  7. The promo says 'next week' so that portion of the tape (at least) was from March 87
  8. But it has been repeatedly stated that Eric/Victor was going to be killed off so with Beau leaving also that would have left Julia as a newly widowed isolated character. Just another puzzle from that time...
  9. This always puzzled me as all the actors contracts had to be renegotiated when the show went to an hour (thus allowing Brenda and John to exit) So Beau presumably signed a new contract. But he was gone by mid year. If he only agreed to sign for 6 months then why would Bill Bell give him his first real frontburner romance with Julia, knowing it would have to be cut short? If he signed a standard 3 yr deal, why did Bill choose to dump Brock at the end of a cycle? We know that originally Victor was going to die (I'm sure they were planning a Paul/Cassandra/George type story) so obviously story plans changed, but why did Brock lose out?
  10. That's because Lance and Victor never interacted.
  11. I think it was a couple of weeks in May. From a May synopsis Lance decided to return to Paris after a whirlwind renewed courtship of Lorie, whom he feels needs her freedom. It really didn't make much sense but Bill had lost hold of the story by that point with the introduction of Jonas, Leslie's amnesia,Lucas romancing Casey and Lorie getting involved with Micheal. I would have not bothered with Jonas/Pris as there was enough happening in GC without that tangent. With John McCook leaving, maybe they should have killed off Lance. That would have caused much angst. Lorie could lean on Lucas. Les could fight for him as she mourns for her true love and feel that Lorie is just using Lucas a substitute for Lance.Vanessa would be devastated etc Then maybe in that 2 week return, it is revealed Lance is alive and for some soapy reason wasn't on that plane or survived etc. That well used plot was much fresher back then, And then a recast Lance returns? or not?
  12. Allen Fawcett (Kelly EON)was put on a holding contract to play Paul if negotiations with Doug broke down. Imagine if that had happened and we had a new Paul as well.
  13. That does sound a bit clunky. Maybe the family should have been brought in more slowly. Perhaps some scenes with Paul and Mary, with mentions of the others, then Carl joins the group followed by Steve and Patty. Carl could have already been seen in police scenes, Mary and Paul could talk about him and viewers could connect him to them before they are actually seen together. It really was an interesting time for the show that I could examine endlessly.
  14. For the 79/80 season A Lorimar spinoff from Eight is Enough, in which the older son played by Grant Goodeve goes traveling around the country with a young woman reporter. Guess with such a large cast on Eight, they figured they could lose David and have a known character in a new show. However, ABC did not go ahead. Was there any plot on Eight that hinted at this spinoff?
  15. I've always felt that eliminating a queen in Wk 1 is a little unfair, so I think there should be no elimination in the first week to give everyone at least two chances to strutt their stuff and the audience to get to know them better. Maybe that could even be extended to maybe 4 weeks before the first elimination. During that time there could be some other reward or demerit that might come into play when eliminations begin.

  17. Of course, silly of me to forget. Some others Lana/Lisa on GH which Doug Marland wrapped up when he arrived in 78. Sonni/Solita on GL Jane Elliot's contract was up for renewal (no doubt with an increased salary) and Potter felt the expense was not worth it as the ratings had not increased so Jane was out. This was probably just one factor that came into play.
  18. Can't say I've ever heard that sort of negativity towards Bill Bell. Irna was certainly known to be eccentric and demanding but Bill always came across as more mellow. Obviously there is behind the scenes stuff that we are not privy to.
  19. Was Edge of Nights Josie and Serena the first time that plot was used ?
  20. Search for Tomorrow Connie Bronson Connie Passalacqua 1986 2 day role - nightclub critic who wrote negative review of Wilma Halliday. Passalacqua was soap reviewer 'Marlena de la Croix.'
  21. GH Bobbie was introduced as Barbara and seemed to be referred to by that name for a few weeks. Then she became Bobbie. I wonder how that was handled onscreen.? Perhaps Jackie got a scene where she talked about growing up as Bobbie but choosing Barbara when she went into nursing. Then beingtold that Bobbie was a fine name. The subtext was that she associated Bobbie with her hooker past. Was that choice made because Barbara Vining was returning and they didn't want two Barbara's onscreen?
