In my life, GL had two golden eras: 1976-1982 EP Potter and HW Dobsons/Marland (I wasn't alive for part of Potter/Dobsons though) and 1989-1991 EP Calhoun and HW Long/Curlee. I've accepted we'll probably never see Potter/Dobsons 1976-1978 episodes so any Potter/Dobsons episodes from 1979 and 1980 that surface are such a treat.

ALL: The First Year of a Soap - Growing Pains, Teething Issues, etc...
Brooke/Deacon/Bridget was Bradley Bell. Even Bradley has dusted off his father's work. I felt Bill Spencer Sr. original characterization was a villainous version of Stuart Brooks, but I don't think Bill Sr. was intended to be a villain. Bill Bell never really had a villain on B&B. Some may say Clarke was a villain, but I think his original characterization was cut from the Brad Carlton mold (employed by the business-owning family, has conflicts with the business-owning family's playboy son, pursues one of the daughters of the business-owning family).

When B&B began a good amount of the criticism towards it was that Bill Bell was dusting off 1970s and 1980s Y&R storylines. Acting-wise Bill Bell cast actors he worked with before (Susan Flannery on Days; John McCook, Lauren Koslow, James Storm on Y&R) as well as newcomers so it was a good balance. B&B first summer had pre-emptions due to Iran-Contra.

B&B 1987 and 1988 were the growing years. Remember too that nearly half of 1988 was writer's strike material. 1989 Sally Spectra arrival and B&B hit its stride.

Loved Dani getting all up in Silk Press Sheila's grill. Andre 🤤🥰 Vanessa and Joey, I did not need to see that freakiness. Vanessa is a nasty ho and Joey is just nasty period. Also knowing that Jon Lindstrom is 30 years older than Lauren Buglioli and the age difference is apparent just adds a whole other level of ick.

Ratings from the 1990s
You're welcome. I've pointed out in the Dallas thread that Larry Hagman wasn't so big and bad anymore when he lost the time slot twice to Urkel.

OMG yes, the Acapulco episodes and the Country Club episode were epic. I rushed home from school for the Acapulco episodes. Michael Zaslow should've gotten a Lead Actor nomination in 1991 for the Acapulco episodes. I believe the Acapulco episodes got Maureen Garrett a Supporting Actress nomination in 1991 but I haven't found anything online to verify. One Roger/Holly scene I'm trying to find the date of is when Roger shows up at Holly's house, admits that he still loves her, then kisses her, and its all witnessed by Gilly. I think it was sometime in late 1991 or early 1992.

July 1990-February 1991 GL saw some big cast departures (Kim Zimmer, Michael O'Leary, Kassie DePaiva, Robert Newman, Grant Aleksander, Beth Chamberlin) plus the HW change from Pamela Long to Nancy Curlee. Many thought GL was in for a rough patch but I thought the show improved. Sadly the ratings didn't reflect that.

Knots Landing
Constance McCashin was smart enough to realize that good roles for females past a certain age were few and far between (remember she was 40 in 1987 when Laura departed) thus changing her career path to one outside the entertainment industry.

Constance McCashin is 78 going on 79. Kim Langford is 71 going on 72. Neither of them have acted in years. If they've had anything done, it's not blatantly obvious and in your face, especially when compared to their castmates even though said castmates are a little older. If anything, being away from the entertainment industry takes off a lot of pressure in maintaining a certain look, at least in theory anyway.
