  1. Article on Tennessee pulling out of the suit, but still makes the point. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-tennessee-daca-lawsuit-20170901-story.html The people who are this vehement about immigration don't care. There really are a large number of people who are very ridged about "the law is the law". I've talked to some and it's like hitting your head against a brick wall.
  2. ^ They are ending DACA. It seems like this wasn't entirely random though. Several states were suing saying that the initial executive order was unconstitutional and the deadline was today. Let me see if I can find an article.
  3. This is interesting. Looks like they might have the votes to pass DACA if they can get it to the floor. I do think this is an issue some members of Congress changed their minds on over time. I think this is much like entitlements, hard to roll back once it's done. And if politicians are honest it hasn't hurt anyone. These kids were already here. They either have to work legally or illegally and what is gained by that? At the very least I hope it comes to the a vote so there is a record. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/congress-probably-has-the-votes-to-make-daca-law-will-it/
  4. So he did rescind DACA. Perhaps I'm a crazy optimist, but maybe this will work out in the end with Congress enacting legislation.
  5. I do think it may go that way. I think many of the Republicans realize it would be a mistake to take papers away from 800,000 young people. We need more people in that age range not fewer.
  6. So looks like he really is ending DACA. Maybe we can hope Congress will do something to stop it in time. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/03/trump-dreamers-immigration-daca-immigrants-242301
  7. Or worse. She seems to be passively supporting what's happening to them. I read she said that "ethnic cleansing" was too strong a term to use. I didn't see her condemn what is happening or urge the military to stop trying to drive them out and kill them. There was a time I would have though maybe we can take them, but we all know that's not happening in 2017. Our government is up to it's own f*ckery.
  8. So many terrible things are happening in our country sometimes I want to shut out the rest of the world, but what is happening to the Rohingya is truly awful. http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/aljazeeraworld/2017/07/rohingya-silent-abuse-170730120336898.html
  9. Seems like if he were going to stop DACA he would have done it today, so perhaps that's some good news to come.
  10. Yes. Also, I'm not in the public spotlight. If I were the pressure to be perfect might overcome my immense squeamishness. At the risk of TMI I'm sure my life would be much better if I got a breast reduction, but there is just no way I would dare. This is some good news. I really thought the Republicans would manage to repeal it, but it looks like the conventional wisdom about rolling back entitlements held true thank goodness.
  11. OK, this is really trivial, but I cannot imagine the courage it takes to get that done. My God. Not in a hundred years would I dare. I pass no judgement on the right or wrong of it, I'm just saying I could not and would not.
  12. I hoped he wouldn't, but I'm not surprised. I'm getting used to how downright mean these people are.
  13. Sure, they could kill people. My point is the clever nature of the first seasons is gone and I don't believe its coming back.
  14. They can't though because GRRM hasn't written it. It's clear that D&D do not have the kind of talent it takes to write GoT. I won't argue about visuals. They gave everything anyone could have hoped for with the creature effects alone. The problem is the writing. Episode 6 was drivel. I used to fanwank that we were in a parallel universe. Unfortunately, the inhabitants of that universe lost 50 IQ points to a person. Do I blame D&D? A little. HBO said it would produce as many seasons as they would write, so I think they should have used more of George's elements and made more seasons, so he could catch up. They also could have bigger delays between seasons. I suspect they were hot to make that Civil War drama they are going to doing instead. Good luck with that guys really. At the same time expecting anyone to finish this as well as GRRM is unrealistic. He obviously gave them the plot points, but they are struggling to find clever ways to get there. Just as he is struggling to bring his series to a close. I figure it will take him 10 more years. Episode 6 was terrible Linda of Linda and Elio who is associated with George called them arrogant idiots and tore the episode completely apart. She's not wrong. That caper to bring back a white walker was nonsense, utter nonsense. They obliviously wrote backward from the plot point of needing an ice dragon to be created. Why for the love of God not have John go up there to save Bran? If Bran really had to get to Winterfell first make it for BenJen. Anything, but the fool's errand of bringing a white walker to Cersi. So, unforgivably stupid. This show has been a phenomenal hit, so I figure HBO will reboot it the second GRRM finishes. D&D left so many elements out that it could be a completely different show in better hands and with final seasons that make sense.
  15. ^ Was it given in the end? I don't remember how it panned out. Part of me thinks they should be paid in dust and part of me thinks that would only hurt the people on the ground. I will say they have some damn nerve though.
  16. Every day feels like a new low for both that man and our country. Looks like more than one woman lost her baby because of the atmosphere he created. http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/arpaios-jail-staff-cost-ambrett-spencer-her-baby-and-shes-not-the-only-one-6433038
  17. I'm running out of words to expresses how awful this man is. A pat on the head to a dangerous racist coming from the highest office in the land. Dark days.
  18. So I see 45 went ahead and signed an order barring trans troops. Shameful and embarrassing.
  19. ^ Speaking of refugees seems like the ban should be over soon. I haven't heard much about it recently.
  20. A half million people have been infected with Cholera in a 3 month period. I wonder how many Americans even know our country is involved in this nightmare? One of the worst parts of Trump's circus is it distracts people from these types of stories. Reporters are tripping all over themselves to cover 45's latest tweets instead. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/25/opinion/the-slaughter-of-children-in-yemen.html
  21. Wow. That is just insane.
  22. Those are the people I understand trying to hold out to protect their agencies. I guess Charlottesville was a breaking point for some people.
  23. This clusterf*ck of an administration gets more surreal by the day. At this point, I don't quite get the people resigning in outrage. He's been awful from the start. Are they just figuring it out? Why did they take the job? I can see people who are there to do what little they can to protect the nation from Trump, but otherwise, what took you so long?
  24. Well hopefully it was a scientific sampling and 10% is their upper limit, although that's still a disturbing number.
  25. ^ We've really made a huge mess in the Middle East. I wonder if we'll completely get out of it in my lifetime.
