  1. Oooh, right, now I get it. So you mean each show would get subforums instead? Yeah, that sounds good to be honest. It could allow more expansive discussions. Plus, as someone who is frequently several months behind on something like Days of our Lives it would be helpful since a lot of the old monthly threads get locked. I thought you were going to just stop having threads on the actual site so that part was a bit confusing. Like it was going to become one of those terrible imageboards or something.
  2. The main issue is that he's writing like he's stalling. It's like he decides that a few "big" things (that often turn out to be not-so-big) should happen in an episode and everything else is just a stalling tactic to get to the "big" scenes. It's not like these long back-and-forth scenes really does any character building or try to reveal motivations behind their actions.
  3. I think the issue is that people like to point to one factor, but that's just not the case here. It's not the Laura mystery ending - nor is it one particular storyline. The truth is that the Evelyn Marsh story is like one or two scenes per episode. Maybe at the high point three - it wasn't taking over the show to the point you'd tune out if everything else was going swell. But as I said, the show lost its footing and balance. Up until solving the mystery, there was a balance between silly, supernatural and mystery. It really doesn't regain that ground until late season 2. I don't think they really "reunited" them as such, but more retconned it a bit. I watched episode 26 today and I found it odd how Bobby just appeared talking Shelly into being in the Miss Twin Peaks contest. Next time I rewatch I might have to take note what happens between them in episodes 20 to 26. Shelly also has her brief moment with Gordon Cole here, but that was probably down to David Lynch having a crush on Mädchen Amick (who wouldn't, tbh), lol.
  4. To be fair, I don't think it's one storyline as much as there's a bit too much silliness going on. At one point you have the Nadine story running, the black widow story running, the James-in-a-noir running, the Lucy baby mess and her having Andy / Dick fostering that child... it's just a bit too much. Knowing that the black widow plot was supposed to have supernatural elements makes a lot more sense. There seems to be hints of it early on (her saying that she's always had bad luck etc). But then they just don't go there at all. Same with the kid being fostered and having "bad luck" with his parents / care-takers dying. It makes me wonder if there was an entire aborted story that was meant to tie things together better. But ultimately, I think the combo of just too many silly storylines that seemingly didn't go anywhere plus the 9PM slot bombing out with China Beach on Saturday killed the show. Twin Peaks was actually doing OK for the first part of the season for where it was. I don't think ABC expected miracles since they pretty much seemed to take "low-rated but critically acclaimed" shows when scheduling the night (Young Riders / China Beach / Twin Peaks). Had the show stayed within the 7.0-8.0 rating it probably would've survived for another season. I think the issue was that they didn't ever plan for Laura's killer to be revealed so they had no back up plan, so they ended up faltering a bit. The season does improve towards the end, but unfortunately, with no solid show in the 9PM slot to keep Twin Peaks' ratings up during that rough patch people just stopped watching. I thought this was interesting: Because yeah, there was even a scene between Bobby and Shelley that read like a break up scene, but then it's just sort of ignored a few episodes later. I guess you can just reason they had a fight and got over it, but it's never acknowledged iirc.
  5. I think the issue with Frankie is that for me, she seemed to fizzle out largely as a character post-baby. The Sweet Sixteen storyline didn't seem as much as storyline as a way for the characters to get a central hub to hang out at. I really didn't miss her once she was gone for that reason - she had not been providing a lot of stuff to the sister dynamic for a while when she was written off imho. I don't know when Julianne Phillips flagged the producers that she wouldn't renew her contract when it was up, so that might've been a part of it. I'd assume by the time they introduced Charley they knew she was out the door.
  6. To be fair, when the switch happened you had barely known Reed #1 so it wasn't that jarring. It feels like a tradition to switch up barely recurring characters personalities once they get more storylines. The issue is that once Reed #2 had not only an established actress, she also had a solid personality from seasons 2-5. So when Reed #3 happened it was just jarring - her actions made no sense from what she was portrayed as earlier. It was never even properly explained what changed except she just kind of woke up one day and decided to be a spoiled brat again essentially.
