  1. This is a really good Vox article about the problems Trump has exposed in our democracy. I think they really nailed it. http://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2016/11/7/13532178/donald-trump-american-democracy-weakness A narrow Trump loss is another way of saying a near Trump win. A 3-point victory for Clinton implies that if Trump were merely a bit more self-disciplined, if he had not bragged about sexual assault while wearing a microphone, if his opponent’s pneumonia had lingered a bit longer, America would be ruled by a cruel narcissist with authoritarian ambitions. It will mean that if unemployment were a few percentage points higher, if the man who murdered two police officers last week had been brown rather than white, if Trump’s odd-bedfellows alliance of Russian hackers and angry FBI agents had been a bit more effective, Trump would have won. Perhaps, on Tuesday, we will dodge the bullet. But we will still need to understand how we came to be standing in front of a gun.
  2. Ana Navarro voted for Hillary! http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/07/opinions/navarro-republican-voting-for-clinton/index.html
  3. ^ It's only going to get worse when trucking jobs are lost to automation. There have been some recent articles about that. I keep hearing people say that our roads and bridges are in desperate need of upgrading, which would help business, but there's some reason Republicans keep blocking it. I can't even remember why now. Retraining people sounds good to me, but I'll admit I don't think it's practical. I think most of us here believe she is going to have a hell of a time getting anything done. If in the next four years she can pass some fixes to the ACA, get her SC nomination passed and get one piece of major legislation that is her own passed, I'll be thrilled. Oh, and help block the worst of what the GOP has to offer, of course. Looks like funding was the reason. http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/2015/03/25/478B-Infrastructure-Bill-Blocked-Senate-GOP
  4. The ironic thing is HRC is likely to do more for this group than DT ever would have. No one can bring back manufacturing jobs, but at the very least she'll try to expand the social safety net. I imagine she'll try to get an infrastructure bill passed that would employ some working class people too.
  5. That's wonderful news, especially given all the attempts to suppress the vote and the long lines people have to wait in. I really want to see all the groups Trump insulted show up at the polls to hand him his ass. I've never felt more personal animosity towards a candidate in my life.
  6. I kept hoping Negan would use water torture on Daryl.
  7. ^ Wow. Meanwhile Trump was going on about how awful President Obama was to his protester, when nothing could have been further from the truth. I feel like I'm living in bizarro world, but it's almost over thank the gods.
  8. Seeing people having to wait in line two hours, four hours to vote is so wrong. This election has really underlined how much systematic unfairness and discrimination is still allowed to go on.
  9. ^ I'm with you in rarely thinking this show is torture porn. The only other time that it seemed that way was when three people were bled out at Terminus with Glen, Rick and Bob next on the block. Also, I only felt that way when I watched that episode the second time. What bothered me more than the actual gore was watching all these terrified people down on their knees crying waiting to be bashed over the head or see it happen to someone they loved. Part of it is having watched these people for years. I actually muted the TV and stopped watching after Michonne tried to intercede for Carl. I just couldn't watch Rick cut Carl's hand off, so it took me a few mins to realize that didn't happen. I was glad Maggie wants revenge.
  10. Watching the commentator on CNN going on and on about how "emotional" HRC is right now. So sexist, I just can't.
  11. Yeah, that Guiliani interview on CNN was downright embarrassing. I'm not a big Wolf Blitzer fan these days, but he was on it. Guiliani looked like a liar (and/or senile).
  12. Dear God.
  13. There we agree. As a private citizen I'll admit if David Duke were shot in front of me, I wouldn't call 911. I wouldn't shed a tear if every white supremacist in this country died tomorrow. That's not the issue. The issue is who is next on the list to deserve a bullet in the minds of the Trump family? We know DT thinks women who have had an abortion deserve to be punished, do they deserve a bullet? He implied Hillary deserves a bullet already. No good comes from this talk by public figures, imo. It's better than the alternative, that's for sure.
  14. ^ But we can't start advocating people's death because of what they think. That tends to work out badly for any society that tries it. It wouldn't matter if this were just one of us on the board, but this is someone close to power (or potential power). I though it was pretty disturbing.
  15. This nightmare can't be over soon enough. The scary part to me is that the white supremacists and their ilk have been emboldened and our society has shown itself vulnerable to the whole "stong man" conceit. We can hope this moment in history will pass with Trump's defeat, but I'm skeptical.
  16. Sure, but Trump has been called out for hanging out with Roger Ailes. The press can't make the people who don't care start caring about this stuff. No doubt Trump has gotten away with a lot, but that's on his followers because a lot of the credible problems he has are out there for all to see.
  17. Of course she should be heard, but some of the reporters who are looking into it aren't even sure she exists. I also think this blurb is exactly right. But the Clinton campaign hasn’t touched Johnson’s allegation, and with good reason. It’s true that the allegation is explosive, and could make voters see Trump’s many disturbing comments about young girls over the years in a new light. But it’s also very dubious and uncertain. And there’s no real need to promote a case as sketchy and risky as that one when a dozen women have come forward with much more credible stories, using their own names and making themselves available to reporters for scrutiny.
  18. I figured that there must be problems with the story from the woman who claimed Trump raped her at 13. If not the press would have been all over it like white on rice. They certainly did not shy from the Access Hollywood story and this would have been a ratings grabber for sure. I'm not saying she's lying because I do think he's capable of it, but there are issues. http://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2016/11/3/13501364/trump-rape-13-year-old-lawsuit-katie-johnson-allegation
  19. I hope black people come out in force and I would feel that way even if they are voting Republican. The attempts to suppress and intimidate are so ugly and depressing.
  20. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/suppress-black-vote-trump-campaign-230616 Another story about the KKK's plans to suppress the black vote, although some of this is too bizarre. Can they be serious about going to the "ghetto" to hand out liquor and pot? I hope the police are their to send their asses to prison.
  21. I don't think we should believe that unless he actually wins. I'm at the point where I can't let myself believe that will happen. Are people really so desperate for a "strong man" leader that they will pick this complete incompetent? No, I don't think so, but I do think it will be close. I don't think that really says anything about Hillary as a candidate, it just tells us that we are still living in a very sexist society. I was reading an article recently about the strong correlation between men who resent women and Trump support. It was pretty eye opening, although not surprising.
  22. To actually spend your own money to try to ensure that the state kills people. I find it truly unbelievable. I'm pretty sympathetic to victims rights, but this is so wrong. I hope he fails. I also hope that he never manages to break out of Nebraska.
  23. Pete Ricketts spending his own money to get the death penalty reinstated in Nebraska. Looks like he has his eye on the national stage and a billionaire daddy to back him. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/10/ricketts-nebraska-death-penalty
  24. Where would we expel them to? No one is obligated to take our trash.
  25. Obama has deported a lot of criminals though. That fact tends to get lost in the shuffle. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/obamas-deportation-policy-numbers/story?id=41715661
