  1. Carl, do you happen to have in your collection any articles/interviews with Gerald Gordon when he was on GH? Much thanks in advance!!
  2. It's also sad when you think that a soap today wouldn't cast someone like Gerald Gordon, who was certainly handsome but in no way a pretty boy. He was an actor and not a model. Plus, I like the fact that Nick is a character who has a lot of flaws (namely, his temper) but is really a big marshmallow underneath it all. He's allowed to be grumpy and to some degree, a loner.
  3. Love Tovah Feldshuh!! She had some great moments on L&O with Michael Moriarty as well back in the day.
  4. Thank you, Gray Bunny, for filling in the blanks about the secret room. At least that set wasn't forgotten about after Marlena escaped!!! Speaking of Dr. Rolf, once I was watching a Sister, Sister rerun and the man who played the principal looked so familiar to me but I couldn't place him. Then I realized it was Will Utay, sans the accent he used to play Dr. Rolf. Too funny. LOL
  5. Just from the descriptions of the character of Jennifer, it's no wonder Morgan Fairchild became a star.
  6. Thanks for the clarification. I've seen a few pictures of her from her time on TD sans the wig. With Liz Hubbard and Bethel Leslie (and then Lydia Bruce), I guess the producer felt they didn't need another blond, thus the brunette wig. I love how they've taken us through every step of Althea and Nick's courtship and now engagement since they reunited earlier in 1968 - casual dinners just as friends, then dinner dates, then their first kiss in months, a camping trip with Penny (that turned out to be a disaster, but hey), the exchange of "I love yous", discussion of marriage, Nick confiding in Matt that he was going to propose to Althea, the actual proposal, her acceptance, breaking the news to Penny and their friends, meeting with the minister, the presentation of the engagement ring, and next up is Althea's surprise bridal shower. We should be seeing the actual wedding sometime next week. They've taken us on the whole ride with them. I know it's been said here before and I'll say it again - if soaps today gave each character and story the same kind of TLC Lakin/Edelstein/Potter gave, maybe the genre wouldn't be in the freefall it's in today.
  7. Does anyone remember Laryssa Lauret's 1977 (?) stint as Simone Kincaid? I'm curious about it by watching her on the reruns of The Doctors on Retro TV.
  8. Thank you, saynotoursoap. On the subject of Laryssa Lauret/Karen, I found a cast list in one of the old magazines from a year later than that and her name was included. The year after that, she joined GL sans the brunette wig, wearing her own lovely long blond hair.
  9. They sure had a mishmash of characters come and go the first half of 1985 - Lady Peale, Jackie and Larry Parks, Maggie Gillis and her husband...I think the only character that came aboard at that time who caught on was Julia. I wasn't sorry to see Lady Peale vanish without a trace. She was annoying, clingy and her whining was like nails on a chalkboard. Nonetheless, it was Lady Peale who finally set Amy straight about Brick's feelings for her and I can't wait to see that episode in its entirety. We're getting closer, I see!!
  10. I was also impressed with how well the fight scenes between he and Robin Wright were choreographed, and her escape and blowing up the car were extremely well-done. Kudos to all involved with those scenes.
  11. Who did the music for the show post-Robert Cobert? I can't find any information about that.
  12. Stephen Meadows made Peter Flint into one of the sickest, most twisted villains in SB's run (and there were quite a few!) - but despite all the horrible things he did, he still had a shred of humanity in him to the end. He really did love Kelly. Losing her literally made him lose his mind. I think Mr. Meadows did an excellent job making that come through to the audience.
  13. Thank you, John. Loved the Rose Alaio interview, safe - she looks wonderful!!
  14. True story - years ago I bought Gary Morris' Greatest Hits II CD just for the full-length version of the AW theme. Thankfully, after listening to the other nine songs on the CD, I ended up liking most of them, too. I never did care for that last opening sequence - especially after people had left and the edits were so awkward.
  15. Ahhh, Kristen, Susan and the multitude of other Eileen Davidson characters that would show up. LOL Something my sister and I found very amusing was that after Marlena escaped that panic room built in the wine cellar of the DiMera mansion, it was still used for other purposes. I forget exactly what, but it had something to do with Dr. Rolf trying to find a cure for Peter's "jungle madness". It was so ludicrous!!! LOL
  16. Did this show have one of the best theme songs ever, or what? That saxophone over that moody, slightly creepy music? Perfect!!
  17. I think he could do a LOT better than Carisi, but that's just my opinion. LOL
  18. Thank you, SBNBC!!!
  19. I'm sort of dreading what the show will be like post-Lakin/Edelstein. What we've seen so far seems to be an anti-soap, and for the most part free of melodrama and clichés. I'm afraid that will all change.
  20. You're welcome, Susan! Here's another interesting interview I read, this one from 1973 and profiling David O'Brien. Here's something I'll bet you all didn't know - I sure didn't - that NBC reported at one point that he was getting more fan mail than the face of the network himself - Johnny Carson!!!! http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1955&dat=19731102&id=t40hAAAAIBAJ&sjid=pJkFAAAAIBAJ&pg=3371,976762
  21. EON always seemed to have a fairly small cast, even for a half-hour show. Of course, with the murder element in there, a lot of people were going to be filtered in and out. How many core characters were there by the ABC era? 10-15?
  22. Do any of you think Chris Meloni would ever come back in a guest capacity at this point (probably too late to do it this season), or has that ship already sailed?
  23. I found this funny blurb in a 1974 article. In it, a model (and later writer) named Nancy McCormick relates the first time her family "met" her future husband, Gerald Gordon, by having them sit and watch an episode of TD. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=950&dat=19740615&id=68JaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=LVgDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6958,4595001 By the way, the two were together until Mr. Gordon's passing in 2001.
  24. No matter what, I don't think the show could survive without Hargitay/Benson. For better or worse, she IS SVU.
  25. Penny was ahead of her time! She would have fit right in on those Bridezilla shows. LOL
