutierrez's district and we have 3 people running in the primary for his seat. I am particularly excited about the woman, Sol Flores, but she doesn't have a chance since Chuy Garcia has been blessed by the establishment and also Sanders and other so called progressives and then Garcia goes and endorses old establishment boss Mike Madigan. I think my point is that even in years that you see that should be competitive you are seeing SSDD with so many democrats that it keeps the enthusiasm down. Rahm Emmanuel the mayor is in bed with our idiot GOP Governor, has forced gentrification in AA neighborhood, forcing these people out of the city. And he has local African American leaders supporting him.

Of course it will. China frankly doesn't even care that much about the tariffs, well that is the steel tariffs. It's going to hurt our allies more than it hurts them. China is looking forward to clean energy, technology, and AI. Tariffs are a 50 year old fix to a modern day problem

I want to know how people like Maggie Haberman are any better than Michael Wolff who they all complain about. She's no better than he is. Her entire reporting on the white house is fluffing up Jared and Ivanka and making excuses for everything that goes on. At least Wolff's stuff seemed more accurate than her fluff.

The guy came out in support of keeping confederate monuments and was kissing Dana Loesch's ass(the NRA spokesperson - a vile human being) and he's a progressive? I am no Dan Lipinski fan(blue dog from Chicago district) but at least he has an F rating with the NRA. I expect a Paul Ryan type quote of how we should not be penalizing legal gun owners, none of whom actually have a problem with universal background checks and tighter restrictions on waiting periods and assault weapons. I won't ever forget that Sanders quote comparing good gun owners in rural Vermont to the baddies in Chicago. I know exactly what that dog whistle means.

Fair enough but who exactly is suggesting anything is a cake walk for democrats other than the same people who wrongly predicted 2016 and the races in Virginia and Alabama and in other areas across the country in 2017.

This is a big deal for LGBTQ rights 2nd Circuit appeals court just ruled in favor of a gay worker, saying anti-gay discrimination is prohibited under 1964 civil rights law. It’s a loss for the Justice Dept, which injected itself into the case to argue against gay rights. https://www.buzzfeed.com/dominicholden/a-federal-court-just-ruled-for-gay-rights-in-a-major?utm_term=.mxLG8G78d#.qdw1o1joY

The joke is that if we believe the stats, a very small percentage of gun owners even belong to the NRA. AARP has 38 million members the NRA 5 million. And no discounts for teachers.

So the Supreme Court refuses to hear the DACA appeal. So for the time being DACA is still in effect and the 9th circuit is likely to rule in favor of DACA. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-26/u-s-supreme-court-rebuffs-trump-won-t-hear-immigration-appeal-je4bn951?cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business&utm_content=business&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social No one knows what's going to happen, but I am done listening to any Beltway press or media when it comes to politics. Politico did a horrible take the day before on one of our local congressional races here in Illinois - Lipinski vs. Newman, basically insisting democrats need to stay with Blue Dog Lipinski. Now if this were a red or purple district I would agree, but this is a district that is solid blue so going with the more progressive Newman (who is not radical left) is not a mistake as this district has ZERO chance of ever going red. Lipinski is pro life, anti immigrant, voted against the Affordable Care Act. Has not touched on how important to healthcare is to his district. It's also a district that has seen a shift in terms of latino population over the past 8 years, doubling. He does have the state party support, the support of mayors across his district, and has brought money into his district due to his position on the transportation committee. And he does show up to events in his district regularly when he's in town. So it's not all negative. But these are the same people who believed Virginia was going with Gillespie, didn't predict the races across the state correctly, insisted Roy Moore was going to win. I'm not diminishing the fact that the races won't be easy, but neither are people who actually live in these districts. I actually don't think by the way Newman will win. Lipinski has the financial advantage and AFLCIO support. But I think it will be closer than expected.

I can’t find it but maybe it’s finally reached a tipping point for white working class women. I can’t find the Times article, but yesterday it was about how much support Trump has lost with white working class women in states like Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan the entire rust belt. Some of its been building since the healthcare debacle, and that so many women feel he let them down. I also think these abuse incidents might be the next big tipping point. 2 years ago before the flood gates opened and metoo took hold, Trump might have been able to skate on having domestic abusers on staff. Yesterday was the first time I actually heard the normal female pundits who tend to excuse anything they do, question why it’s all about the perpetrator and where is the talk about the women who were abused. I also want to remind all those doubting thomases who still love to prop the GOP (the media can’t help themselves) who love to scream how Dems are failing who actually won those elections in Virginia and Alabama, elections we were all told were going to the GOP. Women in Virginia and BLACK WOMEN in Alabama. The patrairchy has been failing for how many years. Institutions engrained in it, churches of all faiths included, have been coddling all bastions of indecency in the interest of maintaining it.
