Chances
I put on the first few episodes and in all honesty, I can see why this bombed. There's really nothing remarkable about it and the theme is hilariously mismatched with the "sexy" tone they're trying to go with. It's obvious that someone pitched this like "a soap for the 90s - sexy, hot and hip" but then those are just buzzwords. It's not exactly bad or the worst soap I've seen, just very unremarkable.

ALL: The First Year of a Soap - Growing Pains, Teething Issues, etc...
Spin-offs only really work when they're not just an extension of the mothership. Early on it just seemed like Port Charles was General Hospital Pt II, so essentially an attempt at a 30 minute extension without directly tagging it onto the mothership (as AW had shown, that experiment didn't end up well). You could argue something like The Bold and the Beautiful is a de facto spin-off from The Young and the Resless, even down to similarish names. But still different enough to be interesting to be separate entities.

Yeah, I 110% believe Lisa on this. There's been stories about RKK from both DOOL and Another World. I don't think it's a coincidence he got the boot once Kristian Alfonso got back - she definitively would've had the power to get him fired pronto. It's a shame from a story perspective, because as I said it took away any question who Bo would end up with. But of course, his abusive ass deserved to get booted. It's just a shame it didn't happen earlier to maybe establish something between Lisa and Peter Reckell before Kristian made her comeback as Hope.

DAYS: February 2026 Discussion Thread
They definitively could play a bit with perspectives on these small sets instead of having the background lead directly out to a balcony (which is never used anyway). Then again, I suspect the reason they do these "box" apartment sets is because they're just easier to redress and re-use which they obviously have to do (ironically, I think Beyond the Gates have the opposite issue where they've done somewhat unique living spaces, but it makes them harder to re-dress for other purposes).

Falcon Crest
They didn't even save money on Ana Alicia's firing - she was infamously contracted for 22 episodes as Melissa Agretti, so got paid for those and then when the show started bombing they had her sign another contract to appear as doppelgänger Sam, essentially giving her double salary for five episodes. It's the absolute dumbest move the show ever did - even if they wanted to write her off at the end of season eight, it could've been a season long storyline and help usher in the rest of the Agretti clan.

Knots Landing
Indeed lol. My dad says that turtle necks are his best friend as he grows older. I don't tend to think Constance has had much done, except for I'm sure a good dermatologist. She's styling herself very well.

Primetime Soaps
Try frying your brain by watching his shows (if you can call them that) back-to-back. Veronica, the character, is everything I hate about him. As is "Colby". For some reason The Haves and the Have Nots live rent free in my brain, yet there's no one occupying it because there's no real characters in his soaps, which is a hard feat to beat.

Primetime Soaps
Isn't it fascinatin how you can have a sentence in your head and then you can't let it go until you say it? Anyway here's mine: TYLER PERRY GET SOME GOD DAMN THERAPY FOR YOUR ISSUES That felt good.

Primetime Soaps
I have so many thoughts about "The Haves and the Have Nots", however I'll keep it to myself...

Primetime Soaps
Besides me shouting at mr Perry to get therapy, him introducing Colby - a "fierce gay man" has to be one of the most cringe things that happened. Is this what Tyler Perry thinks constitutes as a self-assured gay man? A skank who runs around and is just annoying? What the hell went wrong with him? Like, mentally?

Peyton Place
Isn't it just the same person that had an obsession with Marcy Walker for some reason? We all have our own little special interests, I guess.

Twin Peaks
Thinking about it, my least favourite part of Twin Peaks is the episode(s) after the Leland reveal / Maddie's murder. Why? Because first it becomes almost like they're giving Cooper an epiphany - "sorry I've been mucking about in this town for two weeks, but now I know how to solve it" out of nowhere for plot contrivance. Another murder happens and barely anyone but Donna and James react to it, even in passing. Even worse - Leland's wake. We see no real conflict or struggling to grasp the revelation that respected lawyer Leland Palmer not only molested his daughter, but also murdered her. It's actually frustrating to watch how little of the actual aftermath for the town citizens we get.

Generations Discussion Thread
Bless. I don't see anything wrong with trying to ride the coattails of Beyond the Gates, but realistically, outside that infamous catfight, are anyone really interested in more Generations? By all accounts it was a bit of a mess from the get-go that sort of started improving towards the end, but less than two years on air and a bit of that time dodgy is not a good ground for a reboot. With that said, the sensible thing would be to try and get it on something like BET+ or TUBI or something and see if it can take off from there.

Primetime Soaps
Thanks! I think Beacon Hill is one of those things that's more a curiosity, but once it's seen people will be... disappointed.

Primetime Soaps
See, that's the opposite of what I love about prime time soaps. Well, most of them.

Primetime Soaps
Sorry, but every character's theme on Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots should be the never-remembered track on Robyn's third ill-thought out third album that was supposed to be her US launch: P-S-Y-C-H-O I thought that you oughta know! Why could you just don't let me be? You're turning psycho on me! You better rethink your life! I'll never be your wife... I feel just like Janet Lee, you're turning...

Primetime Soaps
OK, Wyatt has now admitted the priest gave him a "banana foster" and that he wanted his mother to hug him and I can't stop laughing. Why is this show so awful?

Primetime Soaps
Have you ever got caught watching something you're thinking "man there's just too many episodes"? These characters have no internal lives, so nothing they do is ever compelling - even the whole Hanna / Kathryn relationship that's supposed to be heartwarming. You just end up thinking that all of these characters should DIE because they're just all ultimately wusks of characters. Sorry, at some point I will stop writing about The Haves and the Have Nots, approximately when I run out of episodes. It's just like eating pure sugar - at one point you'll get a tooth infection and then it starts bleeding into your brain...

Twin Peaks
They did, but I think that post-season one we barely saw any of these characters in high school so it was hard to see their connection. We only really saw a bit in the first half of season two with Nadine, but then the focus was on her (and Mike). You'd be excused for entirely forgetting that Shelly, Donna and Audrey were supposed to be the same age (along with James, Bobby, Laura).
