  1. Twitter’s Community Notes feature sounds like it will be potentially clunky and slow to flag most misinformation in real time. https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/twitter-community-notes-go-global-to-collaboratively-add-context-to-tweets/
  2. It’s also about how a former tabloid editor can one day become PM. Harry seems to have a genuine hatred and fear of the tabloids in particular, from how he speaks of them. Although unfortunate, it wouldn’t be surprising if he pulled back from direct analysis as he seems to repeatedly accuse them of having a direct connection in his mother’s demise and continues to claim that he doesn’t want to lose another woman he loves to the same fate. Even before he met Meghan when he was wilding out, he gave the impression that he both loathed and feared the tabloids.
  3. Didn’t John Oliver do an entire episode about the British tabloid media, or was it someone else? I thought it was well known that the PR flank of TRF feeds informational tidbits to the press in exchange for flattering and/or less intrusive coverage. When someone no longer wants to ‘play the game’, it’s likely considered an affront, in breach of an informal contract and elicits an aggressive media response. Because of John Oliver I became aware that TRF hosts an annual event for media and invites the tabloids alongside media stalwarts like the BBC. That would be like the National Enquirer being invited to be part of the White House press pool or the WHCD, or even to follow the East Wing on a diplomatic tour.
  4. What an unfortunate thing to happen but I am glad you and Ms. Patti and everyone else is okay. Thinking about all the things that have happened in public spaces where people are gathered trying to simply enjoy themselves. Still it is sad that this is the reality of being gathered anywhere.Hopefully you will get to see her sometime soon in the future.
  5. Well, returning some of the stolen antiquities back to their countries of origin would be a good place to start. From the British Museum, to Buckingham Palace—they have the literal wealth that was looted from other lands stored in their buildings. Gold from Africa and India, antiquities and valuables from these continents plus Persia. And the money extracted from slavery is well documented in their financial ledgers— I have personally visited the British Museum, the Imperial Museum, Buckingham Palace and have seen this with my own eyes, while a student. The documentation of the wealth generated is online for anyone who cares to see. This isn’t a question of perception, these are cold hard facts, in literal black and white. The only reason why Buckingham Palace was ever opened up to the public at all (and some spaces are still closed to the public) is because TRF was forced to open their doors to the hoi polloi because they were no longer allowed to operate on the taxpayer dole. It’s not the White House, you have to pay a fee to gain entry. That money goes into the coffers of TRF, but that is for their tax burden, that is separate from inherited wealth. How do people think Charles acquired the money to purchase all that land for investment? If H&M don’t want to move on, then they are perfectly in line with the Brits. Seriously have you ever lived in England. I have never lived in a place so taken with the past. Only when it comes to their history of colonialism and enslavement do they ever speak of moving on. Otherwise, it is reliving past glories on a continual loop. I was constantly reminded of the glories of “The Blitz” and the rebuild after “The Blitz”, while conveniently forgetting that they used auxiliary forces from their colonies in the Caribbean, the Indian subcontinent and Africa. Everybody’s history seems to be selective, not just H&M.
  6. Reading your posts, I consider you to be a highly learned person. We’re all still learning, at least we should be. It’s not surprising that in the U.S. people wouldn’t know this, especially considering the curriculum that is most commonly taught. In the U.K. though, there is a lot of boasting about just how ahead England supposedly was in emancipating slaves in their colonies, while neglecting to tell the rest of the story. They fondly tell some of the story, they just don’t tell all of it, which is just as awful as not telling at all, as it is lies by omission.
  7. Ms. Patti looked as if she were going going to wrestle for that microphone until she understood why they wanted her to leave the stage. It must have been scary to realize why.
  8. I’m agnostic when it comes to most of these people, I just find it more than a little amusing that people feel so strongly about this. There are genuine things to be upset over going on right now, on both sides of the Atlantic (e.g. many people are unlikely to be able to heat their homes this winter) but this isn’t one of them. The RF serve no genuine purpose but it’s up to the Brits if they want to keep this carousel of bread and circuses (without the bread) going. It’s just high-key hilarious to see people in a snit over this couple. It’s a form of entertainment of its own making. I don’t watch daytime soaps anymore, so I take my entertainment where I can get it.😂
  9. The docuseries and book will be entertaining for me. I am not invested either way and I don’t understand why people are getting their knickers in a twist over this couple. They want to tell their story, so what? 🤷🏾‍♀️ Could be worse. They’re not out here hiring underage girls for sex work, or going to former colonies expecting to be carried around on a palanquin or sedan chair. I was surprised at the number of people who did not know that England compensated slaveowners for the loss of their slaves, while giving the former slaves absolutely nothing and that British taxpayers, including some of the descendants from the colonies where England once held slaves, were are all paying those descendants of slave owners until 2015. I found that out years ago and I was livid. I actually looked up my family surnames in the leger, which had been digitized (yes, several institutions in England kept notes) and found the names were in there. I still am livid even at the thought of this. This is something to be genuinely upset about and I am glad more people now know about this shame era in history. If this awareness had to come through a gauzy docuseries, so be it, nobody’s forcing folks to watch.
