  1. Bernie Sanders is planning on filibustering the Defense Spending bill unless McConnell brings the 2k bill up for a vote. This to me finally seems like a good idea since Trump vetoed the defense spending bill also.
  2. I wasn't pointing to anyone in particular or even on this board with the comments I made. I apologize if it came across that way. I just get frustrated when so many think one can just swoop in without doing the hard work and buy races. The GOP certainly did not do that despite the insane about of money that is spent. Well maybe the Tea Party which was a bought and paid for group of "grassroots" organizers. But whenever you see shifts in places like Georgia Arizona and I will say even Texas it's based on years and years of work on the ground. And that ground work builds from the ground up which is likely why North Carolina reverted back. Florida for example has a lot of problems and I think we can firmly say it's a red state at this point, but the potential there has been wasted. There are organizers there but a bumbling party structure for years has allowed the GOP to sell themselves there as saviors. Hard to imagine in a place that has bungled and covered up so much about COVID deaths in the state. I have a friend who grew up in Puerta Rico and has tons of family there and she talks about how well organized the GOP is in terms of Puerta Ricans in Florida and the machine they have that helps people transition into the state with lots of help and the democrats think that swooping in 2 months before an election changes that? Mississippi has the largest state black population in the country and there are organizers there but they also need help and money. I know people think it's too radical to think about MS changing but it's not provided the money to help those grassroots organizations there is possible. The bill needs to be signed but that higher payment certainly needs to be addressed. $600 is a fricking joke.
  3. Yep but remember Abrams has been working on turning Georgia for over 10 years. Something a lot of people forget. When I hear that Biden winning Georgia was a miracle, it discounts the work not only Stacey did but many grassroots groups over the past 10-12 years. Arizona is a product of the same. Organizers have worked in AZ for years and the story there has been the grassroots organizing in not just the Latino communities but also Native American. I hope we can look past the cynicism and agree that both states are a result of hard work. AZ now has 2 democratic senators along with it. And maybe I am being Susie Sunshine but I do think Texas is in play for 2024. Talk is Beto will run in 2022 for Governor. And if he's on the ballot, that will juice up turnout for all the down ballot races as his candidacy did in 2018. And Harris County in Texas has changed politically over the past 10 years very significantly.
  4. Tax break for corporate meal expenses inserted into coronavirus aid package - The Washington Post
  5. I think most of the picks have been exceptional. Buttigieg time will tell and Austin with the waiver needed(don;t like the idea of replicating anything Trump did) and Vilsack who I think is a terrible choice for Ag Secretary. I thought Marcia Fudge was a shoe in for that.
  6. I don't believe Cuomo was ever on it same as Rahm Emmanuel was never on a real list either. Both probably floated their own names on there.
  7. Not sure how many people have seen this but the media hasn't said a word about this. It's pretty amazing what's happening in India. 250 million Indian workers and farmers strike, breaking world record – People's World
  8. This guy makes my blood boil. He clerked for Scotus, is a Federalist Society toadie. and uses his sisters address to establish residency in Missouri. He lives in the DC area - permanent. Marxist Capitalist? Is he that dumb to not know what historical figure used that exact term. Sadly know I am sure he knows exactly who did.
  9. The stock market jump is likely because they are relieved Yellen in going to be Treasury Secretary. That may be short lived. She's briliiant but is pro regulation but may also be able to help get a stimulus package passed.
  10. Frankly we don't know how any demographic voted. These numbers are based on exit polls when a good % of people voted by mail. Rachel Bitecofer is going to wait until she examines actually votes and who voted absentee, early, and on election days before she releases any numbers on this. And frankly I don't understand why anyone at this point would look at any polling seriously at this point.
  11. White journalists have been all over media talking about how black voter turnout was not up and wasn't the deciding factor in many elections all over the country.
  12. Thanks for the feedback. I am glad some of it was not me. Florida has been a dumping ground for years and yes even when Obama won it twice. I believe the issue in Florida is entirely the democratic party in the state and it's been years and still they have not seemed to be truly invested or have an interest in addressing the issues. And couple that with the Latino community. I have a friend who is from Puerto Rico. She's also evangelical and has broken from part of her family. One thing she has always said is stop treating the Latino community link a monolith. In Florida in particular the GOP for years has had a program in Florida that helps movers from Puerto Rico get settled and acclimated. The democrats nothing. If the democrats don't want to invest the time in Florida to build from the ground up in various areas - and clearly they don't - just forget it. As for the Latino community as a whole, Julian Castro and others have been screaming about this for years. Nothing new, Something has to give. And it still amazes me how the democrats/liberals have very little radio and TV presence in rural America and other areas where they need more visibility. At this point you would think someone would have bought up some local affiliates and airwaves but no. Will never understand i t.
