  1. Danfling. The Girl from Peyton Place came about early in the show's run and episodes were shown on PP when Betty went to New York. The spin off was set but then for whatever reason the decision was made to expand PP to 3 nights a week rather than use the 3rd night for the new show. Have a read through the Peyton Place thread for more detail.
  2. Possibly the most famous soap opera portrait
  3. Not the best portrait to represent Katherine Chancellor
  4. "HILLTOP HOUSE" with Bess Johnson Colgate -Palmolive -Peet Co. WABC-CBS, Monday through Friday, 5:45 -6 p.m. Benton & Bowles, Inc. WARM HUMAN INTEREST SERIAL WITH ORPHANAGE LOCALE, WELL WRITTEN AND ACTED. Bess Johnson, long known as the voice of "Lady Esther ", has a neat little vehicle in this "Hilltop House ", authored by Addy Richton and Lynn Stone under the nom de plume of "Adelaide Marston ". The house in question is an orphanage, and Miss Johnson is the matron in charge. Opening episode lost no time in setting the scene and arousing immediate listener interest and sympathy. Both the script and the writing stood out as well above the average serial. Characters heard on the first program included a colored cook and some likeable kids. Drama enters the picture with impending likelihood of the orphanage having to close shop. Just then word comes of a stranger having fainted near the orphanage gates, and this supplies the note of suspense to carry over into the next chapter. Cast of the serial also includes Carleton Young, Irene Hubbard, Jay Austin. John Moore, Janice Gilbert and Jimmy Donnelly. Miss Johnson assists on the commercials, which are not overdone
  5. Victoria Newman scored 2 portraits in her office. What happened to the first one?
  6. The Doctors Dan Clay ??? threatened to blackmail Matt and Maggie, sued hospital for $300,000 Oct 63 Andy Sharp ??? June 64 Margaret Sharp ??? June 64
  7. But they don't need a courtroom. Remember those dramatic scenes of Amanda in court played out against a wall ?
  8. Thanks Jason for those articles. I wonder if Susan only agreed to a year in the first place? Maybe story wise they would have been better off biting the bullet and killing off Laura, leaving Bill a grieving widower, Kind hearted Maggie feels sorry for him and becomes a mother figure to Jennifer and they get closer. Jealous Mickey finds it difficult to handle...
  9. Re Marla/Phyllis I can see her as a member of Stuart Brooks circle throwing shade at newlywed Liz Foster Brooks and her shortcomings as a hostess at a gathering at the Brooks home. Nov 1980 Stuart’s rich friends enjoyed Liz’s cocktail party but she feared she doesn’t with in with them. Pure conjecture on my part.
  10. A question regarding Susan Oliver. How did viewers of the time regard her portrayal? She had big shoes to fill but was an accomplished actress. Signing her was quite a coup for Days as she was a respected primetime actress. What were the circumstances regarding her short stay? Was there negative viewer reaction or did Susan not adjust to daytime?
  11. That brings up another issue. Yes, at first, Victor wore 'cowboy' clothing. I guess they wanted to portray a certain image. It made it seem Victor was more interested in the ranch than his businesses? At some point that costuming was dropped. Anyone have any thoughts/memories?
  12. Agree. He fumbles, mumbles and stumbles. He acts so interested in GH past but has zilch knowledge beyond superficial stuff.
  13. Those Y&R roles are great but of course raise questions eg Marla Adams as Phyllis Palmer???
  14. When is this from - 1972? We have Judy Lewis as Susan, Lynne Adams as Amy, David Ackroyd as Kevin, Robert Loggia as Frank. Not sure about the woman with long dark hair, the guy in the mustard blazer or the man in check shirt and blue vest. I'm sure one of you will know!
  15. Thank you-they're great. This must be just before Lynne Adams returned as Leslie.
  16. Thanks so much for this. So I assume that is Carol Ann talking to David and Ellen. Talk about SORAS. She is only about 6 in real time. Wonder when the created by Irna credit was dropped? And Don Hastings gets top billing over Helen and Don. And Eileen has yet to have the 'and Eileen Fulton as Lisa' billing. This is post 73 strike when Irna did not return.Only Wally Mathews remains I think from Irna's last reign.(and of course Kim) Was Kim mentioned by Jennifer before she arrived? Or was she suddenly talked about a few weeks before her debut.
  17. This has been discussed before. To my mind once Brenda left that was the last character that called her Kay. Maybe Mitchell Sherman continued after that? Did Victor call her Kay in early days? I only remember Nikki calling her Katherine. I seem to recall Dina calling her Kay ? We'd have to check some 80's eps to see what John and others called her.
  18. Charles Grodin True Story Tommy Elson 3/21/60 Susan Brown True Story Amy Carlton 3/21/60 Biff McGuire True Story Dexter Bryon 3/21/60
  19. Thursday 29th January, 1981 Beverly Garland made her first appearance on the show in the role of Kay Thurston.
  20. In the sense that she would be playing against Snapper -yes. Either they were having trouble recasting Chris or decided that it would be best to have some space b/w actresses. Chris' absence made it a natural that a new woman would come into Snapper's life. That triangle was played a bit when Lynne Topping came on as Chris but then DH started his leaves of absence and Chris and Snapper never got a big story again. And Casey was never a viable rival for Chris, Her cold personality was intrinsic to the character and Roberta played it well but that limited her worth as a romantic heroine.
  21. The lack of sets/extras along with terrible story choices really sabotages the show. As per usual Allie's job at Jabot is a success. Why is Josh afraid to let any of the characters experience career setbacks? Maybe because there might be some drama to be mined? We can't have that... BITD we would have seen Allie in the lab and there might be a mini story of her initial struggle. Maybe there's some resentment from a co worker about an Abbott turning up. Perhaps Allie unintentionally rubs people up the wrong way. There's some mix up and she gets the blame. She wants to quit but Jack/ashley refuses. Allie finds out a co worker is siphoning off supplies. SOMETHING. Not just her chatting to Noah.
  22. James Goodwin Dallas unknown role pre GL
