Guiding Light Discussion Thread
@P.J. 1989 had the pivotal events of Roger return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP. Those events would lead to GL finally hitting its stride after some pretty bad years. 1989-1991 Calhoun/Long/Curlee was GL's last golden era but unfortunately the ratings didn't reflect the quality of the show.

BTG: October 2025 Discussion Thread
BtG could go the Neil/Dru/Malcolm route with Jacob/Naomi/Izaiah. I'm thinking Izaiah and Kat though, Kat being a bougie princess and Izaiah being a bad boy.

Falcon Crest
I've pointed out before that Falcon Crest had the ingredients to be a great show but the execution squandered the potential and I think network interference and backstage drama played a big part in that. The regime changes pretty much line up with the trajectory of the series. Season 1: Wealthy Waltons in modern day California wine country. Good start that builds the foundation. Season 2 and 3: Dallas with grapes/James Bond hybrid. Peak. Seasons 4 and 5: Dallas with grapes/James Bond hybrid in season 4 and starts tanking during the final 10 episodes. Dallas with grapes/Miami Vice hybrid in season 5 and tanking fully cemented. Seasons 6 and 7: High octane action-packed thrill ride. Season 6 still tanking. Season 7 starts going off the rails. Season 7 feels like the natural end point. Season 8: Off the rails plus budget mode. Not necessary and chore to get through. Season 9: Off the rails plus budget mode. Not necessary and painful to get through.

Yeah, no. He didn't even deserve the first two that he got and I chalk those up to weakness in the competition, but that's neither here nor there for this thread.

The Izaiah actor is giving me fake ass Shemar energy. Perhaps Jacob/Izaiah might be educated professional/troublemaking brothers with a contentious relationship in the vein of early Neil/Malcolm.

Falcon Crest
Agree. That storyline was a James Bond/Raiders of the Lost Ark mashup.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
I did not like Ridge taking advantage of Caroline after she had overindulged in champagne, especially when considering she had been raped a year earlier. In Bill Bell's defense that was during the writer's strike so who knows if it was even his idea. I only recently discovered that Thorne shooting Ridge in the aftermath of finding out that Ridge and Caroline became involved and then not remembering the shooting was a redo of a Bill Bell Days storyline.

Murder, She Wrote
You're welcome @JoeCool Angela Lansbury had a career ranging from Golden Age Hollywood to Broadway to television, but for me her two signature roles will always be Jessica Fletcher and Mrs. Potts.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
You're welcome @soapfan770 NBC got too overconfident and they messed up Friday in 1986/87 with the move of Miami Vice to 9 pm head-to-head with Dallas. L.A. Law did not do the job at Friday 10 pm that NBC wanted it to (clobber Falcon Crest) so L.A. Law got moved to Thursday 10 pm where it ended up further weakening Knots Landing. It will forever not be funny that L.A. Law first Thursday episode was Jeanne Cooper first appearance as Gladys Becker. I see what you did there NBC, you're not fooling me. CBS messed up Thursday in 1986/87. 8 pm Simon & Simon was DOA head-to-head with The Cosby Show and CBS thought 9 pm Knots Landing would finish off The Colbys but it was instead weakened by Cheers. Eventually Simon & Simon moved back to 9 pm and Knots Landing moved back to 10 pm but the damage was already done.