  13. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts here. I normally don't read or post much from Politico but this was shared by someone I actually respect. An interview with David Shor, Democratic Strategist and Pollster “Florida is a very instructive push back against this idea of demographics as destiny.” https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/11/12/2020-election-analysis-democrats-future-david-shor-interview-436334
  14. Meh this is all to keep people fretting so they forget about Georgia. Keep your eye on the ball and help with those elections. Write Postcards, Phonebank, Textbank, Donate - anything to help. McConnell wants those senate seats more than anything. Good to see the internal fighting with the GOP with those 2 dunces running for the GOP mad that the GOP Sec and State and Gov there did not rig their elections.
  15. The Florida Democratic Party has had years to get their a** in gear. I agree with you on Florida. Until the democrats take Florida seriously and invest forget it. I have a friend who is of Puerto Rican descent. Her family is evangelical Christian and she talked about how hard it's been to get her family to see how toxic the GOP is. She's broken from one family member over politics. BUT she has regularly said the democrats needs to stop treating Latinos/as as a monolith. In Florida in particular when people were celebrating the fact that PR's who moved to Florida would sway the election to democrats, she was cautious. The GOP in Florida is smart and have programs in place to help PR's coming into the state. People remember that. The democrats - nothing. I don't really understand what the issue is with democrats in Florida but it's never ending. I have a ton of faith in Stacey Abrams but I agree about Georgia. Unless the democrats have the senate, HR1 will never come to the floor and this is the only way we can fix our elections and gerrymandering. If the GOP has mapping control in those states as they will based on the 2020 election we can again write off those states for another 10 years and probably indefinitely since we now have a further slanted court. The democrats might end up with a 10 seat advantage and considering everything that is NOTHING. This is what minority control feels like and no I don't think this is a center right or center left country. We are down the middle with a media which regularly slants towards the right.
  16. AOC is following the lead of her idol Bernie Sanders. A lot of hot air and nothing. She's smart no question but if she was really smart she's be listening to Ted Kennedy who's office she worked for versus a guy who has zero legislative action and success. Sanders still hasn't credited M4All to John Conyers who had been pushing this legislation for 25 years.
  17. Ugh the awfulness of this year doesn't quite end with Biden/Harris. I know this is not a surprise based on his comments a few months ago, but still sad. Such a loss.
  18. It's been a long week and long 4 years. Thanks to everyone here all of you. You have been a lifeline of sorts. And @Vee so much respect for keeping us all informed and sane the past few days. I had to drop out of watching any of the MSM coverage. Even as Trump loses he sucks up all the oxygen in the room. @Juliajmsso sorry to hear you lost your family pet at this time. 2020 has been the worst year for so many. I have so much contempt for the media this week after this long drawn out garbage. And if I have to hear Maggie Haberman and her Trump whispering garbage one more time I will pull my hair out. She was on CNN this morning again telling everyone how he will concede just like he did when he acknowledged Obama was born in the US - such gross pandering by her. Lauren Underwood has gone ahead in her race in Illinois by around 4000 votes now as mail in votes are still getting counted here. She's going to win - such a relief. I know @DRW50you said some of those R districts would have turned anyway. I am glad to see hers was not one. And her district is part suburban and part rural and lean R. She's also one of the hardest working members of congress. Oberweiss will go on to lose ANOTHER race - (Gov, Senator, the list goes on as to the number of races he has lost here) thank goodness. And we know she won because he's out raising money for a recount. She's back at work.
  19. Will Donnie Danvers burn Maralago down?
  20. lol CBC in Canada called it. WOOHOO!!!!
  21. None of these so called experts impress me. I rarely watch MSNBC or CNN these days, but Kornacki irritates me. I guess he's got the nerd factor which plays as some sort of geeky numbers guy. I did hear what he was saying and having been an election judge before, he has no idea what he's talking about in terms of provisional ballots. But I guess it fools the masses. I had to laugh as Nicole Wallace sat there and listened and said "Oh ok that makes perfect sense". I went back to listening to John Fugelsang while I worked on my current bread recipe.
  22. She would be terrific as head of the DNC but I assumed she turned down the idea of running for senate because she wanted to run for state leadership again. Kemp is a moron.
  23. But the Governors race is not until 2022.
  24. Isn't she going to run for Governor again?
  25. Thanks for posting. I heard about this from other supporters of her about 2 hours ago. We still have a ton of mail in ballots to count in Illinois and she was only 900 votes behind. Oberweiss that sleazy grifter is already raising money for a recount. He knows he likely lost. I am so happy. I volunteered for her in 2018 and in 2020 and she's one of the hardest working members of congress. I hope it holds. And it might just reinstate my opinion of her district residents who have to know how hard she works for them
