  1. Getting back to the soap actors turned writers subject for a brief moment, I noticed another one. I was watching an ep of Loving on YT, one of the writers listed was Kathleen Tolan aka Mary Ryan Fenelli #3 on RH. She's since gone on to become a playwright, so I guess it's not too surprising. I also agree about Kathryn Hays. She was and still is a gorgeous woman - yet ATWT chose to make her look so frumpy. What a shame.
  2. Speaking of Ada's funeral, the scene that absolutely gets me every single time is when Rachel leaves the gathering to be alone for a moment in the garden and remembers how she and Ada discussed growing old. The thought of Ada having to be cared for by Rachel enraged her (Ada). Rachel said that when the time came, she would want to take care of her mother. As that flashback fades, we see Rachel back in the present, who breaks down in tears. That scene was beautifully written and brought to life in the very capable hands of Victoria Wyndham and Constance Ford. When Rachel takes her mother's face in her hands and tenderly strokes it, I was so moved by that unspoken bond. I also liked the ending credits, which was a montage of photos of Constance Ford - many of them taken with AW co-stars. Instead of the AW closing theme music, Tuck & Patti's "They Can't Take That Away From Me" played. Then the last frame had the "in loving memory of..." Frons, Lee, etc., wouldn't know good soap opera if it goosed them!!
  3. Sure - at least it didn't say so in the OLTL 30th Anniversary coffee table book.
  4. A shame, because Patti D'Arbanville was a dynamo when given good material. Her appearance on an early L&O episode as a sweatshop owner whose way of dealing with uncooperative kids by way of a hitman (who she was also cheating on her husband with) was absolutely chilling. The most chilling was the way she never showed remorse, rolling her eyes and staring down Michael Moriarty's EADA Stone. I don't remember the episode name, but it was from the beginning of third season - shortly before Paul Sorvino left and Jerry Orbach came in. If you all get a chance to watch it, do so.
  5. Amen!! With the very few exceptions of teen stories like Robin/Stone, I could care less about teen stories because most of them are badly written by writers who are clueless as to how REAL teens act. Speaking of acting, the people hired to play these teens were mostly cast for their looks and not their "talent". Meanwhile, the "mature" couples like Tom/Alice, Mac/Rachel, Carl/Rachel, Steve/Audrey, Joe/Ruth, Edward/Lila, CC/Sophia, Lionel/Augusta...they were sweet, loving, and were much more interesting both as couples and individuals than most of the characters polluting soaps today. It's people like Frons, Lee, Guza, etc., who have helped kill the genre.
  6. How long was RPG on the show before he defected to AMC?
  7. I thought Jesse was long gone by the time Danny appeared on the scene. I do remember that Drew was the daughter of Patti D'Arbanville's character, who had a thing with Buzz going for a little while. That's about it.
  8. According to The Ultimate Another World Trivia Book by Gerry Waggett, Charles Keating was indeed a hairdresser. In that same book, here is a funny anecdote about Mr. Keating: "The combination of playing Edmund the Bastard in King Lear and giving up smoking made Charles Keating (Carl Hutchins) more than a little irritable. Upon finding a pair of sneakers in the kitchen, he threw them into the backyard and admonished his two sons to learn how to put their things away. One of his sons pointed out that the sneakers were Keating's own and then offered to buy him a pack of cigarettes." LOL!!!!
  9. How did Drew exit the show? Tammy Blanchard was excellent in her Emmy-winning role of the younger version of Judy Garland in that miniseries from a few years back (as was Judy Davis, who also won an Emmy for playing the adult Judy Garland). Was TB the only actress to play Drew, or did GL recast after she left?
  10. His look (the long silver ponytail) and his Shakespearean style were so unique for daytime. I don't think we'll ever see anyone quite like him on a soap again, sad to say.
  11. Yes, it has been confirmed by We Love Soaps. He was 72.
  12. Now that would have been an interesting avenue to explore. It was already interesting how the Danny/Michelle story was written at the outset - part of him wanted to get back at her for killing his brother while the other part had fallen for her.
  13. Yup, it's up on We Loves Soaps. too. I imagine Vicky Wyndham is especially devastated right now - I know they were the best of friends off camera.
  14. jam6242, I've been looking for a media report myself but so far have turned up nothing. We Love Soaps, SOD's website, etc., so far nothing. Not that I don't believe Ms. Coppola, but you know what I mean.
  15. I know much has been made of the Susan Lucci/Sarah Michelle Gellar feud over the years, but has SMG ever talked publicly about Frances Heflin and how it was like to work with her?
  16. LOL!!! I love that analogy.
  17. How long had JFP been at the helm before Bev McKinsey walked?
  18. Does anyone know why Peter Bergman left AMC for a time, leaving his grieving "widow" Nina to turn to Matt Connolly for comfort?
  19. It was a truly sad episode - the paralysis of one member, the death of Tony Thompson, and now the recent arrest of yet another member in the stabbing (who was interviewed for the special prior to the tragedy). Major props to the surviving members who are soldiering on.
  20. I didn't see the news mentioned here, so I'll post congrats to Kate Mulgrew for her recent Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Orange is the New Black.
  21. Actually, I stand corrected. Tonight's new episode was Hi-Five. I think The Emotions are next week, if I'm not mistaken.
