Sorry if I’m being prickly, as I just don’t want to argue about Serena. I’m not trying to diminish or make light of anything she endured in NYC in the past or suggest that things suddenly became easy for her. Certainly I may not be the most cogent in making my points at times, but I am not at odds with you. And certainly I’m not some privileged dude who can’t recognize when someone is being marginalized. Novak is loathed for a lot of reasons, but we can agree that his skin color isn’t one of them. This is… unusual.

It’s not that deep. All I am saying that Serena got crowd support during her CYGS hunt, and Novak might (perhaps mistakenly) think he could do the same. Not comparing their careers on any level beyond that superficial fact. Done with it lol.

He’s never had crowd support, especially in NY. He’s certainly underperformed at the USO over the years for a hard court slam, but if he can beat Federer again and again against ferociously partisan crowds… I’m sure he’s bummed considering his historic quest. And it’s not like Federer is actually there. As an aside: USO crowds used to hate Serena, for instance, but came around during her CYGS hunt. Where will Bianca Andreescu drop in the rankings if she loses this match?

All of the Slams can have obnoxious crowds, but the drunken US Open hooligans during the night matches take the cake. And the acoustics in those fishbowl stadiums don’t help.

Lance Bass wants to host a gay Bachelor, but c’mon it’s been tried (Lance even hosted a version!) and it would NEVER work. Speaking for gay men, the dynamics are completely different.
