  1. It’s thoughtful and considerate, not to mention thorough that Playbill included Robert LuPone’s roles in daytime soaps. He was unforgettable as Leo Flynn on Guiding Light.
  2. The problem with having so many missing episodes is that it results in disjointed storytelling, really unfair to those who are seeing these stories for the first time. Someone who was far more attentive to the show during that time period can probably speak to Emily and Royce’s relationship but Emily liked Craig years before she and Royce met. She was concerned that he was still in love with his wife Sierra, who had gone missing and was presumed dead (surprise, in true soap opera fashion, she was still alive). Craig dumped her anyway, once he discovered that she had had an affair with Craig’s old nemesis Tonio Reyes, who had once briefly taken over Craig’s company through deception.
  3. Speaking of “trained” media who lean conservative, normally I avoid anything with Haberman’s name in the byline but found myself looking to see if there were any new insights in this article, brought to you, courtesy of the great Ms. Morgan Fairchild.
  4. Oh, I posted in the media thread about how the news division of every major network news broadcaster was crowing about their ratings. There was a momentary mention of Days Of Our Lives being “bumped” to streaming.
  5. He just might knock one of the other young American guys off that Tennis Channel “hype train” that you often complain about.😂 Who’ll it be?
  6. I think they were desperate for a story to sell, uh, tell. They could have just endlessly speculated, like they did with Comey and Clinton in 2016. They kept people hanging on for months on that one. I guess the media don’t want to risk tanking Trump’s chance to run again, the way they tanked Hillary’s campaign. One journalist even alluded to this. Because this would ruin their chance to shape the next election as a horse race that they can make a game out of, instead of something serious where lives can literally be at stake.
  7. Members of the media now expressing the pressure the DOJ was under to put something out there—they claim it was pressure from the people…no, it was pressure from the media. Now they get a heavily redacted document and they are disappointed because the ‘juicy bits’ have been redacted. Did they think the DOJ was going to compromise a whole investigation? Now the media itself is forced to admit that releasing such documents at this very early stage is not how things are usually done. Again, a situation that they, the media forced.
  8. That’s likely to be effective on social media as it seems to be getting immediate response, even amongst casual observers.
  9. Watched this livestream and it was interesting to hear from these different executives in broadcast news toot their own proverbial horns about how their various networks’ news programs and the recent inroads they have made in ratings share. The president of CBS News talked about the increasing popularity of that network’s morning news magazine show and how they cede the decision of when to interrupt regular daytime programming for breaking news to their affiliates to decide. There was brief mention Days Of Our Lives being “bumped” to streaming. Even PBS NewsHour talked about the impact of their decision to cover the counting of the electoral votes on January 6th 2021 and the insurrection that followed, despite the fact that PBS usually broadcasts children’s television during those time slots. It led to the decision to the expansion of breaking news coverage during the daytime. The general consensus seemed to be that News and sports has become far more popular and there seems to be a bigger embrace of broadcasting both during the daytime. I am not sure what their implications mean for daytime soaps, but I got the sense that the moving of Days Of Our Lives to Peacock is regarded as an afterthought, at least by the people in the news divisions.
  10. There is a Stephanie Williams Nelson who looks an awful lot like her on LinkedIn. I think this person has been running a nonprofit organization for a number of years, it seems.
  11. Also, to tie the higher amount of forgiveness to Pell grants, which was directly taken from VP Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, is a great idea which targets lower income borrowers, many Black borrowers who have loan packages under Pell grants. My financial aid package was a mix of scholarships, Pell grant and a loan as an undergraduate student who was considered a low-income student. I also can’t understand why people are squawking about this in a world of college admission bribery scandals, 1 Trillion dollars tax breaks laws for wealthy people and PPP loan forgiveness going to mega church televangelist and the Catholic Church. The issue of college (un)affordability still remains to be tackled. I haven’t read too much about that, but there was mention of Biden having proposals for that too. Congress should feel free to tackle this issue as many have expressed concern about not addressing the root causes of the student loan crisis, which is the alarming cost of higher education. Also, has MTG done anything in her capacity as a Congresswoman for anyone but herself?
  12. The downside is that since this was a special election to fill Delgado’s vacated seat, Pat Ryan will have to run again in a few months. Hopefully he repeats. Knowing that he will have to run again in a few months, they may be directing spending toward that campaign.
  13. NDTV and their multiple commentary boxes is a special kind of madness but this hostile takeover seems to carry its own special kind of perils. Media takeovers by the uber-wealthy and well-connected seems to continue unabated in all corners of the world.
  14. Thanks. I caught a glimpse of Whitney Osuigwe and Hailey Baptiste having a practice set. There was a time when the US Oen used to stream all matches until ESPN found out and swallowed streaming rights. Why can’t the US Open website be allowed to stream qualies? Is there an actual benefit to shoving qualies onto ESPN News, a channel that many people don’t have?
  15. Same. That stuff about KSJ is deeply disturbing but they are both gone now, so it’s probably not worth rehashing at this point.
  16. Apparently he deleted the tweet but the screenshot was tweeted elsewhere, and turned up very quickly in a basic search. Unfortunate. A few people are making mention of his complicated persona, using words that indicate that he something to the effect of, that he was publicly polarizing and privately compassionate. Hopefully the compassion was there. On a human level, it is sad still, the passing before his time when there was still a lot of potential evolution that could have taken place. One would hope that there would always be time for a person to evolve to be a better person, publicly as well as privately. R.I.P. to him and condolences to his loved ones.
  17. As someone who only really read the DC blog (for a brief time) and the WLS blog (until it ended) and didn’t follow his blogs and had only heard of him via this message board, it is still very sad to hear this news. EDT. Wow, did he really tweet those things about KSJ? Or was that a tweeter trolling? Just did a search and instantly regret it.
  18. This is chilling but not surprising, sadly. Ever since I saw a news report that stated a poll that supposedly showed that Democrats could very well hold onto Congress, I had been wondering what Republicans and their backers would try in response. Republicans have cast aside any veneer of wanting to be for the ordinary American that they used to claim interest in helping. Now it’s about barefaced greed and naked power grabs. The only way to counteract this is to have an effective strategy to get people to the polls and get them to vote for enough Democrats with integrity this November.
  19. Gone way too soon.
  20. How sad. The stylist who worked on Serena’s Vogue cover story passed away. Vogue was her last job.
  21. Wow, I really haven’t been keeping up with tennis because Garcia had fallen totally off my radar. This should give a number of players hope that they can make it back from a slump to win a title. Garcia is still wildly unpredictable though, so I have no idea how her win impacts her chances at The Open.
  22. Things are definitely not going so well in Twitter land. Twitter tells employees they might get only half their annual bonus
  23. Usually, I avoid all and anything Haberman and Thrush, but admittedly, this article piqued my curiosity…and the Japan Times article includes audio reading of the article, which allowed me to have my morning cup of tea at the same time which makes reading this article tolerable.
  24. Oh Elizabeth!! Tewson was a gem. So much of that comedy couldn’t have worked without her.