  10. This is disturbing. Why no well-funded civilian core? Even before reading this article, I already knew what the ethnicities and colors of the kids would be. Thousands of Teens Are Being Pushed Into Military’s Junior R.O.T.C.
  11. Wait til Harry’s book debuts next month. Folks will truly get their knickers in a twist. I cannot wait. 😂
  12. It greeted me the moment I arrived at Heathrow Airport for the first time and was being processed via immigration. It matters little what your status or station in life either. One my professors talked of being on the receiving end of veiled and sarcastic remarks when she revealed that she was a professor of English literature, because she’s Indian. I have family members who used to work for NHS and boy do they have stories! But what can you say of a country that brags about emancipating slaves while neglecting to admit (until recently) that they compensated the slave owners (but not the formerly enslaved) with taxpayer money until 2015.
  13. People are pretending as if Bout was given a life sentence and walked Scott-free. He was due to be released in five and a half years. Also, people have conveniently forgotten about Trevor Reed’s release via prisoner exchange.
  14. Apparently, Bout had been scheduled for release in 2029, he wasn’t given the maximum sentence due to a lack of evidence. As much as I despise Tulsi Gabbard, at least she had the one iota of awareness that her political capital as a ‘public servant’ had waned and sought to exit. She’ll end up going the way of Sarah Palin, as a novelty for Fox News Channel for however long they choose to tolerate her and she’s got about as much political influence as Sinema these days.
  15. Hopefully House Democrats are acting with some sense of urgency. I feel as if I hear more about what Democrats in the Senate want to achieve but not the House Democrats, which could be a function of a lack of thorough reporting of what’s happening on Capitol Hill. DACA seems to only get mentioned when someone makes a threat to take it away.
  16. You weren’t the only one who thought this could happen. Just more of her trying to squeeze what little leverage she might muster. JMO but I doubt it will go the way she wants or expects. She doesn’t have the experience or ‘miles under her belt’ of a Joe Lieberman and I haven’t seen what allies she has managed to scrounge up. She didn’t even begin her Senate career with much goodwill. We’ll see how this goes.
  17. Netflix won’t give a damn about the people who are trying to give the docuseries low ratings on IMDB, lol. They got people to watch, the moment the episodes were posted, BBC World News declared it “Breaking News” and it’s got well over a quarter of a million tweets. Netflix must be over the moon. Almost none of this information came as a surprise, except for the scenes about Meghan’s niece. The same Royal Family who had weathered Charles’ tampon talk with Camilla couldn’t let the niece set in the back pew of the cathedral watch the wedding ceremony, so scandal averse were they? Push-lease.🙄 But the fact that they have a tight bond while neither has a relationship with Samantha says so much and it was an unexpected piece. That segment about Stephen Lawrence still makes me deeply emotional as I remember that time very clearly and had a classmate who experienced a harrowing encounter with some racist guys when we were in London the year after the Lawrence murder. The murder and the aftermath was like an open wound in the Black community and is still deeply triggering to me and others, I am sure. I do believe that Meghan didn’t experience racism before she got into that family because of her color and her mother admitted not preparing her for how the world might “see her”. Both Halle Berry, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris said that their mothers gave the, that talk, that the world would see them as Black women and treat them as such. I guess being born in a different era, Ms. Ragland perhaps assumed that things would be different. Not so much. JMO, but Harry wanted out of the family business and he found someone who he was both attracted to and felt would be able to endure what follow once he made a run for it. That’s all I’m going to say about that, lol. ‘The Royal Family couldn’t really even prepare Diana for what she would face, so how were they going to prepare Meghan, an American woman of mixed ethnicity?
  18. Unlike the announcement of the episodes being released of Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docuseries, this is genuinely Breaking News: In a one for one prisoner swap, Brittney Griner is being released in exchange for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
  19. If you have ever lived in NYC, you know that rats are a serious problem. People have higher expectations for their mayor than they would any garden variety quality of life in the city advocate, especially when their mayor is so gung-ho about ‘cleaning up the streets and subways’. Well, as someone who has personally seen rats surfing the subway system and exiting the stations as if they are regular paying straphangers, it is a big problem. When I lived there, the Manhattan borough President had been fined $100 because the lid of a coffee cup had been found on her front lawn. 1 single lid. If she was fined , Adams should face a bigger fine for housing rats, especially when his administration clearly hasn’t found enough housing for New Yorkers in need of housing.
  20. BBC World News chose to open their broadcast not with the story of the far-right group that were planning to storm the German Parliament but…wait for it…Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docustory series?? Huh? The Brits need to get their media sorted because their obsession is pulling their priorities out of whack. I am feeling a shade of secondhand embarrassment for them.
  21. ^^Unfortunately, it seems like the January 6th insurrection inspired this plot. At least German authorities made arrests before the coup plotters were able to storm the German parliament building.
  22. There has been a lot going on in Peru these days, to put it mildly.
