  1. Lucy Johnson, Laurence Caso, Felicia Mini Behr, Kenneth Fitts, Angela Shapiro, Ed Trach, Bob Short, etc. were all network execs. There may be more. For example, one must respect the contribution made over the years to his company's shows by an executive like Ed Trach, whose background includes a degree from the Yale School of Drama. He understands storytelling, and the continued viability of of Procter & Gamble's major soaps shows it. - Writing for Daytime Drama, Jean Rouverol © 1992 Related entities were Young & Rubicam, Rose Cooperman, Irna Phillips, and Arno Phillips.
  2. AbcNbc247 was speaking of 1981 .... so, looking at other dates, Doug died May 1989 & Connie died Feb. 1993 ... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Someone asked where the AW Bible is. It is in the Publications Section of the AWHP. It's easy to find once you land in that section.
  3. NBC's Susan D. Lee was one of the handful of people who made the decision that Frankie Frame would be brutally murdered by a serial killer, Fax Neuman, written by Margaret DePriest. They had started out to kill off Donna as part of that "age thing" they were onto. Well, fans found out & pitched fits! JFP & Susan D. Lee then moved on to 2 mid-level actresses: Frankie Frame & Paulina. They held a focus group to see who would be chosen. As it turned out it was Frankie. Now, she was one of the Frame family that Harding "Pete" Lemay had written back in the day. And, she was married to Cass & had a child with him, Charlie. And, she was a P.I. with Joe. And, she was a very grounded person. Meanwhile, fans were against all of this! JFP tried to talk MdP into not having her killed dramatically onscreen but she wouldn't hear any of it. They went ahead with their murder of Frankie. Some fans left the show entirely. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It really made no sense that NBC's Susan D. Lee gave Sunset Beach a 6 month extension when AW had better ratings. And, MADD had put AW on a deadline & then came back in the country just to cancel it before that deadline was up! (MADD aka Mickey was a network exec.) Chris, like everyone at AW, openly wept at the end of the show. A few months later Susan D. Lee was fired. My partner & I had a party! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Rauch was not a network Exec. He was an EP. And a noted one. But, he did pull one stunt that maybe equates to a Network Exec's. Rauch appeared at the end of the final episode of Santa Barbara on January 15, 1993. The final shot consisted of Rauch standing in front of the camera, smashing a cigar under his shoe, and walking away.
  4. And, before anything else happens, JFP fired Barbara Berjer for being too old, aka over 50. (Same for David Hedison.) I don't know how much it meant at GL for Barbara Berjer to be fired but at AW, she was always there to take care of Vicky's two boys!
  5. I've been a fan of and a scholar of daytime dramas since the 70s. As a fan activist it was impossible for me to not know about the networks, companies that were interested in AW, honchos, etc. Near the end of AW, in the 90s, Viacom wanted either to merge with P&G or to acquire AW. It was a Sumner Redstone project. Fans were in favor of this because it would keep the show on the air. It fell through. Paramount wanted either to merge with P&G or Viacom or to acquire AW. Eventually Paramount & Viacom merged with Viacom as the parent company. This did AW & its fans no good at all. The last company that wanted in on a P&G/AW deal was FOX. They had wanted a daytime lineup for years! Their choices were the P&G soaps. Beginning with AW and ATWT would have given them a minumum of two to start with. Eventually they did begin a daytime lineup but it wasn't soaps. Instead it was news shows & talk shows. Brandon Tartikoff, who began on ABC and the moved over to NBC, ran into Victoria Wyndham, met her, and said, “Oh my God, you’re the only reason we keep that show [Another World] on the air.” And he was dead shortly after that, so it didn’t help me very much." He died at the young age of 48. I keep thinking that he did a cameo on some show but I can't get any further with that memory. Anyone? I think instead I'm thinking of Brian Frons appearing as god on Santa Barbara.
  6. Yeah, you're with my brother there. Me, I loved Carl & Rachel. The YouTube Cips we put up of Carl & Rachel #1, #2 and #3 are great to me.
  7. Oh, @Khan, Lumina was so bad! David Halliday/Jordan Stark with the facial disfiguration, UGH, can we say Phantom of the Opera?!! And, David/Jordan was after both Rachel & Amanda. Yuck! And, Cameron, of The Secret Garden with Amanda & Ally, had that soft "barely there" hair & spoke just as softly. Where The Secret Garden was really just a maze of shrubbery. I thought the end 90s were better than you did. Carl & Rachel's love story & time walking through the Poet's Corner were wonderful, if you ask me. Of course, Matt & Amanda were always against that. In real life, my brother was against it too. Our family grew up with both AW & DOOL.
