  1. Similar thing with "Lou Grant" which was blamed on Edward Asner being outspoken, but when you look at the week-to-week numbers you can see it was absolutely dependent on its lead-in (House Calls, which in turns was dependent on how M*A*S*H would perform). This lead to Lou Grant being all over the place in the weekly rankings - it could leap frog into the top 20 if House Calls did well, but also hit as low as #58 if it was put behind repeats or the lead-in just didn't perform well. With ratings it hit as low as a 10.9 on May 3rd, 1982. There's really no mystery as to why it was cancelled.
  2. Oh, I had no idea Plex had a channel too. Much handier. I wonder what's the hold up with the US. I'd think Hulu would be the obvious streamer to put it on there.
  3. It is interesting that they're still out there pushing the reboot idea which I just assumed was dead. I know the One Tree Hill reboot pretty much seemed to have died a death amid cast squabbles.
  4. I genuinely believe the marriage controversy had very little to do with it - I mean, after the rural purge CBS was kind of courting "controversy" with the Norman Lear shows. It also aired in the same season where Maude had an abortion, so CBS was at that point not trying to be a conservative network even if it's what it's mostly known as today. TvObscurities actually has a good archive of the 1972-73 ratings. Here's the night where the series finale aired: All in the Family: 34.0/54 Bridget Loves Bernie: 21.5/33 Mary Tyler Moore: 25.6/41 Bob Newhart: 23.6/33 So by the end of the run, it had cratered to the point Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart was out-rating it. The whole "religious groups got it cancelled" is a good story, but it is just that.
  5. Yes, the first half of the season (week 1-12), Bridget Loves Bernie averaged at 25.5 and All in the Family 32.7. By the end of the season Bridget Loves Bernie was averaging a 24.2, while All in the Family 33.3. Mary Tyler Moore had a 21.8 rating for the first half of the season, 23.6 by the end of it. Similar with Bob Newhart - 19.5 at the beginning of the season, 21.8 by the end of the season. So all comedies on the night were in an upward trajectory except Bridget Loves Bernie. Week of November 20-26 1972, All in the Family rated #1, Bridget Loves Bernie at #10 and Mary Tyler More at #14.
  6. I remember seeing the actual week-to-week ratings and it was more akin one of those "satellite" comedies on NBC's "Much Watch Thursdays" in the 90s. Frontloaded and sandwiched between two hits, but likely weak on its own. I think the controversy from religious groups just make a for a better story though. But in all honesty, network execs aren't naive - they knew before putting it on air that they were going to catch heat from those groups.
  7. A lot of it probably had to do with who the father of the baby was, Ryan O'Neal. I'd assume that the producers might've been willing to work around it, but from what I gather they wanted an extended maternity leave I guess and not to be working as much as a soap would require.
  8. Leigh Taylor Young initially had a seven year contract, but got pregnant and they released her. So there was likely a long-term plan for the character that got quickly dumped in order to write her out before she started showing.

  10. I've been checking this endlessly and it seems like they've removed it from the banner for now, but it's still in the description that they're going to release DAYS episodes from three different seasons. Did they put it up there before they had all the pieces in place?
  11. Poor Finder of Lost Loves. It actually did as well as it could under the circumstances, but Love Boat was dying at this point. It was very formulatic though - this, Glitter, Love Boat and Hotel pretty much followed the same formula. The Aaron Spelling shine had definitively worn off by the next season, so I'm not surprised they nixed the Mr & Mrs Ryan pilot.
  12. My first thought was the bisexual storyline in 2x04 (aired October 24th, 1984). Otherwise since it has Gary Coleman dressed like Indiana Jones it would probably be around Halloween. Maybe they had a good slate of guest stars in the November sweeps?
  13. I mean, it was in development for NBC, then got moved over to Peacock and then sidelined when Law & Order: Organized Crime happened. I guess with the current administration they wouldn't revive the idea, but it's certainly something Dick Wolf has already pitched.
