How'd they get so rich? (Soap Company Edition)
Well, DAYS had the Andersons and their manufacturing company that we discussed in the Behind the Scenes thread the other day. Ironically, as the other shows started to add companies due to the success of prime time soaps it seems like the Andersons just faded away at the end of the 70s/start of the 80s. Anderson Manufacturing was somewhat kept on the show until the mid/late-80s when it was burnt down never to be mentioned again? Today we have... Basic Black, which has an office. No, literally, they just have one office. They do fashion... things... something?

Days: April 2021 Discussion Thread
I hardly think it's odd that some of the older cast members might not want to film at the moment. If anything I'm surprised that the Hayes' keep filming (especially Bill!).

Days: April 2021 Discussion Thread
I'm guessing this means Linsey will be back eventually? People did speculate that she needed a break because of personal issues and it does seem a bit too consciously open-ended to have Sarah gone for good, though I guess they could recast.

So, what was Sarah's exit storyline? Did Kristen send her off to China?

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
I would've (re-)introduced them via Anderson Manufactoring - hell, I just realised that I don't even know what they were manufactoring, but I guess Basic Black, Gabi Chic or any of the various businesses in Salem etc could've had stuff manufactured by them. Whatever that may be in the land of soap opera vagueness (not saying I necessarily want them to revive the Anderson family, but with returns being popular...).

The Andersons always have fascinated me because obviously they seemed like such a presence in the 70s, even down to having a large company which would've supposedly kept a lot of Salem's population employed. For them to just go out on a complete whimper is odd. That they never tried to resurrect them was also odd. Maybe someone should tell Ron to throw in a Anderson manufacturing reference lol.

ABC: ‘All My Children’: Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Developing Primetime Version
That article is from January 8th. Queens, National Parks and The Wonder Years reboot is casting, so they all seem like a go. No word on Pine Valley, but it doesn't look like it'll get a pilot order this round...

DAYS Promo: Week of 3/29/21
Is Jan back or is it just a April 1st appearance?

DAYS Promo: Week of 3/29/21
Don't get why they're making a promo for the April Fool's episode to be honest.

Days recast
Well, Alison is staying for a year at least supposedly.

Days recast
I'm amazed that even with corona restrictions and shutdowns they still manage to be three months ahead already. Still, it's better than eight months ahead I guess...

If Pine Valley is picked up and a sucess. Is their any soap you would bring back. And how would you do it?
They could always just recreate the Pasadena opening:

ABC: ‘All My Children’: Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Developing Primetime Version
We haven't heard anything about a pilot being cast or filmed, so that's more likely. If it's picked up it's looking more and more like it won't be for the fall considering ABC has some pilots that are currently getting ready to film.

Days: 3/22/2021 Weekly Preview
It literally just looks like Horton Town Square with some church benches and a window thrown in. They didn't even bother to put steps up to the podium! I guess they could use the excuse that they're still renovating from the Ben / Ciara wedding disaster, but you know they won't acknowledge it.

‘Days of our Lives’ Wins 2021 Writers Guild Award for Daytime Drama
I think DAYS has the best break-down writers and probably delivers the best "day-to-day" episodes on a regular basis. So fair enough, but I wouldn't hand the award to Ron...

Days: March 2021 Discussion Thread
Wouldn't surprise me tbh. Isn't John Aniston shooting all his scenes from a make-shift set at home? That explains why the DiMera set might've gotten the make-over since they probably saw no point in using the proper Kiriakis mansion set.

ABC: ‘Queens’: Hip-Hop Drama Pilot
I agree - I'm looking forward to this pilot tbh as it's my cup of tea, but they're trying waaaay too hard with some of the names on there.

Eurovision Song Contest 2021
Swedish final tonight - arguably the frontrunners seem to be: Eric Saade - Every Minute (came third in Eurovision 2011 with Popular previously): Charlotte Perelli - Still Young (previously won Eurovision 1999 with Take Me To Your Heaven; finished 18th in 2008 with Hero) The Mamas - In The Middle (won last year with Move, obviously didn't represent Sweden because co-vid): Tusse - Voices (new to the competition, has had cross-over appeal in airplay):

It's a bit odd since he was a long-running character that seemed fairly popular. I assume it was partly down to them not needing a spoiler in the John/Marlena/Roman relationship and I guess they already had a resident attorney with Mickey. Of course, 1986-1993 Jed Allen was busy with Santa Barbara anyway, so I guess Don Craig was just allowed to fade.

P&G Shows Around the World
A lot of it is likely down to the fact that a lot of countries (especially smaller ones) didn't get proper commercial channels until the mid-80s, so the room for airing US soap operas were just limited. A lot of countries only had one or two tv channels which were state owned/funded for the longest time and the amount of international productions they'd buy in were limited. I think Bold & The Beautiful got lucky that it was a new soap when all of a sudden lots of commercial channels started appearing in Europe and they needed to fill their schedules along with Bill Bell's aggressive marketing of the show to these channels. Guiding Light was aired in quite a few countries, though I don't think it stuck around for long, but there was an attempt to sell it: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044265/releaseinfo#akas

I hope that Paulina as a character doesn't go the same way as Dominique on Dynasty - ie introducing a strong black female character who really only fills the part of being a strong black female character and won't have much involvement in storylines. I hope they attempt to integrate her into the fabric of DAYS and this is not an in-and-out.

Primetime Soaps
According to TVTango... http://www.tvtango.com/series/monroes_1995/episodes 1 - 10.8/19 2 - 6.8/10 3 - 5.6 4 - 5 5 - 4.9 No wonder it was pulled. I guess all soap opera coverage went to Central Park West that season (that also flopped).