  7. Yeah, but it's more that there's clearly talented people out there that's getting run over by Tyler Perry because he delivers low-grade trash for cheap, lol. I always wish for talented people to come up ahead and a lot of times that just doesn't happen with a bit of push!
  8. I'm so terribly sorry, I really am. I never understood the whole "white guilt" thing, but the fact that Tyler Perry succeeds and a lot of other African-American talent don't - that are undoubtedly more creative, imaginative and possibly David Lynchian - makes me feel a bit guilty. Yet I can't stop watching this absolute trash garbage piece of [!@#$%^&*] show. It's awful and I feel ashamed. Like my mom loves to say - it is what it is.
  9. From memory, it's absolutely brutal (in the best / worst way), so I'm both excited and terrified of seeing it on the big screen!
  10. I've been re-watching seasons 1+2 - both to cleanse my soul from Tyler Perry, who might be black Satan and just because they're showing Fire Walk With Me at the local theatre next week. And man. Those first post-Laura episodes are rough. Luckily, James is cool, he's always been cool.
  11. I like how few days have technically passed since the pilot and now Jeffrey's full-on gay and has white boys throwing themselves all over him while his mother is commenting sarcistically on it. Also, let's talk about Veronica's character evolution from a "oh, I don't want my son to be gay" to a full on psycho bitch. Or how all female characters tend to end up being psycho bitches. Then there's how everyone in love with Jeffrey seems to become psycho like that cop. Or rather, every character are just completely unhinged for... reasons. Also, how is that GoFundMe for Tyler Perry's therapy bill going? He might be rich, but man, he's going to go broke trying to untangle whatever is going on in his head. It's okay to be gay!!!
  12. What's your fav intro? Mine is stuck between cycle 16: Which bombed and gave us "ALL STARS". But there's the classic:
  13. 44 episode season. That's all. And it's all endless conversations with a few explosions and falls down stairs. I feel the plight of African-Americans, I really do. Because why do you watch this trash? Why don't we give space and money to talented people? Also, Tyler Perry is GAY and he needs to DEAL WITH IT. God-[!@#$%^&*]-damnit.
  14. I've kept watching The Haves and the Have Nots and I'm so sorry. I finally understand the African-American plight. Because why are you watching trash like this when you could be watching better trash!!! This show is awful. I want to go HAM like Veronica every time I watch this show and mind you, I have over 50 episodes left!!! I hate you.
  15. Threads are better because it gives the power to the users to keep it structured in a way moderators and admins cannot. The recent Primetime Soap thread and Sisters thread is a good example - I had no idea there was one for Sisters so went into the PTS thread until another user pointed towards the Sisters thread. And how would a threadless system work? It doesn't. It's good, it's sorting and sometimes you have to trust your users to redirect each other.
  16. Whine whine whine. I was on a reality show and I've had it the worst. Joking, but only slightly because Jay Manuel has to be the single-handedly most annoying person in the world. "Nothing is my fault" is both his and my motto.
  17. It cracks me up that Central Park West rips are still largely those I did in the early 2000s. I need to get a better tv ripper and crack this open:
  18. ...
  19. God, I'm so horrible that I keep thinking that Tyler Perry is fascinating from a self-hating gay perspective. Veronica in The Haves and the Have Nots is clearly his mother stand-in. Yet, Tyler, I'm sure your mom isn't that hateful. She's just a camp parody of the homophobic mother without much effort put behind her motivations. Also, why on earth are people watching Tyler Perry shows?
  20. Oh stuff like China Beach does occupy a weird space in time. The Vietnam war certainly did push a lot of shows that weren't necessarily that mainstream. Also, Dana Delaney has a great plastic surgeon. She looks amazing to this day.
  21. So... China Beach anyone?
  22. I mean, he's literally one person pushing out prime time soaps where he obviously can't deal with his own issues in his head. I'm sorry, but am going to hold the man responsible who wrote a scene where they proclaimed they're a "top"? I just can't take this man seriously and that goes for his work. Maybe black gay men feel differently, but this white gay doesn't.
  23. I told no lie. Because [!@#$%^&*] me, it's getting worse. How on earth does a show that's bad get worse?
