It was my pleasure. It's a fantastic scene. Dee at her finest. How many times does her voice break? 4? 5? Her use of her instrument is incredible. Plus, she takes her time. There's plenty of silence between phrases. And, she doesn't feel like she can show this to either John or Roman. But, she is free to express herself with Abe. Here he is the perfect "talk-to". Then it's extra that he does not have to choose, but she does. Oh, about Missy, you are correct. There were times when the show needed Jennifer & Missy was unwilling to come & play her.

Oh, no, I'm a huge fan of Cady McClain's. I can recommend her memoir for reading about a child actor who ended up winning 3 Daytime Emmys for 3 roles on 3 shows on 3 networks. Loved her as Dixie. Adored her as Rosanna. Eat her up as Jennifer Rose. Plus, really enjoyed her project about women directors. And, being a conservative is not at all what the issue is with Missy. I always get a kick out of seeing especially actresses play drunk & this was in no way a disappointment. Sloan totally got snockered in record time & made an absolute & utter fool of herself. It made perfect sense to me that she worked herself up ahead of time worrying about the kind of impression she'd be making with Marlena & John, although, perhaps it was really just Marlena that she was worried about. She wouldn't be the first woman to be afraid of her husband's mother disapproving of her. For her part in things Marlena is just well put together & calm & unruffled & on top of all that, she's a shrink to practically the entire community. And, of course, we know that Sloan is suffering under the weight of a huge guilty conscience. She clearly was puzzled at Sloan's behavior but then so was Eric! I was discussing Fired Guy still being in the closing credits with someone & trying to compute. Alarr was fired on Aug. 4th & they keep 6 months of show in the can, so, counting on my fingers, that comes to Feb. 4th. @JAS0N47 does that sound right? Yep, we could easily see Sloan slugging down wine at every opportunity! But, you've gotta give up on this Dimitri dream with him gone with no sign of a return. I guess I didn't take it as an anti-DiMera attitude. Don't you figure they conducted the raid based on a tip?!! They'd have had to have something like that to be able to get a search warrant. Absolutely! And, how brilliant of Justin to get him out of that adult jail. Rehab & group therapy & all of that is gonna be very hard on Tate but it's still so much better than the danger of his being in an adult jail. I figure he got a law degree to go along with an MBA, from a business point of view. Well, I thought today was another good DAYS.

There is a wonderful scene with Marlena and Abe at the end of the Mexico saga. I don't know dates exactly so I am not sure where you are at in context. But Marlena tells Abe "you get to love them both and I can't". It's a great scene and gives a lot of weight to Marlena's friendship with Abe and also plants the seeds of the affair. I look forward to that! I don't remember Abe being in Mexico. But maybe he was in the group in the "reception" after the Bo/Carly wedding.

R.I.P.: Bill Hayes Has Died
Yes, you're correct, FIRST but also ONLY! And, that mag was the issue of Jan. 12, 1976. And, our Bill died on Jan. 12. And in that mag are 3 articles pertaining to soaps! One, about Doug & Julie on DAYS & love & suffering in the afternoon. Another, about each soap on the air, just maybe 2 sentences per show. And, the biggest article about daytime serials in general, and pretty good soap scholarship. I re-read it all over the weekend. Except for coverage in TV Guide this was the first recognition of daytime in mainstream media. It's all up on the web. GH: January 2024 Discussion Thread
It makes sense to me, too, that they would stop, take stock, get their bearings and in a bit come out fighting again. In the sense of there being a first time for everything, last week I gave Laura a STFU, Laura, post! She is so far out of line with Esme that it's as bad as Portia during half of last year!

Yes, it was Bill Bell who saw something between the actors, a spark, and began to write for them. However, he did not marry them. He was reluctant to do so because of the always supposed "boring" factor. So, it was him who began all of that back & forth where they'd both be with others & then one would become available & then by the time the other one would become available the first one would be with someone else!!! It was maddening but it was exciting. IRL they married in 1974 & Bill said there were 16 people in their living room so then in 1976 when I believe it was PFS who had them wed, they had 16 million people tune in & it blew everyone's mind! The term "super couple" hadn't been coined yet but it was applied to them retroactively in 5 years when it was coined by the mainstream media on the occasion of Luke & Laura. (Also to ATWT's Jeff & Penny.)

12-11-91 Day 21 (1-14-24) Roman is not a jerk, not even close. We begin with Carly watching Bo sleep & then gently she wakes him. Marlena brings the sports page & breakfast in to Roman & wakes him & gets in bed. They begin to kiss & it's fine but then she breaks it off & says they have so many tough times ahead of them. She says it's almost Christmas & the kids are used to spending it with John. Meanwhile John is frustrated with delays hearing back from the ISA about the satchel. But, he tells Izzy that today he is going to tell Marlena about the baby. When he told her about the baby, she either was pleased for him or she pretended she was, effectively. He took that moment to ask her if he could be present when they tell the kids that Roman is their father. She told him he is the best person to tell them! As I am pursuing my Roman: A Jerk or Not a Jerk? Project I'm getting other DAYS stuff, too, of course. I whined about Kayla & Shane. I remarked about Tanner & Molly plus some Scofields. Then there was everyone descending on Mexico & searching for codicils, etc. I discovered that back then Gretchen was recently GH's mother of Brando, etc. Now I've just gotten a huge taste of Mayan culture & how much Bo & Carly love each other & their vows from the top of a Mexican pyramid. I've said that Drake looks ridiculous in Bermuda shorts. (Never saw him look bad in anything before. Did not know it was possible.) Finally John knows & accepts that he's not Roman & he never was so he is now filled with an urgency about his identity. The most interesting "side" story to me is the subtext that Deidre is playing so well when you can just see her brain, gears grinding, as she ponders the fact that she loves 2 men. One, she can no longer have because now he belongs to Isabella & a baby on the way. The other, she can have if she can find a way not to screw things up.

Martin Luther King Day, National Day of Service, what an interesting episode! While I agree that the propping of Leo Stark is likely doomed to fail, I sorta have to give them props for their efforts. I feel like the scab team is highly motivated, if you know what I mean. I find myself wondering who this new Chad is. And we've yet to find out much about Everett. Yes, I'm still enjoying this new narrative style. And, I have always hated pod storytelling. One thing I really noticed today was that the 40 minutes just seemed to fly by. So fast. I enjoyed hearing Jada's frustration at being profiled as a shoplifter.

R.I.P.: Bill Hayes Has Died
I am one of many soap fans who feel that LnL are not an iconic classic signature supercouple because they are disqualified from the outset because they began with a rape. Automatic disqualification. And Doug & Julie have often been called the first supercouple. But the way you describe it also makes them look like first choice. Other early couples that are often mentioned are ATWT's Jeff & Penny and AW's Steve & Alice. Of course they did not stand the test of time and Doug & Julie did.
