  1. Honestly, it sounds like Manhattan Lives / Body and Soul was initially slated to replace Santa Barbara (which ended January 1993) - they might've kept the concept going for a while longer, especially if they wanted something to use when they negotiated with the Another World producers. But pretty much once JER started moving Marlena in front-and-center I think it was unofficially done. I could see Marlena easily spinning off before that especially in late 1992 / early 1993, but once they went with the affair / pregnancy / Sami drama I feel like she became to solidified on DAYS to really make sense in spinning off to her own show.
  2. They were arrested by the police who arrived just after the computer went boom.
  3. To be honest, Marlena leaving in fall 1992/early 1993 wouldn't have been a huge issue since she just returned after a four/five year absence in 1991; it wasn't until Carly was written off and Sami being reintroduced that she show really shifted focus towards her again as the lead heroine under JER. But I think the spin-off was dead and buried by the time that happened, as I said I wonder how much of that was done to placate Deidre at the time.
  4. The way I see it, they probably sent Sami / Eric away as a preparation for the spin-off initially (probably would've been recast on Manhattan Lives), but I feel once JER took over the show and started essentially centering DOOL around Marlena the spin-off idea was dead. I don't think the affair itself would've happened and they probably would've set it up as Marlena needing to leave Salem to clear her head. Clearly they were initially hoping for it to get going fall 1992, but it looks like by 1993 it was DOA. Had Body and Soul / Manhattan Lives happened I assume Roman would've either been quietly written off in the summer / fall 1992 or moved over. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if part of the reason why the show got so Marlena focused was to placate Deidre Hall after Manhattan Lives got nixed.
  5. That's interesting! I didn't even catch the Oz-references to be honest, but when I look at it I guess the emerald necklace is pretty blatant. LOL, I never thought about the Jeff in Space plot potentially leading to Fallon being taken away in a space ship. Hell, maybe that's the season cliffhanger? Fallon somehow ends up inside the shuttle and goes into space for a bit lol.
  6. I guess it would've made sense as Sami and Eric were sent away to Colorado in the summer of 1992 to live with their grandparents. I assume that once Sami returned SORAS'd in 1993 the spin-off idea was dead.
  7. The action at the park bench set would be riveting!
  8. Imagine Days trying to do an island adventure with the current budget.
  9. I'm guessing those Hallmark movies could go into production sooner than anyone thought, so Sweeney's bye-bye again. Hopefully she'll end up doing at least a few more weeks when she returns to wrap everything up.
  10. It was obvious when you look at all the clues. Although are we getting a Jeff in Space spin-off?
  11. Well, in a few hours we find out...
  12. It looks like an Instagram story and those automatically delete themselves in 24 hours unless you save them.

Same with fellow failed syndicated soap "Tribes" - both names makes me think of those syndicated low-budget adventure/action shows rather than soap opera.
  14. The Langan teen period of early 2000s were horrible to be honest. It was also around this time they floated about doing a Saturday morning spin-off with Salem High.
  15. I very much doubt that - her character in the Dark Shadows pilot was killed in a few scenes, so she wouldn't have been a cast member even if it was picked up. I just think Reilly wanted to kill one young person on the canvas and unfortunately Cassie was basically related to everyone at that point so it made sense to off her.
  16. I agree - I can't see them recasting him just for the sake of it considering Will / Sonny might have two-three scenes in total on this considering all others appearing. I'm pretty sure Freddie was asked but for whatever reason he decided that his YouTube career was too successful; I'm guessing Tinker might end up a permanent replacement considering they still seem to want to use Will from time to time even if they don't need him fulltime on the canvas at the moment.
  17. Sounds like the Aussie soap Pacific Drive to me. Not surprised that ideas about a daytime Melrose Place were floating around at the time. Shame that nothing came of it, but it probably would've been lucky to least more than a year.
  18. Christie Clark and Austin Peck joining: https://tvline.com/2021/08/02/days-of-our-lives-spinoff-austin-peck-christie-clark-beyond-salem-cast/ Also... On Monday, Peacock also announced that Thaao Penghlis (André), Leann Hunley (Anna), Greg Rikaart (Leo), Chandler Massey (Will) and Zachary Atticus Tinker (Sonny) would be part of the spinoff.
  19. Well, people called it, but Sonny has been officially been recast with Zachary Atticus Tinker for the Beyond Salem spin-off.
  20. Actor not being the sharpest tool in the box, news at 11.
  21. This sounds like someone got it mixed up with the rumor about what happened behind the scenes of Alice with Linda Lavin / Polly Holliday; Polly Holliday got more popular than Linda as her side character Flo, got a spin-off that failed and never returned. Rumor was that Linda Lavin blocked her from returning. I wouldn't be surprised if there's similar rumors every time a popular side character outshines the supposed lead and gets a spin-off that fails.
  22. It's funny because he was obviously wrong here - if anything, the shows that don't begin as overly complicated were the ones that survived, even going to the 90s, it was Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place that survived. The shows that bit the dust were the ones that attempted to introduce 32 different plots before we got to know the characters properly.
  23. Well, it's over a month away and it's not like they have a lot of special effects to do. I'm guessing the premiere date has to do with the plots on the show at that point. I mean, normal soaps usually shoots with just a few weeks behind, not eight months...
  24. Lisa Rinna is the bigger name and will bring some curious eyeballs to the show on her own due to Housewives. Add that they might be able to include footage on the Housewives show and it's a win-win for all involved.