  14. Maybe we'll finally get Law & Order: Hate Crimes now.
  15. I finally sat down and watched the pilot of Berrenger's and it's fairly easy to see why it failed. Just like Paper Dolls, there's simply too many characters and it feels like stepping into a soap circa season 3. Ultimately, I think trying to do the upstairs, downstairs thing doesn't really work when there's a lack of natural interactions in their home environment - the same with Paper Dolls, it just ends up feeling like two different shows rolled into one. I think it would've been a better idea to pick a focus (either the wealthy Berrenger's or the people on the floor) and then expand. I will say though I did love Anita Morris's character Barbara the moment she stepped onto the scene - she really deserved bigger roles! I do wonder though if we'll ever get the final two episodes, as I've only ever seen the first ten episodes circulated. By the way, is this a young Michael Michele (8 minutes into the pilot)? It's just a non-speaking extra part, so it explains why it wouldn't be listed on her IMDB page.
  16. Honestly, if they're that far ahead then they could use a bit of a production break so they don't end up in a Days of our Lives situation. Soaps shouldn't be more than three months ahead, but preferably more like two months.
  17. TMZHeather Locklear & Lorenzo Lamas Are Dating: Check Out Fi...No, it's not 1992 ... but Heather Locklear and Lorenzo Lamas are in the throes of a '90s reunion that's turned romantic, dating secretly for months, and TMZ has pics of them all loved up in Las Vegas.
  18. Falcon Crest's height was pretty much from the moment Ana Alicia appears as Melissa to about half-way through season 4 when they suddenly got cold feet about the nazi storyline. Nixing that storyline just destabilized the show and obviously from there on it seemed like CBS couldn't stop tinkering with it, probably thinking they were doing so in order for it to retain more of Dallas's audience. I can't help to wonder if Falcon Crest wouldn't have been better off moving to a new night circa season 3. It probably wouldn't have put up the impressive numbers it did post-Dallas, but I could see it being a nice mid-level performer. Maybe it wouldn't have gone on until season 9, but on the other hand I could've seen it being able to chug along and end on its own terms without the pressure to retain Dallas's massive audience.
  19. Jaclyn, Shelley and Tanya did Love Boat. Tanya also did Vega$ and Fantasy Island. I'm surprised none of them turned up on his 90s shows since he did love casting veterans in "parents" roles. Maybe they were offered but not interested - seems to me the OG trio and Cheryl were done with doing Spelling productions post-Charlie's Angels.
  20. Old wigs!? 🤪 But seriously, nice to hear them get along.
  21. Maybe Kate's chilled a bit now that Farrah's gone?
  22. Just as a side note, the channel was previously @LiquidSoapTV and the last capture on Archive dot org was on February 26th:' https://web.archive.org/web/20260226190736/https://www.youtube.com/@LiquidSoapTV So this at least confirms that this is a recent change and not something that happened a year ago and they forgot about it.
  23. Honestly, I think it's down to Heather - for all her personal troubles - is pretty chill and doesn't have a huge ego. Despite a lot of promotion focusing on her, Amanda actually took the back seat a lot, especially in the first three seasons. Add that people like Darren Star complemented her ability to leave whatever [!@#$%^&*] was going on in her life at the door and just be professional on set.
  24. I don't think it's entirely random - season 58 is likely the latest season where Peacock's license has run out, season 52 is literally a decade ago (ugh...) and season 30 contains one of the most notorious storylines the show has had. I hope they'll start adding season 1 at one point, but considering the work that went into The Doctors to transfer the episodes it might be a while.
  25. Eh, to be fair for better or worse it is one of the shows most notorious storylines and have even gotten new momentum with the Ryan Gosling story. It makes sense, plus the older seasons might need more cleaning up before being able to put them out digitally. As long as they get going on building an online archive of their past seasons, I'll be happy.