  8. Tell me what the link is for this. I've got some people on Facebook who want to see it.
  9. ROTF! Okay. I'll be glad to go visit the AW Fan Bench. Tell her to join me. You both can.
  10. VanessaReardon, The next time you talk to Marcia McCabe, ask her about knowing this P&G writer, Tom Petitjean. I believe he was a friend of hers & of Chris's.
  11. Great! Glad to hear it. Tell her she was excellent on SFT. And, that we all loved her as Bunny Eberhardt on AW.
  12. If Goutman & McCabe divorced in 2016, I'm fine with that. I still would imagine from everything we've all heard about Chris Goutman from 2004 on that he was living a miserable life. If that's an issue of fact to you, okay. It's not to me.
  13. Charlotte Savitz was a very bad EP & she competed to see how many people she could fire. JFP was a very bad EP & she fired 2 more people than Savitz had & brutally murdered Frankie Frame by a serial killer. Michael Malone was a terrible HW & never understood the show or the characters & tried to turn it into a show bible called 13 Bourbon Street. Margaret Depriest was a terrible HW who wrote two serial killers while she was HWing. Leah Laiman and Jean Passanante were terrible HWs & Chris didn't even want them & had them pushed on him. P&G wanted the best for AW. NBC wanted to either own AW itself or push it out the back door.
  14. "We all felt that we had truly turned the show around." - Donna Bridges, all the fan activists thought that Chris Goutman had turned the show around! "In daytime it takes a long time to lose loyal fans and it also takes a while to get them back. We all felt that in the last six months in particular that the show had improved dramatically." It really made no sense that NBC's Susan D. Lee gave Sunset Beach a 6 month extension when AW had better ratings. And, MADD had put AW on a deadline & then came back in the country just to cancel it before that deadline was up! Chris, like everyone at AW, openly wept at the end of the show. Quoting Vee: He then had a few good but controversial years at ATWT. That was a long, long time ago. The minute he pushed Sheffer out ATWT became unwatchable and stayed that way til it ended its run, a long slow death he regularly seemed to treat with utter contempt in public behavior. He was allegedly responsible for inadvertently truncating Julianne Moore's appearance as well. Goutman is a talented actor and director with a long, long history in daytime. He also should've been dumped from ATWT long before the end. Me: In 2005 Chris gave a Q&A to Jen Lenhart, ATWT Editor for "Soap Opera Digest", in which he said that he knew what his show needed & he didn't want any fan mail or calls to the studio. Besides that & burning Martha, he was very arrogant at the end. I asked someone who worked for him at both AW & ATWT what in the heck happened & he said that in 2004 Chris went over to the darkside. That's just the way he said it. And, sometime in there, he & Marcia McCabe got a divorce, so you know the man lived with tension all the time.
  15. Okay. Thanks for spelling that out. I remember when Larry came back to work, at AW, and for soaps, in general. He had been through some sort of rehab. He looked great, healthy & had lost weight. I was hostessing him & his delightful girlfriend in our courtesy room at a fan event & he was just really great. He was in a black tshirt & tight black jeans. He & Stephen Schnetzer looked alike! LOL
  16. I thought at the time that Larry Lau was considered to be an FOJ & considered himself to be one. I could be wrong. I know I remember it being said, but that in itself could be wrong. We had Lau at AW & then he was at OLTL. Glad to hear that Pam had a gap. Ya know, something that we need is a canonical list of FOJs! Actors & JFP colleagues just don't have the same view of her as we do.
  17. Yes, I hated him, too. And, then, if we apply the question to Roger Howarth instead of to Todd Manning, well, I found Roger's Paul on ATWT a great disappontment. Did Pamela K. Long go to OLTL directly from GL? And, at OLTL, she wrote the Kramer women, that matriarchy, strong & interesting & female instead of male, right? And, then, she wrote the Rappaports, too, right? How many FOJs did JFP turn into Rappaports? Kale Browne & Larry Lau? It's just a wonder that she could find enough FOJs to go around at times!
  18. Oh, thanks. They really did a good job with that then!

  20. Harley with a Jewish man, sounds interesting.
  21. What was the storyline interference? That's the second time that's come up here. Meanwhile I just thought she really wanted to have a child.
